This seems to attract smokers, and I think there's a hookah going on sometimes too. The interior restaurant may suffer from this, however. As a rather self-righteous ex-smoker, this would drive me mad on any potential repeat visits, but I think there's interior courtyard seating too out the back, so maybe that would be an escape. Then again, maybe it would just be more smoking section... The service is pleasant and friendly, the waitress was happy to offer us explanations of their traditional Lebanese dishes and made some introductory suggestions, which I never mind at a new restaurant or new cuisine. I have had food like this before under other labels but the Lebanese spin seems to be unique added spices and ingredients, like pomegranate seeds in the side salad, and a distinctive pita-like bread with thinner texture but equally delicious and perfect for dipping. The kebabs were tender and the side dips were garlicky and yummy. All in all a cute new place which I recommend trying, especially since there's not many restaurants with similar Middle-eastern cuisine in the immediate vicinity.

A per usual we order more food then we needed but it was all so good. The hummus and chicken skewers were to die for! The food came out in a good flow and the table was cleared promptly, the staff were friendly. Although they are fully licensed 4 stars for not having a cocktail menu and when ordering getting a "oh that's complicated" laugh from staff. Biggest tip call in before showing up and order small first, food comes out quick so don't worry.

After passing by several choices, we were both happy we made the choice to stop in. While the outside area is hookah oriented, the indoor seating is vibrant and comfortable for a full and proper meal. We stopped in around 8 pm and proceeded to order a mix of items. To begin, we had the three dips (baba, hummus, roasted red pepper hummus) which was the perfect starter given how hungry we both were. Additionally, the V mango mojitos were the right balance and quenches our long walk induced thirst. The fried kibbeh were next, piping hot and delicious. For the entree portion, we shared the large and plentiful lamb shank tagine (broth was solid and the lamb shank was melt in your mouth good) and the chicken shish kebab (the sauce and marination was exceptional). Both were presented very nicely. The chicken was exceptional and the tagine was very flavorful. We ended the night wuite appropriately with some nice, piping hot tea. Overall, the meal was a very memorable part of my Sydney trip - definitely recommend the food, ambiance, and the smooth dinner experience.

They were so enticing, baba ganoush and all, you couldn't stop eating the addictive food! I also really enjoyed the mains, and loved how the meat was brought out on a skewer - it looked a little badass, like a sword skewering the prey! Overall, great place to eat, although the service isn't very polite, and have a tendency to be a little impatient!

We got the least expensive banquet menu at $55/head. We were given: -Olives -Labne Balls with thyme -Hommus (could have used some more garlic) -Mushrooms with goats curd (amazing!) -Cauliflower and pomegranate salad (who knew cauliflower could taste nice, let along as delectable as this!) -Lamb Dumplings in labne (different but good!) -Baked sausages and eggs (meh) -Carob glazed beef cheek (weird sounding, but HOLY CR&P- has to be one of the best things I've ever tasted.) The dishes came very quickly together- they could have been 5 minutes of so further apart, but then the LAST dish, came about 25 minutes after the rest- which was irritating given that we had a table booked elsewhere for after. Staff were great. We had HEAPS of food intolerances at our table (lactose, gluten, onion, fructose), and they were careful to check what was an intolerance and what was an allergy and providing alternative dishes to those with problems. Will go back again, and most likely for one of the banquet options...

Their wine list was good. Food was good too - definitely on the more pricey side? Mains were all 32-36. This would've been a stellar 4 stars but for a packed venue, they were really sparse on staff. 2 guys and 1 girl, and one of the guys was the bartender so service was really behind! I usually wouldn't think anything of it since it's Sydney, but adding an extra person wouldn't have killed them. Worth a trip if you're craving Lebanese food!

And now, success! I've gone and conquered (or been conquered) without having to make the trek to Newtown! Shenkin's Surry Hills branch opened without too much fanfare a few months ago - good, everyone else can stay away and let it be miiiiine!! It took me almost half of my lunch break to decide on what to eat - everything sounds incredible - but my lovely bearded waiter provided great guidance, asking me how hungry I was (apparently the wraps are HUGE), what flavours I liked and even how messy I wanted to get! I ended up with the Shenkin Stack with an extra egg - a perfect mix of Israeli and standard cafe fare with labanne, za'atar, smoked salmon, tomato, bocconcini and basil on a slice of sourdough. Perfect amount and stacks (stacks!) of flavour. Shenkin has great coffee, friendly and helpful but not overbearing staff, delicious Israeli food and pumpin' 90s tunes. What more could a twenty-something, globetrotting foodie want!

I've never visited the country, nor am I familiar with its cuisine. The menu at Cafe Shenkin doesn't just have a twist of what's different, or is 'influenced' by a cuisine. It's authentic, and it means that there's a lot on the menu that I simply don't recognise. I'm making my way through though... Shakshuka, Ziva, Sabih, Angelita. And each one I've tried is delicious. Usually with a flaky and tasty pastry, and some nice sauce, and either vegetables or meat. I went for lunch this time with a vegetarian and unlike many restaurants, he didn't have to search for what he could eat; at least half of the menu was vegetarian. Weirdly, we both decided independently to get the same thing: a bureka with potato, onion and mushroom. As you can see above, it was dee-licious. Add to this good coffee and very friendly service, and I'm glad Cafe Shenkin has opened a branch in Surry Hills of its mothership in Enmore.
