Ok, my personal opinion is that we should not be paying a bucket load for street food - no matter how exotic. So there is currently a new fab of making a place looking good in order to charge a lot of money, yet the food is always sub-pa. However, this is not that kind of place. Firstly, the outlay of this place simple and not fancy in the slightest. There is a kebab takeaway shop attached to it, so it easy not even think there is a restaurant here. But going through the kebab shop you can sit down and have access to some of the best Turkish food in Surry Hills. The food here is brilliant! Get the mixed grill - you won't regret it! The meat here is fantastic. But you can't go past their pide bread and all there amazing dips. Everything is a good portion, and you won't walk out hungry at all. If you come on a Saturday night, you can also experience some belly dancing and Turkish music - yes it is a bit cliched, but also a lot of fun. If you don't like audience participation, then maybe avoide this, but if you want to laugh and eat good food then come along. read more

I used to live around the corner from here and so have dined in a bunch of times and grabbed takeaway a bunch more. The best thing about this place is the dips. Oh, and the Turkish bread. It's a very close tie. The dips are ridiculously good. You can just drop in and buy them by the container, which I've done on a number of occasions for house parties and BBQs. The hommus, babaganoush and beetroot are all fantastic. (Heavy on garlic, but damn delicious.) The Turkish bread is also cooked to perfection. You can take one away for a couple of bucks and they'll wrap it up in butcher's paper for you. Grab one of these (they're huge), plus a few small dips and you're set for a picnic in the park. If you're dining in, treat yourself to a bunch of yum vego sides like stuffed vine leaves and falafels. There's also a huge selection of pides. Seriously huge. The flat kusbasili with diced leg of lamb, onion, tomato, capsicum, parsley and spices is brilliant, as is the folded potato with onion, spinach and cheese. I'd also recommend trying a few bits and pieces from the grilled menu (the mince kofte are good) and of course a few traditional desserts. (Hey, you need to try them out, right?!) Erciyes - the name of the restaurant comes from Mount Erciyes (tr. Erciyes Dağı), located 25 km south of Kayseri, Turkey. Erciyes is the highest mountain in central Anatolia (3916 metres), and has an extinct volcano located at its peak. Erciyes Turkish restaurant has been in Surry Hills for twenty seven years. Still owned by the family that run the Turkish takeaway shop selling mainly Mezze (dips), kebabs and pides - the restaurant entrance is inside the takeaway. A bit confusing I know - but the owners will show you the entrance. I went there years ago for a work dinner as the restaurant does a great banquet offer $40 or Banquet 2 with unlimited soft drink for $45. The banquet includes Mixed Dips, Garden Salad, Greek Salad, Meat and Vegetarian Pides, Iskender Kebab and a Mixed Grill. Fabulous value! I had to visit the restaurant again after reading all the reviews here which reminded me of how good the food is. I did as suggested ordered the selection of Mezze (Dips). Small size is ample here. It is served on a plate in an array of colours. Hummus, Baba Ghanoush, Beetroot, Spinach, Parsley, Carrot and Chilli. (This is served with freshly made Turkish bread ($16) Next I order the recommended Mixed Grill of a lamb cutlets, kofte, lamb and chicken Shish and garlic mushrooms. This is served with a fresh garden salad and Turkish rice ($38) After eating the dip and bread (which was very filling), the Mixed Grill was wonderful - but you probably could ask for some take away containers. I recommend that you dip you meat morsels into the remainder of your Mezze for added flavour. This is a great place to get together with a group of friends for great food and service If you come Friday or Saturday nights - get ready to be tantalised by the resident belly dancer who might even get you up for a dance! read more

The best thing about this restaurant is the dips. They are absouletly delicious, my favourite is beetroot dip. They are just so fresh and tasty. The turkish bread is great and well cooked too. I've been for dinner a few times and ordered the dip platter (a selection of about 6 of the dips and turkish bread) and a pide, which was very large, i was barely able to eat the whole thing. Have also ordered the mixed grill before which was a selection of well cooked meats, rice, a salad, mushrooms and more turkish bread - great if you still have dip left over! read more

Having a party and not sure of the appropriate venue? Consider Erciyes Restaurant in Surry Hills. It's affordable, great for groups, and provides a super fun atmosphere. This Turkish joint is BYO, but also offers a full bar if you'd rather "Buy"YO. I came with a group of 12 friends, and subsequently, 12 bottles of wine (Excessive? Nah!). We ordered a few starter platters of dips and endless toasted bread. With a rainbow of 8 different dips striped on a plate, it's definitely my favorite item on the menu ($16 small, $22 large). A great option is to order the banquet at $45 per head, which gives you a little bit (correction, a TON) of everything. The greatest thing about Erciyes on a weekend night is the belly dancing show. Have you ever wanted to see your friend's engineer boyfriend shimmy awkwardly with a half-naked lady? BINGO, here's your chance! This dancer has an eye for who would be most uncomfortable when forced to boogie. For the entertainment factor of everyone involved, I applaud her for this. read more

So this seems to be the central meeting point for my family, plus for some reason, Turkish people like Turkish food so instead of going out for Asian or Indian or something else exotic, we go for food we know and love. Figures! Anyway, this place has a take away side which is where you enter the establishment. Then you walk through to the dining area, which is arranged depending on the bookings. It can get a bit squishy, so expect to bump into your neighbours every now and then. The food is quite yummy - we haven't really had a bad feed here yet. From the dolma (stuffed capsicum) which is chilli yet amazing to the meat meat and meat dishes. The turkish tea wasn't really the nicest I've had, or even close to what we have at home, however it finished off the meal rather nicely. Keep in mind that these guys do have 2 belly dancers on on a Friday & Saturday night. The kids loved them and danced away like mad while we all jiggled in our seats to the music as we stuffed our faces full of more food. All in all, we ordered a few pides, a few shish dishes, dolma, and some salad which fed about 9 people easily with leftovers and it all came to about $200 for the night. Which between 7 adults was an easy feed of about $30 each! Winning. My only issue was that we had a hard time trying to flag down wait staff to order, or get a few other things as the night went along. One of the easiest fatty foods to get around Sydney is kebab. Especially around the club areas as Kings Cross, Oxford Street and George Street. But what if you feel like kebab when you're arent filthy drunk on a Saturday night? Luckily there is Ericyes, a Turkish restaurant on the border of Surry Hills and Redfern, where Cleveland Street meets Crown. The restaurant itself is massive and on a Friday or Saturday night it is normally filled with groups of people. The great thing about Ericyes is that you can get everything you would normally get from a kebab store plus heaps of delicious kinds of meat and dishes. Normally me and my girlfriend get the Doner Kebab and the Iskender kebab, this last one is a mix of lamb kebab, yoghurt sauce, spicy tomato sauce and pieces of bread. Delicious and easy to share. Thought I would try something different than my usual Asian favourites. Placed an order through the UberEats app. Went for the Stuffed Eggplant ($3.5), Doner Kebab Roll ($8), Large Mix Dips ($13), Kiymali ($13), Stuffed Capsicums ($3), Plain Turkish Bread ($3) and Sucuklu ($13). The Stuffed Eggplant and Capsicums were pretty average. The Doner Kebab was ok and the pides weren't bad but nothing in comparison to Saray. I wish Saray did delivery. As for the dips, the best was the Chilli and the Beetroot, would just go with those two next time. Ended up just eating the bread and dips mostly. It's not bad, but if you've tried Saray you would know what I'm talking about, just does not compare. Total $56.50. read more

Was really glad to see Erciyes is still around after being overseas for the last 4 years. I mean, how the hell does this place stay open with such cheap prices? $3 for a loaf of the most delicious Turkish bread that's the size of my leg (please don't try to eat my leg). All their dips look good, but I can never break away from just getting the hummus. So garlicky and creamy. Falafel wrap is good, but I think the falafel's are baked and not fried since they are so soft. However, at $6, it's hard to complain. Well, maybe it's not that hard, but you'll sound like a jerk. read more

ate here last night and wow the food was tasty. we had a small mixed dip plate with bread ($16) and then a mixed grill ($35) and a lamb shish ( $26). All the food was freshly made & the service was polite (although we had to ask for our drinks twice & the lamb shish got served to another table by accident so we had to wait for another one to be made.. so we didnt get to eat at the same time) mixed grill was very filling, couldnt eat the entire serving, especially after piggy out on the yummy dips all up $80 for 2 people food + 1 coke + 1 OJ definitely eat here again as long as i wasn't being budget conscious read more
