My first ever review lower than 3 stars in over a 100 reviews between here and yelp. I walked into the restaurant at 9:45 and asked if they were okay to seat and serve, I was told yes no problem so I responded great we will have a calamari and waters to start without even seeing the menu. Calamari came and I ordered a Margherita pizza and my friend ordered a specialty pizza (the PROSCUITTO E RUCOLA) which on an important note had fresh mozzarella.
Had calamari and it was great, crispy and fresh. The pizzas came and mine had no basil which was 1 of just 2 ingredients other than sauce. I asked for a server and asked if it is missing the basil and she told me that she would check. Couple minutes later a young chef comes out and just puts a cup of basil on the table and walks away, he says nothing. I shrug it off put some basil on my pizza and take a slice. When i pick it up the cheese falls off and the dough is absolutely soggy all the way to the crust. I turn it around see that it is completely white and raw underneath, ( my friends is crispy and has char marks and has the same mozzarella). I ask the server and tell her that it is soggy and raw and she responds by telling me thats just how pizza is when the mozzarella is fresh and I show her that the dough is just straight up raw and she says she will get the chef.
The same guy who came to put the basil on the table comes out and with a hostile tone asks me whats wrong i show him thats its raw and he says no its fine and maybe it was rushed because they are cleaning the back, HIS WORDS NOT MINE. And I ask if I can have another that is cooked and not soggy with the basil on top and he just says no and sarcastically tells me he will take the one I have and cook it more, even though it is now cold soggy and looks horrid. I say no thanks and tell him I would rather just have another, I have had 1 bite if this pizza at this point. He says no he will not and I said fair enough I just wont have it then its okay but I wouldnt pay for it. He asked me if I wanted to keep it sarcastically and I said no thats fine and he took it. And if that was it I wouldn't even write this review, if I have a bad experience its just that, it happens.
5 minutes later an older chef comes out who we find out is the younger ones father and very loudly he asks me if "im here looking for trouble". Everyone in the restaurant is now staring at him and I say no i was looking for pizza jokingly trying to diffuse his anger. I tell him my pizza was raw and didn't have basil on it. He accuses me of just being cheap and wanting free food, even though i ordered and appetizer without even seeing prices and didn't eat more than a single bite of my food. This was extremely offensive and I told him no and his pizza was just raw and I wouldn't eat it. He then claims that he has never had A SINGLE person in over 20 years say there was ANY problem with any of his pizzas. Which is just nonsense, as if he has never had a complaint while there is multiple 1 star reviews here. At this point I said that I would like to pay and they kept loudly saying nonsense to me about integrity and who knows what.
He called me a liar for saying his son said they were cleaning and rushed my pizza, and that I came in looking for trouble and to not pay. Weird how they would take my money if they think I was haggling them over some random 12$ pizza on the side of a street, but it is what it is I paid them and left. Owner needs to realize that maybe it is the restaurant and even his own son that might make a mistake (as it is normal to) and that it isn't some Michelin Star establishment which he is running and take responsibility instead of thinking everyone is out for trouble or is cheap maybe because they are "American". read more
