"TACO TUESDAY at a BURGER JOINT" When you think of Taco…read moreTuesday, you think of having a Taco at a Mexican Restaurant, and that's a good thing because Tacos at any Mexican Restaurant are always a good sign. Well, people, one does not have to go to a Mexican Restaurant to enjoy a Taco on Taco Tuesday. There is another place that offers Tacos, but not your ordinary Taco. It's their "Steak Tacos" that are for a limited time only. It's "Freddy's Steakburgers" (& Frozen Custard). I have been to Freddy's and enjoyed their Double Steakburger with Cheese, but my Lovely Wife has not. Taco Tuesday is the perfect day for that. Here is how it went when we arrived. Freddy's came to mind when I saw a Foodie Friend, Mike Bendiksen's video of his review of Freddy's Steakburger Tacos. Nicely done, Mike. Pulled in just past 5 pm, and lots of cars/trucks are here. Walked in, and no one was at the counter ordering, just us. Checked out the Menu board overhead and didn't see the Tacos. Noticed a sign on the counter promoting them, and they look pretty good. Nancy is ordering first, and she is going with their "Senior Cheeseburger" Combo. Single SmashSteakburger with Cheese, Mustard, Onion & Pickle. Comes with French Fries, which are Skinny Fries (and I love them), and a Small Drink. I enquired about the size of their Tacos. Aleanna, who is taking our order, stated they are about the size of his hand. Their Tacos are a Smashburger Taco made with a Steakburger Patty, with American Cheese on a Grilled Tortilla with Lettuce & Jalapeno Fry Sauce. I asked for a Double-Smashburger Taco, two of them. Aleanna said he didn't think they came that way, but will check. His boss came over and said that they only come one way, as a Single Smashburger. I then asked for Two Steakburger Tacos, both with extra Pepper Jack Cheese and Cheddar Cheese. He seemed confused about the extra Cheese, and replied back, with extra Pepper Jack Cheese. I then stated No, with extra Pepper Jack Cheese 'and' Cheddar Cheese. (let me explain, before we left the house, I checked on-line at this location, and there is an extra charge for the combo of Pepper Jack Cheese and Cheddar Cheese, and there are many add-ons to these Tacos for an extra charge). He wanted to know if this replaces the American Cheese, and I said, No, it's added-on. I then ordered a medium drink. Orders are in and paid for. We filled our drinks, a Diet Coke for my Wife and a Diet Dr Pepper for me. Located a table away from the crying baby (don't you just love it when this happens). Soon they called out our number and my Wife picked up the tray. Both of my Steakburger Tacos are filled to the top with lots of Lettuce, and the Tortilla is nicely grilled. Took my first bite, and this is a pretty good Taco. The second bite was better because their Jalapeno Fry Sauce was there, and it has a nice Spice kick. The Smashburger itself is seasoned very well, but it is very thin - and I mean "thin". It would seem that 10 of these patties would equal a quarter pound. Lots of Jalapeno Fry Sauce is hidden inside the lettuce, making this Thin Smashburger Taco heavy, and adding a lot of flavor - nicely done. I also did not receive any Cheddar Cheese on either Taco, just the Pepper Jack. They apparently did not know how to do that. Overall, this Single Smashburger-Steakburger Taco is good, but with the patty being so thin, they should call this one a "Newspaper Smashburger Taco". My Wife enjoyed her Senior Cheeseburger, and also stated that the Patty is thin, and okay in taste. Their 'Skinny Fries' are delicious, with a nice crunch. She picked up one of their dipping sauces for the fries, and it's one of the best dipping sauces you will find. Nice flavor that goes very well with these fries. I also added some to one of my Tacos, and it is gooooooood. Some time back, as stated earlier in this review, I ate here before, and their Double Steakburger patties were thicker then than they are now. Don't know if this is true with all of Freddy's locations, but it is at this one. This location also needs to retrain their employees, including the Shift Supervisors, or whatever they are called, as to what they sell here and how they are made. Both of our order-taking guys had to go check to see if they do this for what I ordered. Maybe this is why when we drive by Freddy's, there are hardly any cars/trucks here. Anyway, when you are out-and-about sometime, check out a Freddy's and get yourself a couple of those Tacos while they last. And if they can, double-up on the Smashburger-Steakburger meat. Hopefully, they will know how to prepare yours.

#1 This is about the Steak…read more Ambience was great. Service was great. Pretty much everything was great, even the White cheddar stuffed mushrooms and Caesar's salad. What wasn't great was the Ribeye. And I think it's time restaurants STOP over tenderizing the steaks. A true steak lover wants to be able to cut through their steak. And because you can't realistically needle the hell out of the edges of a steak, you get that false impression when it is first set down in front of you that this is going to be a great steak... Then the issues begin. Medium is warm pick...the only thing warm pink was that first cut a the edge. The rest (that I could get through) ran the gambit of medium rare to damn near blue. Strange because I also ordered the parm-crust, which meant it would be subject a little more time in heat to melt the parm... And I think its because of that needle tenderizer restaurants use. You destroy the muscle fibers so much that the heat is no longer transferring within the steak properly. And what does over tenderizing do? It turns what could have been a great steak...into...MUSH. You can't cut through it because the fibers have begun spaghettification, so there's singular muscle strands that are straining to hold the meat together. My brother got the 20oz, and ended up just picking the steak up with his hands and trying to gnaw the meat off the bone when the knife no longer worked. The only person that got away with a truly good meal was my father who had ordered the Chicken fried steak. Kinda hard to over tenderize cubed steak since its traditionally the toughest cut. So I got about 60% through my ribeye and just called it quits. It became a wasted effort...you know the kind...where if you took it to the end you'd have to go to McD's for a burger because you burned so many calories just trying to eat the "meal". Maybe this is something that needs to be taken up management, have the servers if they want steak or mush. Strange thing I had seen a Youtube documentary on this very same thing, but never thought the steak at Longhorn would be worse than the steak at Roadhouse, which was mentioned as over tenderizing. All I can say, is if they continue with this practice, I can NOT recommend Longhorn, ANYWHERE for even a Waffle House quality steak. At one point I was fearing I had been bitten by the Texas tick that gives you Alpha-gal syndrome because I was actually getting a little nauseous trying to eat my steak at how mushy it was. It was only holding shape by the will of the sear and the parm-crust.

We Love Rosa's Cafe, and it's Taco Tuesday. We arrived at our dinner hour and placed our order. My Wife is going with their "Taco Salad" with Shredded Chicken (not beef this time), Refried Beans, Grated Cheese and Fresh Tomatoes layered over Crisp Lettuce. Served inside a Crunchy, Deep-Fried Flour Tortilla Bowl. She topped this off with Ranch Dressing. I'm having their Taco Tuesday Special, "Three Taco Plate" ($6.65), with Corn Tortillas filled with Seasoned Picadillo Ground Beef, layered with Lettuce, Tomatoes and Shredded Cheese. Served alongside Mexican Rice, Refried or Black Beans, and Fresh Tortillas. There is also a Salsa Bar with at least 18 toppings to choose from. I chose Medium Red Salsa, Green Salsa, and Lemon & Lime Wedges. While Nancy grabbed our drinks, I filled up at the Salsa Bar. Added some Green & Red Salsa to my Tacos, and some juice from the Lime Wedges. Nancy enjoyed her Shredded Chicken Taco Salad with the Ranch Dressing. She said that the Chicken is better than the Beef. There is also a lot of flavor in that Taco Salad, and plenty of food. It's filled up to the top. My Crunchy Tacos are Crispyticious, also filled up to the top and overflowing. All the toppings inside add lots of flavor to these Very Crunchy Tacos. The Refried Beans and Mexican Rice are also very tasty. After I finished off all three Tacos, I filled one of the Flour Tortillas with what was left on my plate from drippings, and also from my Wife's Taco Salad, including some Shredded Chicken, which was Very Tenderlicious. This was more like a Burrito than a Taco because it's HUGE and Very Delicious. Couldn't eat any more due to the amount of food they provide for you - it's a lot. We did take the last Flour Tortilla home, and it's good for a couple of days, but it will be gone tomorrow. Melted Butter and Cinnamon will take care of that Tortilla. We always enjoy Rosa's Cafe no matter what day it is, but Taco Tuesday is something special, and we like special. Thank you, Baby, for wanting to go out for dinner - again. "TAKING MY BABY OUT"…read more Today is "National Hot Dog Day," and it falls on a Wednesday. Guess who has a Special on Wednesdays for Hot Dogs? Yep, it's "Wienerschnitzel". In fact, every Wednesday of every month (so far), they offer "4-Chili-Dogs-for-4-Bucks". That's where I am taking my Lovely Wife out for dinner, and it's my treat. I do that at times, and it's usually on a Wednesday. Anyway, our dinner time came around. I diced up some White Onions, and my Wife grabbed some Coke Zeros for us. Off we went, in the rain, to Wienerschnitzel. As always, there is a line, but it moves pretty fast. This place gets really busy every day, especially on Wednesdays. Placed our order, received our bag of Chili Dogs, and found a place to park. Unwrapped those Steamy-Hot-Chili-Dogs. Three for me and one for my Wife. (that's all she needs). Sprinkled on some diced White Onions on my three and began a feast of Chilidogliciousness. Love the taste, and the white onions add even more flavor to each Chili Dog. We enjoyed them all. All three were very warm until the last bite. Sometimes I bring shredded cheese to top off the Chili Dogs, but I found that only one topping is enough due to them being eaten in the car - and it does get a little messy. After all were gone, there was a little drooling. They are individually wrapped, and there is a little chili left on the paper, and I'm thinking I could lick that off. That's how good these Chili Dogs are. We are done, and both of us are very happy our tummy's are filled. Thank You, Wienerschnitzel, for always providing us with your Tastylicious Chili Dogs on Wednesday. Thank You Baby for all that you do and you do a lot. Love You Bunches & ChiliDogMunches. PS: Thursday, July 30, 2026, is "National Chili Dog Day" - mark your calendars and check out a Wienerschnitzel near you for any specials - and don't forget about their Every Wednesday Chili Dog Specials.

He LOVED his burger and quickly changed his opinion on this place from when he was here 30+ yrs ago. My dogs were good, nothing special or fantastic to write home about but now I can cross this place off my bucket list. They have a good variety of choices to pick from and the prices are reasonable. The drive thru service was friendly and fairly quick and the kitchen area looked clean from the drivers seat view. There is a small outside dining area should you choose to do so. Probably will come back but it's not on the high priority list.

Yesterday was my Wife's Birthday, and we went out to Celebrate…read more Joe, Nancy's son, came over for the celebrations. We all left for "The GRILL" and when we entered, the place was packed, but they did have a table available, and it was near the Kitchen. At most restaurants, you don't want to be near the Kitchen, but at The GRILL, it's a great place to sit because you are closer to all that Aroma that fills the air all over the entire restaurant, and you get to watch them grill those Steaks. Haylee came over to our table to say "Hello". She is one of the Bartenders here at this time, and informed us that our Server is Katie, who will be with us shortly. We informed her that it's Nancy's "80th" Birthday, and Haylee wished her a Happy Birthday. We also ordered our drinks, Jack-N-Cokes for Nancy and me; Joe is having a Miller Lite. Katie came over shortly, and we informed her that Haylee took our drink order. Soon our drinks arrived, and we toasted to the Birthday Girl. Happy Birthday Nancy. We then looked over the menu some more, trying to decide what we wanted. This is a hard decision because everything they prepare here is delicious, and one of the Best Presentations of Tastyliciousness in town. When Katie returned, we placed our orders. The Birthday Girl is going with, and there is no surprise here, their "Slow Roasted Pork Nachos"; Chipotle Sauce, diced Tomatoes, Cilantro, Black Beans, Cheddar Cheese over Fresh Chips with sliced Green Jalapenos on the side, all covering a load of Fresh, Crunchy Chips. Joe is having their "Baby Back Ribs", "Fall-Off-The-Bone-Ribs" with house-made BBQ Sauce, served with Creamy Coleslaw & Shoestring Potatoes. He also ordered a side Salad with House Dressing. I am going with one of my favorites - everywhere - a Burger. Not just any burger, but their "Texas Burger": Half Pound of Seasoned Fresh Ground Chuck, Shredded Cheddar Cheese, Canadian Bacon, Onions, jalapeños, and mustard with Mesquite Sauce. Served with Shoestring Potatoes (choice). Orders are in, and we ordered another round of drinks for us. The GRILL has the best Bartenders in the area, and their drinks go down smooooooth. Our drinks arrived just before the food did, and it's hard to decide what to enjoy next. Okay, it was kind of easy. When you are presented with a drink, you take a sip just to let the drink know you appreciate it being a good drink. The GRILL does an amazing job with their Presentation of food. Joe's Baby Back Ribs are glistening on his platter (yes, a platter, not a plate), waiting for him to indulge. They didn't have to wait very long, because he did just that. Those Ribs have a lot of bones across the platter, and he started at one end and went to the other end. He said it was delicious, or something like that, because when one drools, it's hard to come up with the words. Their Shoestring Potatoes are always good, and the Creamy Coleslaw has a nice crunch to it, along with tasty flavoring. My Wife, as always, enjoyed those Slow Roasted Pork Nachos. There is a lot of pulled pork in there, along with a lot of everything else. The Jalapeños are on the side, so you can add as much heat to each bite as you want. This dish is not only Tastylicious, but a very Colorful one at that. It's like Christmas in August. Nancy ate more of this than she normally does. I took a bite, and it is really good, and what a deal. Joe finished off the rest, and the plate is clean. I have had this Texas Burger a few times before, and it's a hard one to pass up each time we are here. This must be a full Half-Pound patty, because it's Thick & Big. Love the strong taste and the amount of Cheddar Cheese Strips on this Burger; it's not too much, but it's also not a little amount. The Jalapeños are also just the right amount of heat to complement every bite. The Canadian Bacon on a Texas Burger does not sound right, but it is the right touch. The flavor goes perfectly with the entire Burger. For me, this entire Texas Burger is the Best Burger in the area, and I have had many a burger all over. Love those Shoestring Potatoes. They have a nice Crunch all the way around and are salted Just-Right. I usually do not salt anything per Doctor's orders, but these I make an exception for. The Texas Burger does it for me every time I order it. Every one of us joined the Clean Plate Club for the night, and we all get a Gold Star. Haylee and Katie earned the "Dollar-Bow-Tie" Award for going 'above-n-beyond' the norm. Haylee made our drinks for the night, and Katie checked on us throughout our stay at just the right time. Service at The GRILL has always been tops, and it was that again.

I've never seen more than three customers inside at once, and one of them looked lost. Yet somehow this establishment continues to exist year after year, defying all known laws of economics. The lights are always on. The employees are always there. The fish is always being fried. For whom? No one knows. I've spent months investigating. I've driven by at different times of day. Weekdays. The dining area should be serviced hourly with regard to wiping down the tables and sweeping/mopping. Also checking and refilling the condiments hourly. And the soda fountain could do with a nightly scouring. So why the 1 1/2 stars. I suppose that in the past, this place was really bad: dirt on the register, potholes in the parking lot, mold growing in the soda fountain reservoir. This place is actually not as bad as that. San Angelo is a sleepy little town, and looks to be quite old. The downtown area has potholes, pavement has plenty of broken spots where there were once pretty tiles, and the buildings are just old. So with that knowledge, yes, there might have been potholes recently, but upon parking in the parking lot, we didn't notice any. I didn't go through the drive thru, so I cannot say there are none. Walking into the main dining area, there are crumbs on the tables, dusty shoe prints on the floor as well as crumbs, and the condiment tartar sauce was empty, however it was easily remedied when staff offered me a handful of tarter sauces. Garbage was not overflowing and I did not note any garbage on the floors either. Although a single napkin on the floor is not a "pile" of garbage as someone else had defined in their review. The staff were friendly and quite patient as I waffled between ordering different plates on the menu. My food came out promptly. The batter was warm and crispy, so obviously my food had not been sitting out all day, but not quite fresh from the fryer either. The food smelled and looked appetizing, just as I had remembered as a child growing up. The crispy bits of batter accompanying my fish was a sight for sore eyes. As usual, it was super greasy, it probably always has been, but the oil used was not old. Everything was cooked to par level. It isn't bad at all. Just bear in mind that this place is not fine dining. The tables and floor won't be immaculate, the condiments may go empty, but staff was pleasant and even came out to check on us a couple of times.
