This truck had already be restored and updated to a perfectly running 2020 5.3 engine. I only wanted a stage 2 cam with some simple bolt on's for a little more horsepower and convert the old style power steering and brakes to hydra boost for esthetics under the hood. My goal was to just gain a little more horsepower and improve the look. I did my research on cost of parts and average labor costs to better understand the budget for this and at worse case I would spend $15k, well after many weeks of them having the truck they finally completed what was supposed to take one week they charged me $28,000, yes you read that right $28,000 and to make a terrible experience worse the engine locked up after picking it up and driving 24 miles. so after I contacted them they picked up the truck to diagnose what happened and Yep they refused to honer the work or warranty in any way and charged me a towing fee of $225 and $1800 for pulling the engine. I requested a meeting with the owner Blake and he arrogantly refused to do anything and after reviewing the invoices in detail I have receipts on how they inflated the actual cost. So after many weeks of dealing with this nightmare and paying them $30,000 I towed the truck home without an engine!

The people working here are all very polite and nice (I spoke to Ricardo, Constanza and Luis) and they are all very pleasant and friendly. They kept their promise of repairing and not replacing the bumper although after opening the bumper they found out that replacing it would be a lot easier and more sensible than repair, but they kept their promise and repaired it. The end result just looked fabulous. It's certainly not a cheap place but their prices are a lot better than the dealership for the same or maybe even better quality of work. I have had one experience here and the experience was a five star one, and I will definitely go back if I am in the area and need a car service.

One week passes and I finally PM the owner. It turns out the owner was out of country on vacation. I wish Ricardo would have just said so. People don't know how to manage expectations. Luis was more cordial, told me that they don't really specialize in "old" cars and said they would charge like $1000+ to do it (which seemed ludicrous). Anyway, he referred me to Shine Mobile Auto that apparently details all of their vehicles. Unfortunately, I had mixed results with their detailer, which I'll cover in a separate post. At the end of the day, I wasn't terribly impressed with how they run their business and their referral didn't keep his promises, so I can't say that I had a positive experience.

I ended up having to leave my truck there over night since I had prior obligations, my appointment started at 8am but I wasn't told it wouldn't be finished until 4-5pm until 2hours into appointed time. When I arrived for the appointment I was told it would take an hour to an hour and a half and they were spot on. The only downside of the wait time was the designated space they have for waiting. A handful of chairs in the back of the front showroom. A TV or a water cooler/coffee maker would substantially upgrade the comfort level, but alas they are new as assumed by the "now open" flags flying outside, so they get a pass for that. All in all I highly recommend VIP for hitch install over UHaul who said it would take a couple of weeks.

I really appreciate that they gave me different options on ways to save money on parts (OEM vs aftermarket) for my repair since I was a cash paying customer. I got a quote from Caliber Collision and the price difference was shocking! As it turns out Milstead is a much better equipped body shop because they had the technicians and equipment on hand and did not need to hire anyone out to do recalibrations for the sensors on my bumper which that alone saved me $400-600. To top it off they offered a courtesy car wash and interior vacuum which I wasn't at all expecting. Thank you Milstead for going totally out of your way to serve your customer.
