What a fabulous final supper in Bristol. We'd had a significant Sunday roast mid-afternoon and…read morewondered if we could muster another meal before turning in. This place was able to seat our party of 6 at 8:30pm with no issues (including 2 small children). The dishes were each toothsome and well-seasoned - callouts included the lamb Jalfrezi and chicken Cheemeen Mappas from Kerala. Get the Pani Puri and have the server apply the first couple mint and tamarind waters to get the order of operations just right. The Cobra and Malabar IPA were both refreshing, chilled beers, and if you come early enough for some masala chai then take advantage. We all left well nourished, tired, and delighted! Great meal in Bristol's old city.

We visited on a weekday evening and took advantage of an offer which allowed for 5 street food dishes. Each of the dishes on offer sounded fantastic so we decided to choose two and ask our waiter to select three other dishes. Alongside this we also ordered a standard curry dish and some rice (a feast of a meal for two!). The food arrived quickly and was presented perfectly, the waiter explained what each of the dishes were. Every single dish was amazing; complex and deliciously flavoursome. Of particular note was the Gobi Manchurian which is crispy cauliflower coated in a soya garlic sauce, one of our surprise dishes and not something we'd have probably ordered but wow! a phenomenal taste and something we'll be sure to order next time we visit. The decor is provided by vibrant Indian street art and allows the atmosphere to be casual yet still feeling like you're out somewhere special to eat. In conclusion, if you're looking for Indian food in central Bristol, I can wholeheartedly recommend Dhamaka. The mix of street food whilst still doing excellent traditional curry dishes means there is something for everyone, even the ones who don't like sharing!

The best…read moreIndian food at delightful prices nearly as good as the all-encompassing Thalis (but with meat, meat-eating fans will be happy to hear). Although in a similar way to the thali, they do have metal tiffin tins to take away. Genius. I like that you can taste the individual spices in their food, cumin seeds etc rather than the flavours all being muddied up together like in some 'authentic' restaurants. You can also tell they use fresh veg. The peshwari naans (although veg free) are to.die.for. full.stop. and my mate had a chilli cheese one (Mexican??) which was special.

There are quite a few dishes from Goa and Kerala on the west coast of India, including some delicious fish dishes, and some North Indian specialities as well. The staff take the time to explain their menu (with pride) so you can ask any questions before you order. Take-aways are delivered free within a 4 mile radius if you spend £15, or you can get a 10% discount if you collect. Three of us ate there for the first time last Friday night, and the place had a nice, busy buzz to it with plenty of customers and background chatter. We started by sharing a Masala Dosa, a pancake with potato and a couple of chutneys, which is quite large so far too much for one. For main, we shared a few dishes so we could try a variety. We had Aleppy King Prawn, one of the more expensive items on the menu, which was cooked in a delicious coconut, coriander and mango-flavoured sauce; Goan Fish Masala, which is a distinctive-tasting dish cooked in a clay oven; and Murg Makhani (Butter Chicken), which is a creamy, mild dish from Northern India. We also ordered a couple of vegetable side dishes and naan breads, all of which were delicious. It's fantastic to see an Indian restaurant serving up real Indian desserts, too, such as the syrup-soaked Gulab Jamun, and Kulfi (Indian ice cream with exotic flavours such as rose, coconut or mango) - and I was disappointed to find myself far too full to fit any in. If they're as tasty as Ganesha's main courses, they'll be worth leaving some room for next time!

I really love it here; I actually think this might be the best Indian food in Bristol. This family run business clearly knows their way around a curry oven (?). The choice alone is fantastic and as it's all laid out in front of you waiting for you to make your choice it is even harder to pick one. The sheer range they have every day is incredible, today they had the lamb, chicken, veggie or vegan option but within each of these categories they had a variety of different curries. I think it was the hardest decision I have ever had to make in my whole life. Being early in the afternoon I had to go for one of the milder options, which I would normally absolutely hate to do, but it was still amazing. It was bursting with flavour and a very mild touch of spice, which I was told by the chef/owner, came from the Dhana Dal. For £6.50 you get a curry, the perfect sized portion of rice and a poppadom, with all the sauces already out on the table for you (chutney etc.). After I had eaten my meal I actually thought it was great value for money. I would have curry three times a day if I could and I think this was the best lunch I have ever had.

The meal deals area little confusing, but I'll forgive them for that. At the front of the counter are 6-8 different meat curry dishes that change daily. 3-4 vegetable dishes and a couple of rice options. I LOVE peas in a curry. Like, absolute love it! So when I saw mince keema lamb with peas in it, it went straight for it! I had that with another lamb curry dish, I think it was bhuna, with pilau rice. For somewhere that doesn't look that great, the food was absolutely beautiful So so tasty with a really nice heat. Not a tongue or lip stinger - just a nice mild heat that lasted with the taste of the food! This isn't the cheapest place to eat in St Nicks, but £6.90 for two really good curry dishes, rice and a poppadom with pickles - it's an absolute bargain! I love St Nicks - I love Spice up your Life!

Having been running for what is now 21 years, Ali Baba's must been doing something right, and from looking at the take-away's menu you can see why. The shops name is a little misleading because instead of the 40 Dishes you are spoilt for choice with over 120 dishes, as well as an additional 40+ side orders of rice, naan bread & sundries. Also there are a number of side dishes available to order including Saag Aloo, Tarka Dall & Sarsoon Ka Saag. If you find yourself entertaining friends or feeding the family then you can also choose from Ali Baba's Set Meals, ranging from meals for 1 to meals for 4. The take-away also accepts major credit cards which is a bonus but be warned that all orders under £10 paid by card are subject to a 60p surcharge.

These curries are amongst the finest I have ever tasted; rich, creamy, succulent, and infused with a wealth of subtle flavours and spices, you will not find Indian cuisine more satisfying than this. My favourite dish to date is the chicken passanda, a creamy coconut dish with a unique flavouring (circa £5). Most of the dishes are around £5, and worth every penny. The venue itself is also a joy to inhabit. Whilst waiting for your order, you can admire some authentic Indian artwork, and revel in some ambient Eastern melodies. Definitely an all round thumbs up for this one!
