I'm going to rave on a little more than the previous reviewer as I absolutely loved it. The best…read moreIndian food at delightful prices nearly as good as the all-encompassing Thalis (but with meat, meat-eating fans will be happy to hear). Although in a similar way to the thali, they do have metal tiffin tins to take away. Genius. I like that you can taste the individual spices in their food, cumin seeds etc rather than the flavours all being muddied up together like in some 'authentic' restaurants. You can also tell they use fresh veg. The peshwari naans (although veg free) are to.die.for. full.stop. and my mate had a chilli cheese one (Mexican??) which was special.

Ganesha is doing something quite different and perhaps even daring: it's serving up authentic…read moreIndian cuisine unlike most you'll find in other Indian restaurants in Britain. There are quite a few dishes from Goa and Kerala on the west coast of India, including some delicious fish dishes, and some North Indian specialities as well. The staff take the time to explain their menu (with pride) so you can ask any questions before you order. Take-aways are delivered free within a 4 mile radius if you spend £15, or you can get a 10% discount if you collect. Three of us ate there for the first time last Friday night, and the place had a nice, busy buzz to it with plenty of customers and background chatter. We started by sharing a Masala Dosa, a pancake with potato and a couple of chutneys, which is quite large so far too much for one. For main, we shared a few dishes so we could try a variety. We had Aleppy King Prawn, one of the more expensive items on the menu, which was cooked in a delicious coconut, coriander and mango-flavoured sauce; Goan Fish Masala, which is a distinctive-tasting dish cooked in a clay oven; and Murg Makhani (Butter Chicken), which is a creamy, mild dish from Northern India. We also ordered a couple of vegetable side dishes and naan breads, all of which were delicious. It's fantastic to see an Indian restaurant serving up real Indian desserts, too, such as the syrup-soaked Gulab Jamun, and Kulfi (Indian ice cream with exotic flavours such as rose, coconut or mango) - and I was disappointed to find myself far too full to fit any in. If they're as tasty as Ganesha's main courses, they'll be worth leaving some room for next time!

I enjoyed this restaurant…read more That doesn't sound like that great a compliment but it really is. I don't actually like indian food all that much. I'm not great at dealing with spice, so curries are pretty much off my menu. However, being a loving girlfriend I accompanied my boyfriend when we had a craving for it. And I was actually really glad that I did. The restaurant itself was really nicely kept and furnished. The waiter was lovely and the delivery of food to our table was so speedy. I had said, apologetically, that I really wasn't good with curry and when they brought my food out it had the most deliciously mild warmth to it. Obviously, for curry lovers that's not great. But my point is that they went out of their way to make my meal enjoyable. Lovely lovely people. Lovely lovely meal.

Again, another hidden gem in Cardiff just waiting to be discovered…read more Visited Balti Cuisine for the first time last night on the recommendation of a friend and was not disappointed. Opted for the King Prawn Saag (spinach dish) and steamed rice and it was delicious. My friend had the prawn corma and a garlic naan and both were very tasty (though she said that the korma seemed a little saltier than usual). We had a large bottle of Kingfisher each and the whole lot came to £28.50, which I consider to be very decent, considering the quality of the food (and comparing that with the price of drinks in Cardiff these days. Earlier in the evening, I paid £8.10 for two Vodka & Diet Cokes in the Park Plaza Laguna bar. I think going out is going to bankrupt me before long!). But back to Balti Cuisine. The decor is fabulous: LOVING the blue water cubes inlaid in the walls (they made me feel all sunny and bright!) and the table decor is clean, simple and stylish. The staff were friendly and very polite; no one pushed us to order a starter or a side dish, which is a bug-bear of mine (has anyone else been to an Indian where you feel like a criminal if you don't order starter, couple of mains with loads of sides; a mountain of food you can't possibly eat? I hate that). In the middle of our dinner, the staff also proved their mettle by dealing compassionately with a tricky situation involving an older couple who were very drunk and falling down. The staff showed genuine concern for their customers and called an ambulance while my friend picked the lady off the floor, sat her on a chair and talked to her until she calmed down. After the couple had left, every waiter came and genuinely thanked my friend for her assistance. All-in-all, I was impressed and I'll definitely be going back. I want to try some more dishes!
