They do some decent vegetarian options, including Subzi Bora (mixed vegetable balls in breadcrumbs) for starters and a pretty spicy Chana Dansak for mains, alongside a wide range of other veggie choices, plus all the usual meat dishes you'd expect on an Indian menu (and a few more besides). One non-veggie dish that's delicious and a bit different that you can get from here is Machli Gobi - freshwater Bangladeshi fish with cauliflower. Their set meals are also worth a look if you're sharing, as they're pretty good value and offer a good selection of dishes. You can also take advantage of (free) local delivery for orders of £12 or more only.

Like their neighbours, they rely heavily on their take-out and delivery sales. It is reassuring that these guys have opted to be clear about their origins. I know that Indian restaurants all over the UK are run by Bangladeshi families, but still classify themselves as 'Indians' so as to gain optimum appeal. Nevertheless, they have things like Chat on the menu (delicious!), which is a North Indian dish / snack, and they even have Southern Indian style cuisine like Puri, (one of my all time favourites... but very calorific!) Mixing and matching is quite common in the West Asian countries. I used to live in India, and was always surprised to find a lot of South East Asian dishes on the menus of even the smallest restaurants, that were well off the tourists trail. There's some great Bangladeshi options too... like, Machli Gobi, a medium curry made with freshwater Bangladeshi fish cooked with cauliflower, or Baburchi Chingri, made with king prawns in a sauce that is more like a paste in consistency, with oil holding the finely chopped ingredients together. Mm mmmmmm.....

In the…read moreten years that it has been open it has undergone a process of evolution that proves that they are as passionate about what they are doing today as when they first opened. These days they use olive oil and don't use any artificial colours when preparing their food. One of the things that hasn't changed since they opened is that they have kept their prices really affordable. They do an 'all you can eat' special on Sunday and Monday night, which at £8.95 is a great deal! (This does not include the king prawn dishes, but all of the other items on the menu are available). It's no secret that my favourite Indian dishes tend to come from the Tandoori oven, and if a restaurant doesn't have one I tend to lose interest in it pretty quickly. Chillies have a Tandoor, and so somewhat inevitably they also have my custom! They are open seven days a week until midnight.

The food is fine, but by no means gourmet fine dining, with large portions (as is the way with Indian restaurants) and special 'all you can eat' meal deals on certain quieter nights of the week (Sunday and Monday when I last visited) for around £8 including starter, main, dise dishes and even dessert! At that price, you wouldn't expect much in the way of quality - but actually it's all pretty tasty! They don't, however, do home deliveries. Finally, the staff at Chillies are always welcoming and friendly, which persuades me to give them four stars.

They are not the cheapest take away in town, but they are definitely one of the better ones. The food is exceptional, and is prepared really creatively, with a lot of flair. It's possible to buy a whole host of dishes from here that have been embellished by a unique idea or two, making the food very different, but still recognisable. In my experience only the freshest ingredients are used a s well, this makes a huge difference. The spicing of the food is subtle but clearly achieved with fresh herbs and spices wherever possible. Places like "Sub-zero", "Craft Sew and Sew" and now "Indigo" have names that show a degree of dedication to the business model and a great attitude towards the job. And they're fun, clever little things that make people turn their head sideways for 10 seconds before going "oooHHHH! Now I get it!", and that's always fun. And Indigo isn't just a one-trick pony. Thankfully, they've decided that it's not enough to have a great name; you've got to have great food to go along with it, and they approach the preparation of their food with the same care and creative flair that they approached their name. All their dishes are interesting twists on the standards; recognisable, but different enough to be called unique. You pay a little bit more at this place, but to be honest, it's worth it at least once. You may find it's a little too flashy for your tastes, but at least you've tried one of the more unique takeaways our city has to offer.

We ordered at the busiest time of evening, and were told the delivery would take 50-55 minutes (which is a while really), but it only took 30 minutes in the end. The delivery guy was very smartly dressed and polite, and it was a pleasure to deal with him and the guy who took the order (I especially liked the telephone conversation because he said 'Yes, got it,' in a very sincere way after I ordered each individual item). The food itself was one of the most pleasing Indians I've had in a while, and was the tastiest Aloo Paneer that I've ever had. Every mouthful was a delight. Plus, it only came to £16.40 for three people, which is excellent, I think, all things considered. This place is not just a takeaway, they also have a restaurant on Cowbridge Road, which is easy to find and nicely decorated. Although this place can often seem quite quiet, they sat open until 2am on a Friday and Saturday night, and this is when it gets really busy.

Offering mainly Indian and Indonesian dishes, Eurasian Tandoori creates a convincing marriage between these very different styles of cooking... the menu is vast! There's fierce competition on this stretch of street, with Sugar N Spice, a Bangladeshi restaurant and take-away located next door to the Canton Kebab House just a few doors down. Sugar N Spice present more of a threat, as they also have an extensive menu covering several different styles of Asian food, with a reasonable price range. Out of the two, depending on the order, Eurasian Tandoori works out cheaper than it's near-by neighbour, and because of the Indonesian options, it is also sufficiently different to tip the balance in its favour. But, just to maintain their competitive edge, they also do Bangladeshi fish dishes! A bit sneaky really! It's also possible to order a take-out into the early morning at the weekends, so this is a real advantage as well, especially as delivery is free if you spend more than a tenner. The service is great, and the food is excellent. I love the Biryani's! I've only ever eaten in once, and found it to be a very pleasant experience... especially as it's a 'bring your own' arrangement, which helps to keep the costs down. I really like both Eurasian Tandoori and Sugar N Spice, and am only able to decide between them if I know I want to order something that one of the two don't have on their menu! I recommend you try them both!!!

Serving pan-Asian and Bangladeshi cuisine that is unsurpassable; these five restaurants have clearly taken the best ideas and advice from the pool, and applied them to arrive at a winning formula. So, not only have they achieved their aims admirably, they have also been rewarded with the recognition that they deserve. Regional credits include 'Indian Restaurant of the Year' from the South Wales Echo and the same from the South Wales Argus. The look of the restaurants have also contributed to the overall appeal, and has certainly gone some way toward helping them achieve such high acclaim. Again, they have taken the best of the best, and arrived at a look that is tastefully contemporary, and very much their own. Balti Empire is a sombre and elegant looking place, painted in muted tones, and adorned with refined artwork, providing a sophisticated back-drop to an evening of fine dining. I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough!

I recently discovered however that Bombay Mix delivers locally, and as I was rather tired (or lazy), decided to give them a try. Unfortunately Bombay Mix disappointed me from the offset. When you order online you can pick a delivery time (or ASAP), I chose 20:30, in spite of this within a minute a message appeared onscreen informing me that my food would be delivered at 21:05, which was a bit too late in my opinion, but the order had gone through so there was nothing I could really do about it. However most surprisingly, at 20:10 there was a knock on the door, and lo and behold there was the deliveryman with my food. Luckily my housemates and I were all in, but this very likely might not have been the case, so this was clearly unacceptable. The food itself was very fresh, but not to my personal taste. I found the pastry of my vegetable samosa to be far too thick and with very few vegetables in it. One of my flatmates also complained that the chicken pieces in his chicken korma were much too big. The food prices are also rather high, which I can generally accept when the food is good, but grated my nerves after this meal. The menu is very extensive and the online ordering and delivering service is handy if you can't get out of the house. However after my experience with Bombay Mix, I'm pretty sure I won't be ordering from them again.
