I kind of stumbled into this place because I couldn't try to find anyplace else at that point. But I saw good prices and nice decor and figured it was worth a shot. IT IS. I'm white and from America where there's a lack of Indian food so I'm not sure how it compares, but I've tried a lot and it was near the top of my list. I think it's the best value out of any meal I've gotten in the UK. Nice staff, kind of hard to get the attention of, but they seemed spread thin once the dinner rush came in. Sad to be leaving so I can't stop here agai

I went with my 9yo son who loves Indian cuisine and they made a fuss of him and he got a free drink; good customer relations. We both had starters and main course with drinks which came to £50. 20% discount from voucher cloud and we paid £40. He food was great and the portions large, we'll be back next time I take him for a curry. I'm going to rave on a little more than the previous reviewer as I absolutely loved it. The best…read moreIndian food at delightful prices nearly as good as the all-encompassing Thalis (but with meat, meat-eating fans will be happy to hear). Although in a similar way to the thali, they do have metal tiffin tins to take away. Genius. I like that you can taste the individual spices in their food, cumin seeds etc rather than the flavours all being muddied up together like in some 'authentic' restaurants. You can also tell they use fresh veg. The peshwari naans (although veg free) are to.die.for. full.stop. and my mate had a chilli cheese one (Mexican??) which was special.

Ganesha is doing something quite different and perhaps even daring: it's serving up authentic…read moreIndian cuisine unlike most you'll find in other Indian restaurants in Britain. There are quite a few dishes from Goa and Kerala on the west coast of India, including some delicious fish dishes, and some North Indian specialities as well. The staff take the time to explain their menu (with pride) so you can ask any questions before you order. Take-aways are delivered free within a 4 mile radius if you spend £15, or you can get a 10% discount if you collect. Three of us ate there for the first time last Friday night, and the place had a nice, busy buzz to it with plenty of customers and background chatter. We started by sharing a Masala Dosa, a pancake with potato and a couple of chutneys, which is quite large so far too much for one. For main, we shared a few dishes so we could try a variety. We had Aleppy King Prawn, one of the more expensive items on the menu, which was cooked in a delicious coconut, coriander and mango-flavoured sauce; Goan Fish Masala, which is a distinctive-tasting dish cooked in a clay oven; and Murg Makhani (Butter Chicken), which is a creamy, mild dish from Northern India. We also ordered a couple of vegetable side dishes and naan breads, all of which were delicious. It's fantastic to see an Indian restaurant serving up real Indian desserts, too, such as the syrup-soaked Gulab Jamun, and Kulfi (Indian ice cream with exotic flavours such as rose, coconut or mango) - and I was disappointed to find myself far too full to fit any in. If they're as tasty as Ganesha's main courses, they'll be worth leaving some room for next time!

The rather sorry-looking Brunel Raj in Clifton Village is not a bad Indian restaurant, but I've…read moretried better. I've had some food here that's been very nice, such as the onion bhaji and fish tikka Starters, and other dishes that have been mediocre, such as the Achari Chicken. The staff are fairly friendly and attentive, and the portions (like in most Indians) are generous enough, but some items on the menu are quite expensive - such as the Brunel Special King Prawns, which the restaurants claims to be well-known for (and I think cost £17.50). The Brunel Raj is not the prettiest restaurant in town, and certainly not the most elegant in Clifton Village, with a fairly drab interior of green walls, historical paintings of Bristol, and a mirrored wall decorated with a transfer of Clifton Suspension Bridge. Despite this, it's often completely booked up at weekends, and busy even on weekdays, so seems to have established a loyal following - but with so many Indian restaurants out there I think I'd rather try somewhere different next time.

The Brunel Raj is awesome! The exterior and decor really don't do the place justice. The decor is…read morevery old-fashioned and leaves much to be desired. One side of the wall is taken over by a picture of the suspension bridge. However, the food really is good, and they have a takeaway service which gives the Raj an A*. The service is efficient and the staff are really accommodating - they are happy to cater for large groups.
