We had Allied Contracting install an Ella's Bubble walk-in tub, pocket doors on both our bathrooms, and attic access in our hallway. We could not be happier with the final result and we felt the cost of these task were quite reasonable. Ella's bubbles of New Jersey referred us to Allied Construction, saying they had worked with them before. John came out before we ordered the tub to scout the job. I ordered a tub without realizing that it was too large to fit through the door opening of the bathroom, and did not discover this until after it was delivered. Also, the drain and water supply on the tub were on the wrong side due to the location of the tub door and the toilet. John did not waver and said they would figure it out. Figure it out they did! They tore out the entire wall and vanity to get the very large tub in there. Carlos, the plumber who works for John, is a magician and did a beautiful job of rerouting the drainage and water supply and installing the tub with no room to speak of to work. I was really afraid at point that they would say this job was impossible! Carlos never gave up and in the end the installation was beautiful and the operation perfect! Since the bathroom wall was gone, John suggested we install a pocket door to replace the old 28 inch bathroom entry door that swung into the bathroom taking up valuable space. David and his brother Mr. E came in and installed the pocket door and re-did the electrical to move the light switch from the pocket door wall, wired up a new lighted medicine cabinet and did all the electrical and trim for the new tub. They did a magnificent job with all the electrical and trim. The bathroom is beautiful and looks new! We loved the pocket door and lighted medicine cabinet so much, we asked John to come back and do the same treatment to the master bathroom. We also wanted attic access added to our hallway, so that no one had to access through my wife's closet in the future. David and Mr. E came back along with David's son Randy and accomplished all these requests in 4 days! The prep work in our bedroom was really stepped up, with a lot of care as not to harm our bedroom furniture in any way! The results of the work were just as beautiful as the other job! The attic access is a pull down ladder in the hallway. David added a light and light switch up there and a large plywood platform for tools or storage. It turn out really cool! It was very unique to have a literal family of workers working on our house. They made us feel like part of their family while they were here! Their prep and clean up work was impeccable. John, the owner of Allied Construction is super laid back and very easy to work with hearing our plans and enhancing them further. We consider him to be a friend now and would not hesitate to have him and Allied do other projects for us in the future. We would highly recommend Allied Contracting for any project you have in mind! read more

John, and the team did a fantastic job building my dream garage. Their craftmanship and attention to detail was the best we have ever experienced in San Diego residential construction. The pricing was fair and up front and his guys were friendly and professional. read more

I contacted this company for a quote on my bathroom and kitchen remodel. John arrived about 30 minutes late to the initial meeting to view the space. I actually reached out to see where he was once 5 or so minutes had passed and was told he was about 20 minutes away. After that I had to follow back up to request the actual quote as I had not heard back. I requested a revision to the quote due to changes I wanted and was told to "work with a handyman instead". Not a great experience and communication was definitely sub par. read more

I can't say enough good things about this company. From beginning to end, John and his team were incredible to work with and made this process as seamless as possible. Let me start out by saying that our house flooded last October and dealing with the contractors for those repairs was a complete and utter nightmare. I was so skeptical when we decided to remodel our kitchen this summer. From our first meeting, John and his team quickly cast away any doubts or fears that I had. Before signing any contracts, we were given a detailed quote with breakdowns by line item for complete transparency. We were also given the exact dates for progress completion and the applicable amounts due at each milestone. On top of all that, their quote was very reasonable for the amount of work being done. John was there from the get-go and gave us his recommendations for the best people to work with for everything from cabinets to appliances. His team went above and beyond. They were at the front door promptly at 7:00 AM each day and kept us constantly updated on the status. Everything flew by and I was in awe with how fast all the work was completed. The team was super accommodating, working around my hectic schedule with the kids, and they were all incredibly professional and nice. They asked me about every single little detail to make sure they were doing exactly what we wanted. With every issue, which were all tiny, nitpicky details, they were immediately responsive and fixed right away. John stopped by every day to check progress and reached out every day to keep us updated and ensure everything was going well. That personal touch just shows how above and beyond this company goes for their clients. Pictures do NOT do justice to the amazing work done. I still can hardly believe this is the same kitchen! All in all, this was a stellar experience and I highly recommend using Allied Contracting to anyone looking for a contractor. I finally have my dream kitchen. read more

We just completed a major 3-part remodel with Allied Contracting and are VERY HAPPY with the outcome. John's team came in on-budget and completed the jobs 2 weeks early. We expanded the primary bath, completely changing the footprint. It's beautiful and EXACTLY what we wanted. We revised the front of the house, adding mid-century modern architectural elements. We painted the entire house, including 2 accent colors. And, we updated a huge 3-sided red brick fireplace with the look of clean, white ship-lap. John's team of professionals arrived each morning at the same time (7AM) and did not depart for the day until everything was swept, vacuumed and neat. All of his tradesmen are consummate professionals and genuinely nice people. We plan to remodel the kitchen next year and will be calling on Allied Contracting to do the work. read more

John and his team was great to work with from the initial meeting till the end of the many mini projects. John knew how to work with my requests, budget and walked me through the things that I had questions about. His team Leroy and David are also great, easy to work with and made sure everything was done nicely. They clean up after themselves daily. The process took longer due to rain but they made sure they took care of everything before the final day. read more

Great experience with them on our two full bathrooms. The crew cleaned up after each time they were here. Most impressively John's aggressive timelines were always met. Love working with John Connolly and Carpenter Dave! Used Allied Contracting for a prior deck install in my back yard, and called them back when I wanted more work done. John brought forth design ideas and concepts I had never thought of. I even recommended them to my parents who also wanted them to get work done. John follows through! A full service company, great price and trustworthy service. read more

Started out well. I contacted Allied Contracting about doing some work for me in our home that we were selling. Met with John, went through the various items and they said they would be happy to do it. I admitted the job was relatively small and his comment was "the little stuff is our bread and butter so no problem." He told me he would get his maintenance guy on it and get it on the schedule. I thought we were good to go and the work would get done. In fact, I counted on it as we were in a short escrow. Didn't hear back for a few days, called John and he said they would "get on it." Didn't hear back for another few days so I sent an email to them where I had originally contacted them -- no response. Texted John -- no response (got the Delivered indication so I know he got it). At this point, I realized this wasn't going to happen so I scrambled to find someone else at the last minute. Guess maybe if your project is a big one they won't "ghost" you? Would have just appreciated it if they had told me it wasn't big enough and they didn't have time rather than string me along and then never contact me again. BTW, that was several weeks ago and still haven't heard back from them! Beware... read more

I saw his sign posted in a yard down the street and it reminded me of my experience. I had a bathroom redone a few years back. At the time there were a few negative reviews talking about shoddy work, crooked walls, etc, but I met with John and he presented as trustworthy. I see those negative reviews are gone now. I thought you couldn't get Yelp to remove reviews? I had the worst experience, but let it go. Since Yelp is editing, I'm going to add my review so people get an accurate picture. John seems fine and listens to your plan. Then disappears for his workers to do whatever they want. I was obviously a side project between his better clients. He would frequently no show for days at a time. The 4 week plan took 3 months. He gives a schedule for progress payments and the build plan but then sneaks in the contract final payment is due three months out and then uses that against you when you question why he's no showing. "Says right here I have til three months from now to finish." The work is terrible. They dry walled over an outlet. Put the toilet in the wrong spot. And we had to go through 2 tubs because their tile guys dropped tiles in it and stood in it to tile the walls without putting a drop cloth down which scratched and chipped the tub, which he blamed me for. We have a raised foundation and plumbing work should have been done from below. But they're lazy and cut a giant hole in the subfloor to do the tub plumbing. A quarter of the tub was floating over the hole. Then the tub was rocking in place because they cut corners (and probably because the tub was hanging over a hole) and didn't embed it in mortar like the instructions say, and told me the grout from the floor tile will "lock it in place" like I'm an idiot that would believe that. The tub drain, spout, and shower head don't line up. Tile grout lines vary in thickness up to half inch. And a small wall they built for the tub alcove is crooked, out of plumb, and somehow thicker at the bottom. I put my own door in, then he nickel and dimed me over other details. He didn't want to put the casing or baseboards in because i did the door install (per our contract it was just the door since I already had it) and he said casing and baseboards are part of the door install. Casings maybe. But baseboards? I had the toilet and vanity before they started. But they plumbed for the wrong size toilet (making the toilet stick out and away from the wall) and put the pipes in the wrong spots for the vanity. The house is old so the floor sloped a bit. But instead of doing a proper tile install they just tiled over the sloping subfloor. Luckily after I complained the tile guys pulled the tile up and floated it level. I don't think that's how it's supposed to be done but at least I don't have to walk on an out of level wet floor. About a year later I was up in the attic and discovered they got power to the bathroom by stripping a wire that was already up there and twisting the new line to the bathroom to it. No junction box. Just stripped the wire mid run and connected to it and lay it back down in the insulation. When he drove the trailer of construction waste out of my driveway he hit and ran over and cracked the retaining wall, and denied it. I wish I making this all up. I could write on and on about other details if my experience. You're better off doing it yourself, doing it wrong and starting over, and doing it again. It'll still be better, faster, and cheaper than using allied. Unless you like to pay premium for DIY quality. Hopefully Yelp doesn't bury or remove this so you can at least get a full idea of the contractors you're vetting. read more

I highly recommend Allied Contracting! The dirt storage area under my townhome flooded from the storms that hit San Diego earlier this year. I met with a couple of contractors to gain knowledge and learn about options. I chose John Connolly and Allied Contracting because I was impressed with the solutions that John proposed. He was patient and answered all my questions. I was looking for a permanent solution to water issues that could come up in future years. He and his team did not disappoint. I was overwhelmed about the situation. Allied Contracting helped me make it through the last of the storms and then proceeded with the start of the project which involved digging next to the foundation, graveling, waterproofing, slopping, and concrete work. He came up with the idea of doing a built-in planter box too which I love. There were a couple of issues related to the common area adjacent to my unit and without hesitation, there were solutions. The team was hardworking, polite, and trustworthy. Overall, an excellent experience! read more

Allied Contracting - General Contractors Near Me - San Diego, California

I've worked as a sub-contractor and had my trade tools stored in my mother's garage while I was overseas. In 2017 she hired Allied to insulate a portion of the garage(which required removing items off shelves, hanging drywall, and re-shelving items) and install a new front door. Apparently that project turned into a fiasco. Ultimately she had to go the state contractors licensing board to force a settlement on the sub-par work done by John and his crew. I just returned from being overseas on 1/30/22. I was checking out the work that Allied did in the garage. I spent the next three days trying to organize the garage. I am missing allot of trade tools. My wrench and socket sets, chop saw, misc tools, PPE, tool belt, bicycle parts, bike tools, they had a field day on my property. When I brought it up with my mother she mentioned that the employees offered to buy my tools and she balked at the request. Who does that? works at someone's house and starts shopping items... I've worked for years in the trades and am shocked that Allied Contracting would resort to such unscrupulous behavior. This guy and his crew are pathetic. People need to know who they are inviting into their house beforehand. read more

John and his team were absolutely amazing from beginning to end and I am hard to please. They never got frustrated, came on time daily and worked non stop including asking about working after hours and on holidays if possible which we were more than happy to do. Worked on a full kitchen remodel, new hardwood all downstairs, and a fireplace remodel. Each individual that came in the home was professional and pleasant to work with as we were together for many months. Check out the photos they speak for themselves and I will be using him for my backyard remodel and exterior remodel. 100 percent fantastic! read more

BEWARE of the shotty workmanship. There prep guys for tile showers will not be professional . The walls will be new and out of plumb. Mr. John Connolly is joke of a contractor. He doesn't know much on the trade. If he can allow 1 1/2 inch out of plumb on a new shower wall, him and his team either don't have a level or really just don't care.Mr. John low balls the finish tile trade and expects miracles out of shotty prep work. I would NEVER use Allied or referre them to anyone who wants work done. His prep guys are not TILE INSTALLERS and they DO NOT WATER TEST THE SHOWER PANS! RED FLAGS ALL OVER HIS JOBS. EVERY CUSTOMER I WORKED WITH WAS NOT HAPPY WITH THE PREP. Prep should be down accordingly with the tile layout and is not preped correctly. ZERO STARS!!! read more

Allied Contracting is awesome. The owner John is an amazingly talented guy with a great artistic eye and journeyman skills for all things construction and design. All that and a pleasure to deal with. Several of my close friends have engaged Allied for jobs small and large. They were all pleased and recommend Allied. One small job was to add crown molding to an Allied Gardens living room. This is crazy hard to do well since the walls and corners are generally not straight in this 60 year old homes. The finished product looked perfect without visible joints anywhere and the finished product was "Finished" meaning painted and complete and everything all cleaned up. At another friends home, he built the most beautiful back yard bar / entertainment center I've ever seen. Built on a hill, it encompassed multi level decks with beautiful stairs and railings. And the Bar area at the top is this awesome covered open beam structure with fantastic built in's. It reminds me of a bar you might find in a very high end hotel or ski resort. I highly recommend them. - Dave. read more

John and his workman performed above my expectations. Good dude, solid work, easy to talk to and always available. Did a killer job on our kitchen remodel

We Hired Allied Contracting to rennovate the flooring in our 60 year old home in Allied Gardens. We hired Allied first to remove all existing carpeting in the home, then to assist us in determining which floors were good candidates for refinishing. John Connolly's assessment was that our living room and dining room were in good enough condition to refinish without significant new wood, and provided us with a quote that we deemed fair to accomplish the work. We discussed moving out of the home while the work was ongoing, but were reassured by John that he could isolate the work area and minimize disruption to our daily schedules while the work was on-going. Allied carefully isolated the work area with plastic sheeting and promptly started work, which consisted of several sanding passes, and several coats of polyurethane, applied with 24 hour drying periods between coats. The wood dust was contained successfully by the sanders, and John's isolating sheeting. The odor of the polyurethane was objectionable when it was applied, but quickly dissipated without any adverse effects. Allied manned the job consistently, and never missed a promised work day, allowing us minimum disruption to our daily schedule, and the work area was always left neat with all debris removed. We are very pleased with the results. The floors look great and we feel we have added value to our home. We would highly recommend Allied Contracting for work. read more

John and his crew performed flawlessly all tasks outlined in the job proposal which comprised of installing crown moulding in my living room, matching the existing hardwood flooring and installing additional hardwood flooring in the hallway, refinishing the existing flooring throughout the house, hanging several new interior doors, new baseboards and painting several rooms. This work was all completed while my family and I were on vacation. My wife had no idea this work was being done while we were gone and was so very surprised to find this mini remodel of our modest Allied Gardens home done in such a timely manner. As mentioned, John and his crew completed this work while we were away on holiday and were trusted in every manner to adhere to the standards of quality of craftsmanship expected in these varied trades involved in completing these tasks. Allied Contracting, John and team, did a great job replacing our front wood door, security door and patio screen doors. They completed the job quickly and professionally. I started looking at our replacements through the "big" stores, but they wouldn't do the screens and the process became disjointed and overwhelming. So, I sought out Allied Contracting and John came in and provide samples and a comparable cost. John always made himself available and guaranteed our satisfaction throughout the process and his review upon final completion. One would think it's just doors, but there was sizing, weatherstripping, locks, handles, alignment, stucco, painting...all done perfectly and made our entries inviting. Our job wasn't a big one, but It was important to us and Allied made us feel like it was important to them. We will definitely look to Allied when we get to our second story remodeling project! read more
