I had two problems that needed to be addressed. I had a fairly new toilet that hadn't been set…read moreproperly and was moving around the floor and leaking. Also, the cold water stopped working in my shower, making the shower unusable. I lost my husband this year and am never sure about what to do when things go wrong in the house, since I never had to address those problems in the past. I called 1-Tom and they made me feel completely confident about my choice. Right from the start, I liked the fact that they answered the phone and I didn't have to keep pushing buttons to get to the right person. I was told that they stood behind all their work and they would make sure I was satisfied with the outcome. Before Alex came to my home, I received a photo of him. He was confident and friendly and I immediately felt I was in good hands. Originally it looked like it was going to be a bad situation with the toilet and that the floor might have to be torn up. Alex showed me what the problem was and I could now see why the toilet couldn't be installed correctly in the first place. Alex called his boss and discussed what needed to be done. He was able to do it without damaging the floor, which was a huge relief. I trusted that 1-Tom did the best job possible for me while avoiding major repairs. I would definitely use their services again and recommend them to my friends.

JD's Plumbing & HVAC - Replaced crusted air bleed on heating system

I was quoted a price of $275 to replace the wax seal on a leaking toilet bowl. When JD arrived, he removed the toilet bowl and replaced the wax seal. Since the toilet bowl still leaked he only charged us $100 and said that his partner would contact us because this was a more complex plumbing problem that he was not qualified to deal with and that such a problem could run into the thousands of dollars. When we did not hear from the partner within two days, my husband (who is not a plumber) watched some YouTube videos on how to do this. He removed the toilet bowl, and found that no preparatory work was done before replacing the seal. Every video that he watched said that it was extremely necessary to remove all of the old wax and any other debris. Additionally, the new wax seal required two longer bolts which he should've had on his truck and should have used. After purchasing the necessary products (wax seal and bolts) which cost less than $10, he cleaned out all the old wax and other debris, and then replaced the toilet bowl which is now no longer leaking.

Roto-Rooter Plumbing & Water Cleanup

Roto-Rooter solved my problem, but the experience left a bad taste in my mouth…read more I scheduled a free estimate through Yelp after Roto-Rooter was the first company to respond. My appointment was confirmed for between 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM. At 8:30 AM, they called asking if they could come immediately. I explained that my family was still getting ready for the day and that we only have one bathroom, so I asked them to honor the original appointment window. Then, at noon, I received another call saying the technician was on the way. They didn't arrive until about 20 minutes later. Two technicians came in, looked at the drain issue, and quoted nearly $800 plus tax. Because this is the only bathroom in my home and I needed the problem fixed, I really didn't have much choice. I approved the work. Here's the part that bothered me: the entire job took less than 15 minutes. To be clear, the drain is working and the technicians were professional. I have no complaints about the quality of the repair. My issue is paying nearly $800 for what amounted to a very quick service call. When the technicians walked out the door less than 15 minutes after they arrived, it was hard not to feel like I had just paid an emergency premium price for a routine fix. To make matters worse, I continued receiving automated calls from Roto-Rooter trying to schedule the appointment that had already been completed and paid for. That gave the impression that the scheduling and customer service systems are not well coordinated. If you need immediate service and money is no object, Roto-Rooter will likely get the job done. If you have time to shop around, I strongly recommend getting multiple quotes first. Looking back, I suspect many local plumbers could have performed the same repair for significantly less.

Just overall seemed like a good guy. We got a very fair estimate. His wife, the office secretary, was very good with walking me through the process with National Grid, as well as the paperwork process for the rebates. The gas conversion itself was quick and seamless. It is clear they've done this many, many times. Richie was not there. There were a large group of men who came in to do the job who never really introduced themselves. Honestly, more like a much of boys. Most were not very friendly, but I assume it's just because they're young. I had as issue with a sink clogging up the night before the conversion and when I asked them about it the day of (since they're plumbers) they were able to fix it for me which I really appreciate. When the project was done and I gave him a check, the guy in charge seemed annoyed saying how he's got to pay his team in cash, etc. He had stated my husband said we were going to paid cash. And that if I am to pay check now, he'd add tax and charge for me the plumbing work (which obviously it's not like I expected it to be free). He was certainly getting irritated. I honestly felt at the time I didn't have any other choice - they want cash and want it right now... not my check. My husband wasn't home at the time (my husband later denied he said it was a cash deal nor does it say so in our paperwork) so I just shlepped my newborn with me in the dead of the February winter to the bank while they waited for me at the house. It was just a weird situation. Their professionalism can definitely be something of a concern. However they get the job done and they're actually good. And the price is right. Sooo... maybe it's a trade off.

Great attitude. And all work performed for a fair and honest price. If you have any plumbing work, give Richie a call.
