Now I have to pay another plumber to do the job that Victory should have done correctly the first time.

Richard Haviland is a rare find. I needed a plumber to do some work in Brooklyn, but I did not have…read morethe time or resources to go to Brooklyn to find one. So, of course, I went to the web, Craigslist in particular, wading through a lot of ads and promo-posts that looked suspect at best and downright deceitful at worst. I was beginning to get worried when something about Richard's post caught my eye. I can't even tell you what it was to this day; it wasn't flashy or bombastic - maybe that's what it was, who knows. But something made me call him - and so far he has turned out to be the best tradesman I have had going into that building on a regular basis. He investigates the problem, gets in touch with me to review the details, we settle on a cost - always reasonable - and a course of action, and he gets the job done, letting me know the final bill. Work's done, tenants are happy and all is right with the world. He is a man of his word. And did I mention that I have yet to meet him face to face? That's right - we've been working together now for almost a year, and he and I have been nothing more than voices on the phone to each other with a little bit of cellphone technology mixed in. Sure, I have a guy in the building who works as a go-between for the residents and for followups. But Richard and I have been operating on a virtual handshake for almost a year now, and more than once he has shown himself to be not only a very good plumber, but a man with integrity and a compassionate heart. I am very fortunate to have come across his post in Craigslist. I know exactly What led me to him! And I just want to make that known to anyone else who needs some plumbing work done in Brooklyn and would like to deal with a real decent human being. Thanks a lot, Richard!

They are…read morecompletely free of greed--they seem committed to completing their work as inexpensively as possible. They show up reliably 100% of the time. The best plumber experience I have ever had. Edited to drop a star. I'm sorry to harm the average but I feel I have to: Now that I've called Richard a couple more times, I have to say he never actually got his hands wet at our home. He takes my call or text and even will come over ... then accepts no payment for his time and recommends someone else. Generous and kind but not what you expect when you contact a plumber. If his B team were 100% great that would be okay--they're decent, but south of four stars. Not sure what aspect of plumbing Richard actually does.

We used Yelp's Projects feature to look for contractors to help us resolve this situation. I added a picture of the part making unusual noises to my Yelp project request to provide some detail about the situation. Tom's Plumbing & Heating Services responded first. From my photo, Justin identified my malfunctioning part as the circulator pump, and after a few questions confirming that nothing else was wrong, Justin recommended that the circulator pump be replaced. He provided two options for circulator pumps, along with web links and total costs for each option, and a web link to my existing circulator pump for reference. I selected a pump with horsepower equivalent to my existing pump. The cost of all parts that Justin referenced were roughly equivalent on Amazon.com. Other vendors requested a complete picture of the boiler system, or had initial consultation fees. The service visit totaled roughly 90 minutes. In that time, Justin: - Replaced the boiler drain valve because it hasn't been used in many years and no longer worked - Drained my boiler - Installed the new circulator pump - Bled (i.e., removed air from) most of my radiators. Justin emphasized the importance of bleeding the radiators, as air in the system reduces the boiler's efficiency. - Demonstrated how to override the water pressure regulator in case of insufficient system pressure. - Pointed out other potential points of failure to monitor in the boiler system -- the water pressure regulator and expansion tank. Overall, we were very happy with the service provided. Thanks to Mike S. for his review, which helped in our selection!

This is a 18 month old boiler. in researching the maintenance kit from Weil Mclain for the boiler is about 150 dollars. I was quoted 1838 dollars for the maintenance When looking at the facts on time and material I find the following: Maintenance Kit Cost: Genuine Weil-McLain AquaBalance Annual Maintenance Kits (typically containing gaskets, an ignitor, and a flame sensor) are widely available online for $147.00 to $257.00. Labor Time: The manufacturer advises that a complete preventative maintenance procedure should take approximately 2 to 2.5 hours. Even if charging 200 dollars and hour and a premium kit price ($250), a fair total would be approximately $650 to $750. The quote of $1,838 is nearly triple the high-end estimate. Precharging 125 dollar up front , plus fees and taxes bringing it to over 135 dollars and stating it is required and never having even recieved what the possible fees they charges are is unscrupulous when they are charging over 3X the national average, and when i called for a refund on the estimate stating this i was outright refused. If i could give ZERO stars i would!!
