Smothered pork chop over rice with Mac & cheese, corn, cornbread
SJ K.

BEST (like actually) place for soul food in the area! Definitely a hole in a wall spot, but it's going here always makes the trip down to Galveston so worth it. I always get either the fried catfish or the smothered porkchop combo, and Mac & cheese (it's always perfect) & corn. Large portion sizes & you will have left overs for another small meal or snack. Very friendly staff. Pro tip: go early (like before 2/3pm) to make sure they don't run out of what you want

Pretty good food. Thank you I would return if I'm in the area . Lady at the front was helpful

Soul Food Sunday at Allen's! This was some of the best home cooking I've had from a restaurant. Mac and cheese is all the way homemade!

The veggie plate is where it's at. The portions are large enough for two meals. I've never had a bad dish from Allen's.

If you're cruising the seawall looking for a solid meal with a side of ocean views, Nick's Kitchen…read moreand Beach Bar should be on your radar. We discovered it through Galveston Restaurant Week. They offered three course meals so diners could get a feel for what they offer. The portion sizes are insane. I never finish my meal, always take it to-go. You'll never leave hungry. Service is always warm and friendly. Our waiter, Aaron on our first visit was an absolute character. He kept the jokes coming. Nick's is part of the legendary Gaido family, an iconic seafood dynasty.

We came here for appetizers after a long morning of driving 5 hours. We had the shrimp Mickey,…read morechilled shrimp, calamari, spinach & artichoke dip, and my youngest had the sliders. The shrimp Mickey was amazing and an unexpected flavor. I was expecting something closer to scampi flavor but it had way more depth. The dipping bread was also spectacular! The artichoke dip had huge chunks of artichoke in it so they did not skimp! Chilled shrimp was nice and fresh! My older kids didn't love the calamari but I think they were just overwhelmed by the tomatoes. The creamy tomato sauce that came with it was so delicious I would buy it jarred! My youngest reported loving the sliders and the fresh fruit cup was good fruit not cheap fruit. The sole reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the hostess humiliated my oldest, albeit unintentionally. He has a brain issue and is small. When I tried to give him an adult menu the hostess was questioning him on his age and was visibly surprised he is a teenager. I tried to shut her up but it ruined the experience for him bc he doesn't want to discuss medical info to make people stop talking. I could see if I were trying to get an older child a cheaper kid's meal but that wasn't the case. I think she just needs better training to not grill people. Just let them eat. The waitress was amazing and the bartender made the drinks PERFECTLY!

This is a pretty eclectic place that fits in well here in Galveston. During Spring Break, they…read morewere a little busier during the weekday than normal. Lots of good options on the menu, and I was craving their famous cinnamon roll pancakes, but then a server brought out migas to a table and I immediately knew I wanted that instead. Here, it's a little opposite from most places, you gotta pick your seat first then order as the seats, especially the tables, are hard to come by at times. There are plenty stools along the window but the tables are better and most tables are family style so you'll likely be meeting someone new. I also added a chocolate bread pudding for myself which looked really good. The rest of my group ordered the granny's breakfast with sausage, 2 scrambled eggs and Benny's tostadas. The food comes out surprisingly quick for as busy as they are. Everything was so delicious! I ate a little of the bread pudding at the restaurant, then eventually ate the rest over the course of the next few hours. Yum! This restaurant is highly recommended!

I saw this place from a Galveston influencer. He really hyped this place up. I see nothing but…read moregood reviews so It pains me to say this but this was the worst meal my wife and I ever had. People rave about the service. The service is fine. You order at the counter and get your own silverware and drinks. The food is another story. I had the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and corn. Mash was fine. Corn was whatever. From can to plate. Nothing added. The CFS was atrocious. It was like breaded & over salted shoe leather. See the pictures. I couldn't eat all of it. The best thing on the plate was the toast. Oh, and they charge $19 for it. Whether frozen or homemade, which I doubt, to deliberately serve this to a customer, shame on you. My wife got the BLT. $13.50 for bread and lettuce with a little bacon. No mayo or mustard. Plain and bland. We realized later that you have to procure your own condiments, I think. Still, it was not good. The fries were undercooked and tasted baked. Sorry, but I feal betrayed by social media and what must be friendly reviews. This review is honest. The place is cool and I had high hopes but was sorely disappointed. Oh, I had a piece of cherry cheesecake. It was good.

First off - since 1911 - the heritage alone = a must try…read more Nice spot with views of the Gulf. While dated (one might think) - it just adds to the charm and experience from my perspective. Our granddaughter on the other-hand - (9) - exclaimed upon walking in that she thought she was on the Titanic ; ) I found the wood finishes and vintage photos rich and nicely done. Granddaughter thoroughly loved her oysters for dinner and our grandsons raved about their dishes too. My wife and I shared the Gulf Shrimp and Catfish platters - both fresh and fried to perfection. Appetizers of fried crab fingers and the lump crab meat with avocado had us from the start along with the starter bread - which one could eat their weight in - so pace yourself - wonderfully delicious. Pleasant attentive staff and hostesses. Highly recommend you enjoy this Galveston landmark !

Good service, Geraldo was kind, courteous, efficient, and provided nice recommendations based on our ask. Hearing his growth from greeter to busser to bartender and server is such a great story, and one that shows a restaurant that cares about their people. The food however is a 2-Star at best! Expectations at this level are extremely high, and crunchy undercooked rice, seared tuna with no sear, and a burger without a toasted bun for my son... just doesn't cut it. They fixed the burger with adding a bit of cheese, but didn't replace the rice on my BLACKENED YELLOWFIN TUNA, unsure if the concern was escalated properly, as we were in a later seating. This place is basically a good deep fryer place, as the only people who truly loved their meals were my wife with the FAMOUS FRIED PLATTER and my younger son with the kids chicken nuggets... Even my meal where the fried potato wedges were the highlight and not the fish. To their credit, the portions are very good, and the TWO CHOCOLATE MOUSSE was divine.... I think the kids polished the glass to a radiant shine! It's unfortunate, as this had all the makings of an epic family night out... only to become a bit of a downer.
