I always thought of Dr. Hasse as a 5-star dentist: gentle, non-invasive treatment. But I found over several years that he was often not in the office when I arrived and I was treated by a colleague instead. This happened at least three times over 4 years -- without any notification. I also realized that my teeth weren't being cleaned. Dr. Hasse did a thorough exam and always told me things looked good, but aside from a a minute or two with the electric scaler there was no cleaning. I finally realized I could do better. read more

Seriously good dentist. Always a pleasant experience. He is such a nice guy and very personable and interesting. Travels a lot , always going to or coming from somewhere cool. Never had to wait, he is very efficient, always out within the hour. He doesn't berate me too badly when I haven't been flossing as regularly as I should but subtly tells me to floss regularly. Never tells you you need work when you don't , if anything I think he undersells. Nice guy. If you're looking for a good dentist that isn't trying to rip you off with needless dental work and takes and hour and a half to clean your teeth then Dr. Hasse is for you. I'm always a little nervous to go to the dentist, even for a cleaning but Dr. Hasse is so calming and doesn't waste time getting things all taken care of so you can be off to the rest of your day. He also offers great advice on the best way to clean your teeth so you won't have to worry too much about cavities. Plus, he checks your insurance to make sure what you need to have done is covered and if it's not he let's you know so you're not completley shocked when you get the bill. He's a keeper. read more

I found Dr. Hasse on Yelp - how fortunate! I really really really (and at the risk of being repetitive) really love Dr. Hasse!!! I have a semi- sensitive mouth and he is so gentle. Dr. Hasse has twice repaired dental work that I had done by a childhood dentist. Both times he caught the issue before it escalated into a serious code red dental emergency and he was able to make the repairs within literally 10 minutes and with little (and once with NO) Novocaine. Dr. Hasse's abilities are unmatched by any dentist that I have ever had - even the dentist that I went to in College who I raved about. I've had alot of dental work done over the years, and having a dad, brother, uncles, and cousins in the business, I feel fairly confident that Dr. Hasse is one of the best dentists around. Having a root canal isn't a walk in the park, but he talked me through the process, and commented during each step of the procedure--I felt really at ease (as much as one can be having a root canal!), and the outcome was very well. I gave him 5 stars, but the teeth cleaning was good, but not the best I've had. Everything else far exceeded expectations, so I just couldnt strip him of that last coveted star as his assistant did the cleaning. She gets 4, he gets 5. Cleaning aside, the heavy lifting work is what's more important to me (fillings, crowns, cavities) and he's the best. read more

Not only do I hate going to the dentist, but I usually hate my dentists personally. Not so with Dr. Hasse. He pulled a wisdom tooth for me this morning, and I literally did not feel any pain, not even with the novacaine b/c of some vibrating device he has attached to the needle that distracts you. I actually didn't even realize that he had pulled the tooth. He told me that he was all done, and I didn't initally believe him b/c I didn't feel anything. There was absolutely no wait getting into the appointment; the nitrous was fresh and copius; he gave me vikatins right there to take home with me; and he is such a pleasant dude. Personable, friendly, uses antique tools and shows them off. Dig it. I was totally happy with my experience until I discovered that a little enamel had been gouged off two of my front teeth (one top, one bottom)! This after Dr. Hasse congratulated me for not wearing down my enamel by over-brushing. He consulted on a tooth discoloration that happened when an orthodontist moved a tooth too far. He didn't pressure me to bleach it (like the orthodontist in his office did). He respected my level of comfort and we talked about the HEALTH of the tooth, not the appearance of it. He's really great other than what may have been a slip (two slips) of the hand - hell, it MIGHT have even been the hygienist who assisted, but I don't think so. read more

Dr. Hasse is great, been going for a couple of years now, and really like him. He actually does the cleaning, not a tech, which is great! I go in the am before work, but if you work downtown, it's a great location, and he has some Sat appts too! The will validate in the Embarcadero parking garage if you drive there, it's $4/hr. I do wish they had digital x-rays like my last dentist, and a more computerized system for records, but they seem to get things done just fine. read more

I visited Dr Hasse for my second time today. This visit included a cavity filling which is never a pleasant experience (especially when your insurance has decided not to cover the full procedure, but that is beside the point). Dr Hasse made things much more comfortable by explaining exactly what he was doing throughout the process and having attractive assistants to keep your mind off of the drilling In a related review, I would also like to give 5 stars to the Nitric Oxide which was used. Unlucky with teeth, lucky with dentists -- that's me. I was so spoiled by my fabulous dentist in LA that I stuck with him even for the ten-year period I was living in Europe, Asia, and NYC (every yearly trip home included a visit to his office). By the time he retired I was living in SF. Boy, did I dread trying a new dentist! Fortunately my friend Candy -- also from LA and living here now -- knew about Dr. Hasse and suggested I go to him. Super-convenient location, just a couple minutes walk from Embarcadero BART/MUNI. I've seen Dr. Hasse for two or three checkups and one unscheduled repair of a broken crown. He's a wonderful guy, gentle, patient, and exceptionally communicative. He talks almost continuously as he's working on you, but it's not idle chitchat. My last dentist said I had 5 cavities which shocked me as I take very good care of my teeth. I had a terrible experience. This office has a HUGE number of patients and I felt like one of many in a herd of cattle. It was the most impersonal, bizarre dental appointment I have ever experienced. Because physicians never get any kind of dental training, I am always clueless when people ask me about dental issues. Dr. Hasse recently performed a root canal on the hubby after he developed an abscess. Dr. Hasse was patient enough to let me watch the procedure, given my curiosity. Went to Dr. Hasse (pronounced something like Hass-uh, just in case you were wondering) after grubbing around with Yelp to find a good cosmetic dentist to deal with a veneer that came off. I had some initial misgivings because he works in a big office in Embarcadero center where all of the dentists are in little cubicle thingies, but those were quickly dispelled when I realized that this guy is a total maestro. And he didn't make me wait at all. But my very favorite thing about him was that in spite of the fact that it was pretty apparent that my last dentist had skipped a few steps, he didn't engage in the popular dentist pastime of talking smack about the work of my previous dentists. I probably have a cavity in every tooth in my mouth. I've been been to over a dozen dentists in my lifetime and he's the best and so is his dental assistant. I've had two root canals and several cavities and crowns done with him. He took the time to explain the procedure beforehand and he communicated constantly about what he was doing and what I should expect to feel. He's not just a dentist, he's a detail artist! I hadn't been to a dentist in several years and was worried about how this visit was going to go. Based on all the reviews Dr. Hasse looked like the right dentist for the job. I was not disappointed at all. Dr. Hasse examined my teeth and thoroughly explained everything he was looking for and what he was seeing. There were no lectures about my 8 year hiatus or about the importance of flossing. After a thorough exam and cleaning we put together a plan for other procedures that I could have done which included minor repairs and whitening. So far it has gone perfectly to plan. I like him because he is conservative with his recommendations. I had recently come from a dentist who, after my first visit, came up w/ a $1000 treatment plan (after my insurance coverage). Dr. Hasse, to the contrary, said "I don't think you need any work done, not even repairing an old filling, until it is absolutely necessary." He is very thorough, kind, and much more ethical than other dentists I have been to. It seems funny to call a dentist "ethical" but after almost going down an unnecessary road of a lot of frivolous dental work and recommendations that often scared me, I have a great deal of respect for someone who isn't just trying to make a buck. read more

I found Dr. Hasse on Yelp, and was very happy with my visit. I used him as a 2nd opinion, after my dentist (in a different office) was out for the day. The substitute dentist, who had never seen my mouth before, assessed that I had 10 cavities. Um, excuse me??? Considering that I had never had a cavity in my life, I HAD to find someone else to tell me that this dentist was hallucinating (and trying to take me for all of my money)! Sure enough...no cavities. Dr. Hasse has a great bedside manner and walked me through how to read an x-ray so that I could see exactly what he was looking for. He has now become my regular dentist...Looking forward to seeing him again next week for my cleaning! read more

Dr. Hasse is fantastic! After a horrible first visit to a Corte Madera dentist, my husband and I went to Dr. Hasse for a second opinion. My appt was at 8:00, my husbands at 9:00AM. We had driven together from Marin and got there a little before 8:00. They got us both right in. I saw Dr. Lam, my husband saw Dr. Hasse. It was great of them to do that for us (w/o us asking), so that neither of us had to wait around the dentist office. I ended up having a filling replaced. Nitrous is FREE at Dr. Hasse's office, so getting the work done was easy breezy for me. I had two shots and Dr. Lam was gentle, so I hardly felt either of them. My husband, a very anxious dental patient, had a great experience with Dr. Hasse, who explained everything he was doing and had compassion for my husband's anxiety. They were great to work with us on planning out our dental work, so that we get things done by the end of the year for insurance purposes. Super professional, super friendly. Go see Dr. Hasse! I wish I had taken my brother's advice and made my appointment with him a long time ago! (There's a parking garage at Embarcadero Center... it's very expensive, so beware.) read more

I agree with all the reviews for Dr. Hasse. He is absolutely fabulous. I made appt to see him after reading great reviews on yelp. My old dentis is in Fremont and gave me lots of reasons not to go visit since I moved to SF. Anyway, I went to see dr. Hasse yesterday despite a few doubts I had after talking to the receptionist who was not very friendly and kept asking me to see another dentist instead. Dr. Hasse was very encouraging - you know what I meant since going to a dentist is not exactly my idea of fun. He was very meticulous and efficient. Didn't spend much time cleaning my teeth, but result was absolutely great. And the other great thing about his practice is his assistant Yelena. She's such a great lady. Since I told her my teeth are a bit sensitive of cold, she made sure the - whatchamacallit - spray? was spraying warm water. And when it was time for me to rinse, she did the same thing w/ the tap water, adjusting it to warm temperature. Little things, but obviously made me so loved. Bottomline, dr. Hasse and his assistant Yelena is worth a visit! read more
