Allen Kitchen and Bath caused me so many delays and extra surprise costs. Laree is a nice lady, but boy is she scattered, unorganized and forgetful. The first thing she said to me and my husband was "Do you want to buy a business?" I think she has one foot out the door and it shows when you are relying on them to have the details covered. It was not until the time of install (and once they had my downpayment) that all these extra costs and details were missed. BTW, I also went to Granite Direct, Wales, WI to have another top done and it was the easiest process ever (unlike Allen Kitchen). The kicker was when THEY make a mistake, Laree gave me a quote to fix it (which they expected me to pay). Save the pain and frustration and go elsewhere! read more

UPDATE: Our bathroom is finally done! It was quite the rollercoaster to get here but now that it's all said and done, thank God we LOVE the finished product! I still hold the opinion that what should have been a simple bathroom gut and update did not have to be the fiasco it turned into. With a bit of more concise orchestration of scheduling, AK&B could have avoided many of the mishaps we experienced. If it not been for those mishaps, I'd be able to dole out 5 stars easily but for now, I will settle at four stars which is really more like 3.5 to 3.75. I will say thank goodness for our designer who generously held our hands and went the extra mile just about every step of the way. She sold us and we bought into her vision and style. The final product she helped put together is nothing short of exceptional. More than anything we're glad this is over just in time for the Holidays. read more

We had our master suite bathroom remodeled. Our sales representative listened to our vision and help develop it. Offer great opportunities to gives us what we wanted and more! There were many different products to select from for the shower materials, fixtures, flooring and all the trim. Many of the products were in the showroom so I could see it all in person. I appreciated the great number of options provided and confirmation I was making the best choices. The work team communicated with us along the way, and we always knew the details about the progress at all times. They were all great! We love the way the design looks; we value the experience and expertise Allen provide to make it perfect. We wanted quality and we got it. read more

Great company ran by great guys! Highly reccomended to anyone looking for and work related to a bathroom and/or kitchen build of remodel.

Note that the one positive review was very recent, they just got their bathroom done. If I had left my review right after it was finally finished, I might also have given a more positive review as there is a great sense of relief when one's bathroom is finally usable, and yes, it looked good at first. We were first time homeowners when we moved to Milwaukee 15 years ago, we knew we needed work on our 1915 Milwaukee home, but we didn't know better than to take the lowest bid. Allen Kitchen and Bath were terrible, they destroyed our house in the process of remodeling our bathroom. They opened up holes on two floors and took doors and latches off that worked with precision for a century. They saved money by not ventilating properly or using building code waste disposal, spewing dust across the house and poisoning our backyard and our neighbor's property which alone cost a fortune to clean up. They didn't do the remodel that was promised cutting so many corners the end result was a sad echo of what was originally promised, going 3 months over the estimated time to finish. Weeks would go by without any work being done, and it is our only bathroom. They would often leave doors open, we had three cats then, and the remodel went into winter. They threw out period bathroom fixtures, but worst of all they broke the shower pan installing it and yet left it in, left out a necessary layer of waterproofing around the bottom of the shower (so the tile was sitting on a weak porous board only), didn't install the drain pipe in line with the shower drain, weakened the floor to the bathroom (in the early 19th century Milwaukee brick houses had a thick layer of concrete) using a jackhammer INSIDE THE HOUSE, and put in leaky pipes to the shower head and bathtub. The result was heavy damage over the next decade to the dining room below (beautiful 1915 wood trim and shelving built into the walls) where there was one very clever access to the upstairs plumbing that the Allen plumbers never were able to find. The $50,000 remodel led to more than $60,000 over the years in repairs and eventually a good second remodel. The repair work is far from finished, and some of the damage they did is irreparable, more is hidden and will be uncovered over the ensuing years. Learn from my big mistake, before you spend your money on any service, check YELP, the BBB, and Angie's List, in that order. When it comes to plumbing, tiling, and other home remodeling work, be very suspicious if they say they are available right away and can get the job done faster and cheaper than anyone else. read more

This was by far the WORST remodeling experience I have ever had. From start to finish it was terrible. The finished product is terrible and getting a hold of them is next to impossible. The contractor was a no show and ended up getting fired. Project took way longer than expected. There was additional damage to our wood work. It's been 2 years and the remodel is already having problems: Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. read more

We contracted with Allen Kitchen and Bath in July 2015 for work to begin October 5. We were told the work would be done in 4 weeks. We wanted to redo our kitchen and update our bathroom shower so we could put our house on the market for sale in early 2016. Working through persistent problems with them, we finally finished work on the electrical in the kitchen and bathroom shower in February of 2017 -----but only by having to hire other non-associated contractors. Several months ago we put in a demand for reimbursement for our extra expenses and they have not addressed the issue . The firm has a constant change of personnel. But our biggest issues have to do with improper measurements, change of fixtures ordered without informing us before hand, improper electrical wiring and defective workmanship and installation of a new shower enclosure. First the electrical. An outlet was improperly in installed in that when devices were plugged into the wall outlet, a light in the alcove above the kitchen table would start blinking on and off. After some difficulty we got Allen to have the electrician return to fix the problem. He left after a short time saying the problem was fixed--but it was not. We had to get him back still another time (it took us a month) and on this visit he informed us that he no longer works for Allen and that it was going to cost us over $200 to fix the problem, despite us already having paid Allen for the work. We fixed the problem allright-- with another electrician. The shower was another fiasco. Company employees, including the owners' son and our original designer, had been to our house at least 6 times to install and fix, and the company rep for the shower glass company was here 4 times. The problem could never be resolved and we finally contracted with Wisconsin Shower Door to take out the "new" enclosure and replace it. Every time we took a shower, there was substantial water on the floor outside, running into the floor tile grout, requiring at least one replacement of some grout by their carpenter. There were several installation errors noted by Wisconsin Shower Door employees. We are happy to say there is no more leak. We also had problems in the beginning with Allen in that they mismeasured the shower enclosure and showed up with the wrong size glass. It took weeks for the right size to arrive. In the meantime I was to have knee surgery and needed to shower with an antiseptic solution the night before and morning of surgery. Since we had no shower, I had to rent a hotel room for the surgery that was performed in December, 2015. We had told Allen weeks ahead of time of the need to have the shower done before my surgery. They just never had any urgency. They also incorrectly measured the placement of the cabinets, requiring the take down and relocation of the cabinets. That caused inadequate space for dishes in one of the cabinets. And they mismeasured the sink opening and changed the size of the sink, leaving us having to change the size and placement of the faucet. We also had wallpaper removed by Allen in a hallway, which was also to be painted by them. The wallpaper took off some of the plaster and the wall had to be prepped with "mud". They had to come back several times to re- mud and to re-paint. Finally, their in and outs to the outdoors scraped paint in multiple locations on a steel entrance door that was only 5 years old. Attempts to spot paint the scratches on the door was horrendous, requiring the need to purchase a new door, which Allen installed but will not pay for. If there was a ZERO rating available from Yelp for this firm, I would surely grade it as such. read more

Stay away from this company! We have done a lot of remodeling projects over the years and in November 2016, after a lengthy, deliberative process that included multiple bids, we selected Allen for our bathroom remodel. We have never had a more disappointing or frustrating experience with a contractor. From the beginning we told Laree Allen that timing was very important to us, a primary reason for selecting them was that they assured us they coud start the project sooner than other contractors and could complete it in a shorter time frame than other contractors. When we signed our contract we were told that the project would begin in 6 weeks and then take 5 weeks to complete. The week before our project was scheduled to begin we called Allen to confirm that the project would be starting on time. They informed us that the start date would be delayed by 4 weeks. I doubt they would have informed us of this delay if we hadn't called them. So, right from the start we had a 4 week delay, our project wouldn't be starting until the week it should have been finishing. Once it did start, 4 weeks late, workers didn't seem to have a clue what needed to be done. In our first conversation with the carpenter he told us that another customer was upset with him because he was taking so long to finish her project and he tried to talk us out of the pocket door that was part of our design because he said it was not going to work. We told him, "It was designed by your office with a pocket door we told him, it better work." On the first day of our project, during demo of the bathroom, a wet wall was discovered that needed time to dry. The carpenter told us that he would check back in a few days to see how things were progressing. We did not hear back from him for an entire week. The walls dried relatively quickly but they put the whole project on hold for that week even though there was additional work that could have been done in the bathroom away from the wet wall-finishing demo and beginning construction on other walls. Another week delay. When the electrician arrived we were told that there was going to be an additional charge to move some of the circuits which were all things that were covered in our original estimate from Allen. When we protested, they came in with another electrician to review the situation and then did change electricians and did not add any costs, but again, this cost us several more days in the project timeline. They also changed carpenters at this time as well. As the project was nearing what should have been completion, we were informed that Allen failed to order a transition piece for the shower walls that were scheduled to be installed. This caused another week-plus delay. Then, when the project was ready for counters & other solid surface pieces that were ready to be installed, those were not ready when needed causing more delays. All the delays were blamed on the wet wall initially discovered even though the project was in a position to be completed within 5 weeks of starting, but pieces needed to complete the project were not ordered in a timely fashion by Allen. A project that should have been completed on January 20th was not completed until March 10th. read more

If I could rate this business lower than one star I would. Their subcontractor installed a defective kitchen counter and they have not made it right. The project manager didn't even come out to inspect the installation or issue. Stay away from them. read more

Used AK& B to remodel a tub/shower to have a full length shower installed. The number of times they had to come back to complete one step at a time was crazy (I feel as if I should have charged them per trip as I had to always be available). The design the suggested was very sleek and I did like the solid surface walls/floor however they suggested the Kohler Levity sliding shower door (so yes Kohler great products right? ... was it the install or bad design?) based on its sleek look however the door does not close flush on the side where the shower head it and water splashes out (they had to put a plastic strip on it to block the splashing which make it look cheap and doesn't even seal the side and water still gets out). If that wasn't bad enough the door/floor has a gap and also allows water to get on the floor....was the floor not designed/made correctly to seal the gap with the door --- who knows. They offered to come back AGAIN (probably 12 times on this small project) but it's been two weeks and nothing. Beware! read more

We used Allen Kitchen & Bath in 2014, and I would not recommend them to anyone. We hired them for a big remodeling project which included our kitchen, powder room, laundry room, and foyer. They did it all: flooring, kitchen cabinets and counters, laundry room cabinets and drop zone, powder room overhaul, new wood trim and six-panel doors throughout. They quoted us an 8 week turn around time, but it turned into 5 months. I'm sure no kitchen remodel is easy or painless, but ours was fraught with delays, lack of communication, pricing issues, personnel issues with the crew, etc. By the end of the project, we just wanted them out of our home. Fast forward to today (2.5 years after completion): Positive things: We do like the new layout of the kitchen, which Laree designed. I will give her credit for that. Negative things: They installed Mannington Adura Vinyl Tiles. They told us it was very durable and wouldn't scratch. Wrong. It has many scratches. The grout between the tiles is cracked in many places. (This I consider a workmanship issue.) They installed a backsplash, and the grout there is cracked in many places. (Again a workmanship issue.) All this grout has been cracked for a long time... I think it started a few months after the job was complete, and I just keep noticing it more and more. They installed under cabinet lighting, and we have had issues with that. We've had to call them back for it. (Again, a workmanship issue). We have remodeled a bathroom and our family room since then, and we've found contractors who are professional, have attention to detail, and are upfront with their pricing. There are good contractors out there! Unfortunately, I don't think Allen is one of them. read more
