Went to Lavish salon for the "curly haircut". Sabrina was so sweet. She took the time to explain…read moreeverything to me, step by step. Everything she was doing and why, and every product she used and it's benefits. Although I left with my hair about 4 inches shorter than I would have preferred, my curls are shiny and healthy with the curliest spirals and full of bounce. The salon itself was clean and decorated well. Staff was pleasant. I was offered a water bottle while I sat under the dryer. I will be back based on the location, prices, and staff. But this time I'll be sure to voice better that I want my hair LONG and not short!

During the appointment, the hair dryer was so hot that it burned my daughter's ears. My daughter is extremely shy and tends not to speak up when something hurts or makes her uncomfortable. She didn't say anything while we were there, but after we left, she burst into tears, and that was when I realized her ears had been burned. I did not bring it to the salon's attention because we had already left when I became aware of what had happened. Despite that experience, I decided to give the salon another chance and brought her in to have braids done by the owner. From the moment we arrived, we felt unwelcome. She did not introduce herself, and when she asked what we wanted, her facial expression and attitude immediately made us feel like we were bothering her. We wanted braids that formed into buns, but because of the attitude we received from the jump, I was honestly afraid to even ask for any type of intricate braiding design. I already felt uncomfortable asking for anything beyond something simple. My daughter was in tears throughout the appointment. I asked her what was wrong and specifically informed the stylist that she is tender-headed. I then sat there watching her rip through my daughter's fine, curly hair with a small rat tail comb, pulling through knots rather than gently detangling them. It caused so much breakage. While doing this, she proceeded to tell me that my daughter "didn't have curly hair," all while combing through her curls in a way that seemed to create even more tangles. I was also left standing there for about five minutes before another employee - not the owner - came over and offered me somewhere to sit. The actual braiding took roughly 10 minutes and felt incredibly rushed. There was no attention to detail, and it felt like she was speeding through my daughter's hair because we were a burden and she wanted us out of her chair. After seeing my daughter in tears, you would think she would take a gentler approach. We paid $80 plus a tip for a hairstyle that does not look professionally done and an experience that once again ended with my daughter in tears. What bothers me most isn't even the money. It's that I gave this salon a second chance after what happened during her first visit, only for my daughter to have another upsetting experience. A child should be able to sit in a salon chair and feel comfortable, cared for, and safe.

I've tried a few different places before, but this is definitely the best place I've found in Rhode Island for Asian men's haircuts. They really understand Asian hair and always know how to make the haircut look clean and natural. The service is great, everyone is friendly, and the prices are very reasonable for the quality you get. I've been consistently coming back here and have always had a great experience. Highly recommend V Salon, especially for Asian guys looking for a reliable place to get a good haircut in Rhode Island.

I went in and no one was there and the place was pretty grim- dirty and unorganized and with old fixtures. I should have walked out, but I was desperate for a haircut before a trip and had no time to book somewhere else. The same young man who had been outside smoking came in and he was my "stylist!" He was a nice young man and he washed my hair and proceeded to cut it based on a photo I showed him of a medium length lob. It was a little poufy when he was done, but looked okay. I was shocked at how little he charged me- about half what I would have paid anywhere else. However, after I've washed it myself and tried to style it, I have come to realize that it was a pretty poor cut overall. I won't go back and could not recommend it unless you have a very limited budget.

TLDR: Hair cut and color not as discussed, stylist Kate was very dismissive of my concerns and…read morewaived me off to pay and leave. A little over a week ago, I went in for a consultation. I said I wanted the following: -A layered haircut to trim the dead ends (I already had layers but they were very grown out) and bangs that blended into my hair on the sides. -A multidimensional color (multiple colors) similar to my natural color, with COMPLETE grey coverage. Kate looked at my hair and recommended three DISTINCT colors for the three dimensions of color in my hair, one a dirty blonde, one a medium brown, and one a dark brown (all cool toned). We then booked at the front desk for the appointment. I was surprised to learn she had multiple availabilities for a long appointment, which apparently I should have clocked as a red flag then. I asked for confirmation on the appointment duration and she said 3.5 hours - I expressed surprise and emphasized my hair was very thick and it has taken longer in the past, and she said she would "book the haircut separately just in case so we have more time". I arrive the day I booked it a bit early and she seats me immediately. I make some small talk but it's clear she doesn't feel chatty, which was fine. As the hair color proceeds, I notice that she is bleaching some sections but not coloring anything, which I figure is because we're in step one. This step takes 2 hours by itself. She washes it out, and I ask her to walk me through the steps we will be doing next. She simply states "toner and wash" which I figure is the next step only and not the last step. She "tones" my hair all over, washes it out, and then does the cut. I figure she knows better than me and it may look different dry as colors often do, so I wait. My hair was multicolored brown/blonde when I came in, so maybe it will turn into three colors. She dries my hair and cuts the bangs. I repeatedly asked for shorter bangs and for her to fix them because random hair was longer and I couldn't see with it getting in my eyes, and she fussed with the bangs enough to make them "even" and just gave up with them still too long (I asked for at or above my eyebrows, these are basically 1/3 down into my eye). I express the color is all one color (which is none of the colors we discussed) and she shrugged and said "it's demi color; it will wash out and become lighter" (???) I express again this isn't what we discussed and the bangs were too long, and she simply said "I'll meet you at the front I have my next customer" (at this point we are 5 hours in to the "3.5 hour" appointment). Flabbergasted, I simply pay at the front and leave. Outside I get better lighting - and yup; all one color - except THE GREY SHE DID NOT COVER. Honestly very disappointed with the color service and cut, and the dismissive response to me expressing my concerns. I will not be back and recommend no one else make the same mistake I did visiting their "blonding specialist" Kate.

But if you are looking for experience, technique and a haircut you'll love within a budget this is definitely the place for you! I have really LONG hair and Scott took the time to hear my concerns and wants. I grow my hair to donate, so needed it cleaned up, but to keep as much length as possible for now. He trimmed, layered and made it look like i hadn't been neglecting it for months.. haha He took extra care with drying it so I wouldn't freeze in the subzero temps. I plan to go back to him for my big chop in the summer and will post pictures then!!

I believe the Gentleman's name was Steve, I didn't quite catch it but wow did he do a great job. I have difficult hair, it's very soft, fine and there's a lot of it. Cut it wrong and it sticks up in 15 different places. For once I don't have to use product to glue everything into a shape. One of the worst parts about moving to a new area for me is finding a barber, and the best one in the area in my eyes works here (he's obviously not a barber, he's a hair stylist 100%, but you get what I'm trying to say). When it came time to pay, I asked what the damage was, and he said "$27." I was expecting at least 50 if not 100+, obviously left a 150% tip. I'll be back for sure... Thanks again, you did an incredible job, definitely setting the bar high. If there are any dudes out there reading this in a similar debacle suck it up and give it a try... See you in a few weeks
