We rented hybrid bikes from Allegro for a ride out to the south end wineries. The online process was clear and I knew exactly what I was renting. The bikes were ready as we arrived - good quality and well maintained. They checked the tire levels, gear, etc. before we hit the road which made me feel good. Bikes have a water bottle holder and helmets and locks came with the ride. Their website has a great variety of rides for all levels - we went with a 21 miler and took one stop for wine tasting. We were in bike lanes or on roads with big shoulders or no traffic the whole time with almost no elevation - that was a treat for us Seattle riders. Drop off was as easy as rolling up to the service entrance and letting them take the bikes in. We'd definitely rent from here again! read more

Update: My husband and our boy go in to get the replacement bike that was finally ready, and apparently the message wasn't shared with any employees that our son was to pick out a free helmet (oh weird, still didn't learn from the lack of communication they operate with) and the dude rolled the bike outside and sent my husband and kid on their way without so much as an 'F you.' And of course neither of the owners were around and when my husband tried to call nobody answered. So much for wanting to "make it right" Tourists, don't be fooled, these people operate very poorly. Take your business to Bicycle Barn. We ordered and paid for a bicycle for our son with our son's own money. It arrived at Allegro and they sold it. We had told them we ordered it from the manufacturer. They went on vacation and failed to relay that message to their employees. When the bike was delivered, they sold it. They say they ordered a replacement -- great. That's time our son could be spent riding RIGHT NOW had they not been so careless. So they ordered a new bike for him at their cost price, after they sold it for list price, and call it a wash if they throw in a free helmet. They also claim they're so mortified and have lost sleep over it and just want to make it right. Glad our boy is still getting the bike he paid for, and we will save face and use this as a learning experience for him, but they could have done better. We will take our business elsewhere in the future. read more

Several weeks after finding a passion for riding, I went to Allegro with the intent of purchasing a bicycle to fill that need. There need to be more places that take customer service as seriously as Michael and Kathryn do. They shared some recommendations, as well as guided me to a bicycle that actually fits my 5'6" size. Even though I had money to purchase an even more expensive bicycle, they recommended one that they felt would best meet my needs. And now when I walk in, they greet me by name. I have ended up making many more purchases. It is in a great downtown location just a few blocks from my office. READ THIS REVIEW TO SAVE YOUR TIME, ENERGY, AND MONEY TLDR: horrible, horrible customer service for bike rentals What started as a lovely day of renting bikes to go wine tasting in Walla Walla turned sour quickly. The ride started off normal, but once we got to our first winery, 10 miles out of town, we noticed that one of the bike tires was a little low in air. We figured the shop forgot to fill this one tire up and felt it was still rideable. We enjoyed our time, then headed to the next winery down the road. After a few hours at our second stop, we came back to our bikes and noticed the tire was completely flat and seemed not safe to ride. We decided to call the shop assuming they would have a protocol in place, or at least advice. When we explained to the owner of the shop that this bike was unsafe to ride, he responded with "I'm not sure what to do for you. There's only 2 of us in the shop so we cannot come get you" We understood and asked what else he suggested we do, and he said to try to "limp it back" ...10 miles... We got down the driveway and the entire tire was falling off. We called again and was met with the same response of "I'm not sure what to do" we asked if there were Ubers and he replied "I am not sure, I am not technologically savvy, but you can look and hopefully that works out!" We were pretty shocked that an owner of a rental bike shop did not have a protocol for what to do when a renter gets a flat tire. But, thank goodness we found the only Uber in Walla Walla as we were 10 miles outside of downtown and visitors. Our Uber driver graciously helps to fit BOTH bikes in his car and takes us back to the shop. When we entered the shop we were greeted with immediate rudeness, dismissal, and a "not my problem" attitude. When I asked if there was a possibility of a refund for the bikes and reimbursement for the Uber, the shop owner laughed in my face and said "it's not my fault you got a flat tire". As a customer, I did my part in the situation to get these bikes and ourselves back safely to the shop. Our day was cut short and we also had to pay for an Uber. I understand it is not the bike shops fault, however these are expenses that you incur when you decide to own a business that rents bikes. No apology, complete disrespect and rudeness. And they only (finally) offered a partial refund and no money for the Uber. When we told other local businesses about our experience they all had similar stories of HORRIBLE customer service. Seems to me that a bike enthusiast decided to open a shop one day with zero clue on customer service or how to run a business. read more

As a new cyclist in town, I went into the shop today for the first time needing a helmet and lock, and am so pleased with my experience from beginning to end. Kathryn was incredibly helpful, knowledgeable, and attentive to my needs. She took great care to help fit me into a helmet and sell me a lock that fit my needs--lightweight yet very reliable and easy to wrap on my bike. I can't wait to get back on the trail; I asked for recommendations on long trails and love that Kathryn gave me a map and took the time to recommend different routes. This is a great shop located in downtown Walla Walla. My husband and I wanted to rent bikes to visit a couple of wineries and their online process made everything super easy. Our bikes were ready when we arrived and were in great condition. Everyone that worked there was super friendly and helped us find the best route for what we were targeting for the day. I got a flat tire about 5 miles from the shop on our way home and they were nice enough to come fix it quickly so we could finish our ride. Fantastic service and bikes!!! read more

I live in Oregon. The lame birds at The Mountain Works in La Grande serviced my Specialized Mtn. Bike to get it ready to go on vacation. It had never given me one speck of trouble from the time I bought it. You know the old adage an ounce of prevention and all that jazz. I got it back from those boobs and the chain came off and it quit shifting into high range. Had the same experience couple years ago with their incompetent work. Once bitten twice shy right. I'm a slow learn'in palooka I guess. Don't ever let them put their mitts on your bike! I got on the ameche to these cats at Allegro Cyclery in Walla Walla and they said bring it. It might just be the derailleur has to be adjusted. So I did. Ended up not just the derailleur had been mal adjusted, the cables had not been lubed, and a number of other things had not been attended to. Bottom line, these guys fixed what The Mountain Works screwed up and took care of other problems and potential problems. When I picked the bike up they suggested place for a ride and gave me a map for free. NOW THAT'S WHAT A MUG CALLS GREAT SERVICE! And by the way, the bike works flawlessly. These guys are no joke. They're polite, friendly and professional. They have lots of stuff in their joint. BOTTOM LINE - Do your bike business HERE! read more

After a tune up my brakes were still a little squeaky, but they told me to bring it in immediately and they got it on the stand and fixed it and had it back to me within an hour- free of charge. Well, having visited enough bike shops in Seattle, I had to resist taking my 9mm Glock, Bowie knife, brass knuckles and an NRA attitude with me when I decided to visit this shop. I knew for sure that my invisibility cloak, which works fabulously in Seattle would likely work here. I just knew a surly sneering out of work PhD would come over and try to humiliate me for having the temerity to enter the store and ask a question about a bicycle. I was waiting for the staff to avow any knowledge of a thing called a touring bike, a rather famous and fickle delusion of bike riders over 50 years old. Their false memories of 'touring bicycles' has caused more hipster consternation than a broiled steak at a vegan meeting(meaning the bike repair shop). And, I knew I would surely want to gouge my eyes out after being subjected to hideous tattoos of all sorts of false Romanaticism and faux tribal tripe. And goddam if the folks were not nice as pie and normal as all get out! Bravo for the customer service, the chit chat, and for not chiding us for not riding when it was 20 degrees F outside. Allegro is a great bike shop, especially for a town the size of Walla Walla. Allegro reminds me of many upscale bike shops I've been to in Portland or Seattle. The store stocks a surprising amount of merchandise relative to their size, and the staff is quite friendly. The owner is an enthusiastic rider who is willing to help you get to know the area via bike. Allegro has a great relationship with the Whitman Cycling team, which is cool. Prices can be a little steep sometimes, but the accessibility of their location makes Allegro a sure choice for me over Bicycle Barn or other competitors. read more

We seemed to be a novelty when riding to each vineyard, but we were happy to get in some exercise in between tastes. The ride to the south side was easy and very scenic. Pretty amazing to have Allegro in Walla Walla, they are a class act. I'm an avid cyclist from Seattle, and am quite familiar with being in bike shops. Returns are always difficult at most bike shops, but I had a great experience at Allegro today. Bought a pump from them recently, and had the head shear off while pumping up a tire today. I didn't save my receipt, but they had no problem exchanging my broken pump for a brand new one. The whole transaction took less than 30 seconds. Also been to Allegro a few times in the past, and they are always friendly and fun to carry on a conversation with. Highly recommended. read more
