Alleghany Optical is the absolute worst lab ever. A picture is worth a thousand words... I ordered my prescription in tinted lenses. After paying them almost $600 upon placing the order the first pair was 3 weeks being made due to lab problems. I returned them for major tinting problems. The replacements came in 2 weeks. I returned those due to a major error in the optics (they didn't get the prescription matched and I couldn't see at all with them). 2 more weeks later I returned to the store to pickup the pair you see in the photo linked above. This has been the worst experience with any eye doctor/lab I've ever heard of. Negative reviews are all over the Internet on these people, I wish I had thought to look before. One star is too good for these thieves. read more

This is the worst place in the world. I called to schedule an appointment and was told if I make it before 11:30 that i could be seen. I called to see where this place was at 11:27am. And was told that she is doing my paperwork. When I walked in at 11:29am some other lady said that I could not be seen today. Even though I was just talking with a team member and was told I was being check in as we speak and paperwork was being done. Only to be told that I was not able to be seen. I felt like that this was highly unprofessional and very inconvenient. Due to my experience for my first time coming there I am very displeased with the level of professionalism. To say that this place is harrible is an understatement. I hope that they learn from this experience and how to treat a first time customer in the feature. I will not be recommending this facility to any of my friends and family. Customer service needs to be corrected before this place should be allowed to see any more customers. read more

The ONLY reason they have a 3 star rating from me is because the doctors are fantastic. The front desk staff leaves aLOT to be desired. They can be rather rude on the phone, and they never really seem to know what's going on. I had an eye exam in January 2014 for glasses only. At the beginning of the month, I decided to also get fitted for contact lenses. I went in for my appointment, and they were trying to tell me I couldn't get the eye exam under my insurance because I had one in January - I had to explain to them for the third time that my insurance changed and I was able to have the additional exam. My lenses are specialty, they always have been (yay, horrible vision.) I was told I would receive a call when they came in. I realized a day after (my appointment was on a Saturday) that I needed to update my phone number with them. I called them that Monday morning and let them know I needed to update my number so I could be called when my lenses came in. The woman said okay, put me on hold for five minutes, and came back to tell me they weren't in yet and would take about a week. I explained AGAIN that all I needed to do was update my phone number. "Oh." She took the number and said it was updated. I called a week later after no phone call and was told they were in, but I would need to come in for the doctor to look at them in my eyes. I made the appointment and went in on that day. This one girl (the one who was supposed to update my number, and then originally told me my lenses weren't in when I arrived for my appointment to have them actually checked by the doctor) apparently finds my name impossible. She always mispronounces it and misspells it despite me spelling it for her multiple times in a conversation. It took her almost 15 minutes to track down my lenses because me spelling my name (which really isn't crazy) 4 times wasn't enough. The doctor wasn't happy with the fit of the right eye, so he told me a new one would be ordered and I would be called when it came in. It's been a week, and again with no phone call. So I called to check the status of it. The woman who answered told me the doctor never said he was going to order a new one. When I corrected her, she said she would talk to the doctor and call me back. She recited the phone number to call me on - They STILL had my old number in the system. I corrected it with them AGAIN. Needless to say, I just got a call a few minutes ago that a new lens HAD been ordered, and should be in today. All of this for a pair of contact lenses. I don't fault the doctors at all. They're great. But they really need to get smarter front office staff. read more

This place is horrible since My Eye Dr took over!!!! It took them 4 visits and 4 months to get my glasses correct, now my daughter just got ripped off because they were trying to upsell her to more expensive contacts!! What cost less than $50 under Alleghany suddenly turned into $200 for the upsell to so-called "better" ones. That's AFTER they applied my insurance!! When I went in to have them cancel the contacts the manager tried to tell me that they don't upsell...Really? I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have tried that garbage if I had been with my daughter during the visit! I will be taking my family somewhere else and telling everyone I know to do the same! read more

Absolutely horrible business won't let a person order contacts 14 months after a exam. Then they charge a made up $115 fitting fee for contacts didn't do anything different than a normal eye exam. I will be ordering online from now on and finding a new eye dr for checkup. Some of the office staff is rude when you ask a question. read more

VERY VERY RUDE WOMEN WORKING THERE!!! My girlfriend and I had appointment and the lady was snippy with my gf right away!The woman said DIDN'T YOU GET YOUR VOICEMAIL? my gf said i talked to them yesterday,The woman said BUT DID YOU GET THE VOICEMAIL in a not so nice tone. The woman said i needed a form from my employer I nicely explained to her that i didn't have to have one the last time I was there and my employer said I didnt need one this time.Another woman spoke up and WE ALWAYS NEED forms from employers.I said nicely again I didn't have to last time,she literally went and pulled out a book and came to me and said IN OUR CONTRACT!! I said in a not so voice I dont care about your contract I was telling you I never needed a form!! i WISH i WOULD OF THOUGHT ABOUT IT because I would of said pull up my fill because I NEVER brought a file in!! The lady said Im calling security....I said go right ahead because my gf and I are leaving since you dont know how to show either of us respect!! I will Never go to another Allegheny optical and give them my hard earned money and to be treated very very rudely! I wish I would of read all the negative responses on her before I even wasted my time!!! Your loss of two customers because of your nasty attitudes at Allegheny optical !! read more

Consider your options and shop around. Allegany Optical used to be a good , ethical business but not anymore. Not only do they charge overly inflated prices for their products (versus their competition), they will look for loopholes in your insurance coverage to hook you with extra charges & double talk to cover themselves. I unfortunately found out the hard way, so I give you fair warning. read more

I went to this location to get my glasses loosened, because a sore was forming on my ear. The lady loosened them, however she left them crooked. When I tried to tell her that, she dismissed my thought and assured me they were not. I have worn glasses for 12 years, so I think I would be able to notice if they were crooked. As the weekend passed, they got looser and it was more evident that they were crooked, so I went back. The lady this time took my glasses back to attempt to fix them at least 3 times. One time when she came out, they were so right I could not get the on my face completely. I was running late and could not wait any longer for her to attempt. Needless to say, I had to leave with my glasses still crooked and not tighther than before. Thank goodness my prescription barely changed and I can wear my old glasses. I wa very dissatisfied with the service I recieved. read more

If your looking to get your glasses quick, think again. There local maker of glasses closed down do to the conversion with myeyedr. All of their eye glass prescription orders are now going to North Carolina to be made. Sow when they tell you 5 to 7 business days to get your glasses, they really mean two to three weeks. I am on the beginning of my third week waiting and have still heard nothing. Classic bait and switch, 5 to 7 days but when we have your money in the bank its now three weeks "oops sorry". I recommend checking your options before going here. read more
