We were poached off the sidewalk by one of the waiters to come here-which normally isn't how I decide on a restaurant but, seeing as we had already been tempted to come here earlier in the day because it's located along a quiet canal with cute Murano-looking orange lamps lining the tables, we took the bait. (Also this place was super close to our hotel and we were starving.)
Good news is we were pleasantly surprised by how much we enjoyed Alla Conchiglia. The staff was friendly and quick to joke around (in a good way), and perfectly attentive to us throughout. And more importantly-the food was pretty solid. I ordered the cuttlefish in its own ink, which is entirely outside of my normal wheel house but I figure when in Venice... thankfully, I was not let down. It tasted super fresh and delicious, and if I didn't think too hard about what it was I would even order it again. My partner ordered an arugula pesto dish that was equally delicious. Throw in some solid house wine (when in Italy you can never go wrong with the house wine), a small salad, a free aperitif and a very creamy tiramisu to top it all off and you have two happy customers.
Also, again, the location really can't be beat-it's a ton of fun to watch the gondolas, water taxis and fish(!) go by on the canal while you eat. read more
