Communication throughout the entire process was quick and easy by phone, text, and email. The crew did a fantastic job pruning, shaping, removing trees and shrubs, and handling several stumps. The stump removal especially stood out; where grinding wasn't possible, they dug them out and restored the areas so well that you could barely tell the ground had been disturbed. Cleanup was equally impressive; despite the amount of work completed, they left the property spotless. My furnace stopped working a few weeks ago. A tech was sent out to determine the cause and provide next steps. All she said to my wife was the unit was 31 years old and needed replacing: no explanation of the actual problem. I called another contractor and he explained the problem in detail and provided us with a clear plan of action. He also pointed out that the unit was emitting CO - this was not caught by KH&C. I have worked with KH&C for a few years and gave them the benefit of the doubt. I signed a quote for a new furnace to be installed. Installers came and rushed through the install as they "had a busy schedule" according to them. They tried to leave without testing the Aprilaire albeit I was assured they would prior to the install. I called the office and they sent the estimator out to look at it. He provided quotes for repair or replacement. We opted to replace and the same installer came out to do the work a few days later. Once again, rushed through the install and left hurriedly. It is at this time that I wondered if I had made a mistake to hire them. Six weeks passed, turned on the AC and I had puddles near the furnace. I called into the dispatcher and thoroughly explained the issue. She uttered the words "Warranty Labor" and led me to believe this call would be covered. Two young techs come out, they went through the unit carefully and determined "sludge" from the AC plugged the line inside the furnace causing the water issue. They cleaned the lines and then the Service Manager (Alex) charged me $75. I provided the back story of the install and asked him to reconsider waiving. He said no and I asked if he would be comfortable to lose a customer for $75? He said "Yes". I paid the $75 and thanked the techs for their work. And today will be the last time KH&C will darken my doorstep.

Let me start by saying that I am a single female and know very little about HVAC systems. When the weather cooled down again, I turned it back on, but although it sounded like it was running, the flame never lit and the zone in my home that included my bedroom never warmed up. I called the company that originally installed my furnace, and when the technician came out to my house, he told me within 10 minutes that I needed a brand-new furnace and air conditioning unit--for around $20,000! I was shocked. After telling a friend about the situation, she recommended that I get a second opinion from Leo at LTD Heating and Cooling in Round Lake. I am SO glad I did. Leo, the owner, arrived on time and thoroughly inspected my furnace. He explained everything clearly and in detail, and you could immediately tell that he genuinely loves what he does. He was surprised that the previous technician hadn't even reconnected my furnace properly, as there were wires left disconnected inside the unit. After spending a couple of hours carefully inspecting every part of the furnace and using professional diagnostic tools (which the previous technician never used), Leo discovered that the issue was simply a condensation backup that was preventing the pilot light from turning on for safety reasons. He cleaned out the drain pipes, removed the water buildup, reassembled everything, and my furnace has been working perfectly ever since! Best of all, Leo honestly told me that I did NOT need a new furnace, and he couldn't understand why the other company was trying to sell me a new air conditioning unit when that system was working just fine too.
