Let me start by saying I was a "Youtube" educated lumberjack. This was fine for smaller buckthorn etc. I have had them out to cut dead Ash and Buckthorn. They were very professional and extremely thorough. They charge accordingly and more than earned it. What else can I say but I reccommend them highly. read more

We love these guys! They came in and took down our whole forest of trees in our backyard in less than a few hours. They were amazing people to work with and went above and beyond offering to trim up the neighbors trees that were coming into our yard too. Al and his team were a pleasure to work with. They took three trees (all next to my house) in a matter of hours. The stumps were ground down and prepped for sod. They cleaned up all the wood chips. There was no damage to my lawn or property. I can't recommend Al/Rivas enough. I told my neighbor that I wish every company I hired was as professional as Rivas. Also, I'm surprised to read that they didn't get back to a couple people. They returned my call in minutes, and they were at my house the next day because it was urgent. read more

We chose Rivas tree service after getting three estimates, comparing prices, availability, and ease of communication. No pressure selling which is a big plus. Al and his team did a phenomenal job- were easy to work with, had reasonable prices, and knew what they were doing with trees. Where do you get that?! They took down two large oak trees, they chopped up a fallen tree into a cord of firewood for us, pruned and shaped two more trees, and did efficient clean up. They did it all in three hours in the middle of winter with snow on the ground and everything. Liz in the office called the day before and set up a time to come. They came a bit earlier than planned but it worked out fine. Al is responsive, quick, respectful and courteous. It was a good experience all the way around. Would go back to them anytime! read more

I had two trees removed and five trees pruned by Rivas and his crew. The quote was reasonable and they yard was left immaculate. No garbage, no branches, no waste. Rivas removed a huge dead oak from in front of my house. They came out quickly were great and especially careful. They did it all climbing and with rope and pulleys. Tis could have been a disaster since it was only about 10 feet from my house. They did not even disrupt the Hostas around the base. they were great and reasonable and left no mess. They did better than expected. I live in Highland Park IL. Do not know why this shows me in California. read more

There's so many choices to choose from when it comes to cutting trees. But the question is are they reliable, insured, and reasonably priced. Rest assured Rivas is all 3. I'm extremely disappointed with this company. Like many have noted in other reviews, they're truly the worst at returning calls and basic customer service. It's gotten to the level that I have left messages for the owner, Al, to call me back and have never heard from him. This is a small family company and not a fortune 500, so this is truly the disappointing part. This all starts months ago, when I requested a quote. Someone called me to tell me they could only come early, rushed me out of what I was doing and then proceeded to show up late. A very frustrating start. I had to unfortunately put this project on the back burner due to personal circumstances and local ordinances. I've since made dozens of attempts to contact the business and get a copy of the quote provided. It's been about a month and the most I've gotten is a promise that someone will call me. That's maybe happened once, with a promise that they'd get me a quote, which ultimately hasn't happened. I've tried to request that the owner call me due to these difficulties and can never get him. This has unfortunately put me in a tough situation and led to this review. The most basic thing a business can do is communicate with customers and basic customer service. Unfortunately this business has been absolutely terrible at it and from reading other reviews, it's a pattern. They've taken a likely customer and made it into a truly negative experience. read more

I never thought I would be so excited about a tree service company, but I am! We had 3 trees that needed to be removed and two that needed to be trimmed back quite a bit. After doing my due diligence by getting multiple quotes I decided to go with Rivas primarily because Al Rivas (owner) did a good job explaining what he was going to do and how exactly he planned on doing it. Let me back up. I just purchased a home and had three issues. I needed a pine tree in my front yard trimmed because some of the branches were hanging over my garage, I needed a large Honey Locus trimmed back because it had branches hanging over my house causing moss to grow on the cedar shake shingles, and I needed a large Oak tree taken down because it was about dead and hanging over a playset. Al showed up with five other guys and completely moved the playset so that it would not get damaged and trimming and removed the Oak tree with minimal damage to my lawn. The main logs they left on my front lawn were picked up within an hour. Overall they did a great job and I would recommend they to others. read more

I have to pretty much echo Garry R.'s and Andrea R.'s reviews. Nine big trees removed plus a large tree limb sitting on a cable wire. They also ground up a couple of stumps leftover from prior tree removals. If it wasn't for the ground up stump mulch left behind (customary), you would never have known that Rivas - and the trees - were ever there to begin with. And the price was more reasonable than the other companies we contacted for estimates. Usually a lower estimate means a lesser quality but not in this case. Very satisfied. read more

Wonderful recommendation. Cut down an enormous Oak tree. They accommodated my schedule by coming out within a few days. They probably would have come sooner if it hadn't rained. Al and Liz were pleasant and very responsible. Al who is certified in this field, led the efficient, careful and amazing crew. We watched in amazement and they choreographed the removal. It was a huge tree next to my house and my neighbors and they removed it with no harm to the surroundings. I would recommend them without any reservations. Shortly after I moved into my wooded lot, I contracted with Rivas Tree Service for some major tree removal and trimming. A number of the trees that needed to be taken down were within 10 feet of the house and in two cases leaning over the roof of our home. The morning of the job, the owner (Al) and his crew arrived on time and began the job. Unbelievable - they were like a synchronized swim team with all six people working in unison to begin to take the trees down. The trees were easily 70 feet high and there wasn't so much as a branch that fell on the roof. Everything was done safety; on time; and exactly as agreed. Al was an absolute pleasure to work with throughout the day and was very accommodating with a couple of last minute requests. We subsequently had him back to do some additional work and were just as pleased the second time. A consummate professional - so much so that two of our neighbors also contracted with Rivas. They moved everything before trimming so it wouldn't get damaged. Afterwards they moved everything back and did an excellent job of cleaning my yard and my neighbors. Al and his team of busy bee workers are the best! We needed a tree stumped, a 50ft. pine taken down, a maple thinned and a pear tree fixed after a winter storm broke half of its branches. They did a fabulous job and there wasn't any evidence that they were here - besides our trees looking fine!! They are efficient - only 1.5 hours to do all of our work and they cleaned up everything! Unreliable - wasted weeks waiting for Al Rivas to do work. Finally had someone else do the job. Background: Estimate given by Al on 7/18/2015 with discussion to do work in the fall. Called him Wed 9/9/2015 after Labor Day to do the job. He left me phone message later in week to sign his contract and return. I signed it with "work to be completed by 10/9/2015" and mailed it to him Mon 9/14/15. Included request he call to schedule so I would be home when the work was done. Never heard from him. Called him Thurs 10/1/2015 and left message. He did not call back. Called him Mon 10/5/2015 and said the contract stated the work was to be done by 10/9/2015 and to call me. He did call later that day and said he would do the work the next Tues (10/13/2015) or Friday (10/16/2015) and he would call me later in week (i.e. by 10/10/2015) to firm up time. Never heard from him later in the week. Never heard from him on Tues 10/13/2015 or Friday 10/16/2015. I called another company and they did the job. In all fairness, Al did finally call on Mon 10/19/2015 and wanted to know if I was going to be home that day. As stated, told him I had given the job to someone else. Wish I had called the other company from the get-go. Would have saved both time and energy not to mention re-arranging schedules for someone who never showed up. read more
