Unfortunately, this poor review is deserved. This is the local card shop in my neighborhood and at 54, I have been collecting football cards my entire life and love the hobby. I read all the great reviews and have a collection spanning from cards from 50's to 2,000's...I life long collection of some 30k cards. I was looking to gauge interest in selling cards that were worthy. Some worth a lot and some worth nothing, I spoke with the owner and he seemed very friendly and accommodating. He introduced me to Craig, the buyer...Craig made me feel like I was just wasting his time, asked me to sort out the good stuff, including some key rookies like my Walter Payton Montana, Elway etc. And schedule an appointment last week. I was fine with that and understood. I also have a newer collection of premium game used and auto cards that you wouldn't believe unless you see them in person. I didn't have any expectations other than to have some time to sit down in person and show what I have. Make a new friend in the hobby. Anyways, I did just that, spent hours sorting my best cards for an initial visit, and called multiple times, left a message and even spoke with the owner who assured me Craig would call me back asap... Craig completely blew me off, not even a thank you but no thank you. Nothing...Super disappointed, and misunderstood. Craig missed out on an opportunity. Only cares about whats new. Thats ok, its your business. However, I found another local card shop in La Mesa that was more than happy to spend a couple hours with me and my card collection. I brought in a small portion that I had already sorted for Craig to start, and sure enough walked out the door with $2,000 and made a friend in the hobby and will be going back little by little to share and sell more of my prized collection with them. They get two stars for product and zero stars for personality. We've been going here for nearly two years and spend hundreds of dollars every month, but have never been treated warmly. In fact, we're practically ignored and have to work way too hard to get attention or service. Every time my gf and I leave there we feel shitty and honestly, life is too short for gatekeeping in sports card collecting. It should be joyful and fun! The guy -- oof! Always cutting and sassy. And not a fun way. The woman that's there is a bit better, but you gotta work for a little kindness. If you're not Santee folk, and you know what I mean, spend elsewhere. I would like to have been able to provide a review but after looking around and standing in front of a case trying to get someone's attention to help me and my wife, we ended up walking out. An older man with a snake tattoo, was talking to a father and son about buying a Topps set so to be respectful, we walked around and were looking into the show cases waiting for our turn. A middle age man was sleeving cards on a showcase where we were trying to see what was in the showcase, he just looked up at us and did not say a word and when back to his cards. Once we completed looking in the showcases, the older man finished with the kid and walked away from us and sat down at a computer, when I tried to get his attention he looked up and then walked in the back room. I drove 30 min out of my way to go to the shop after being told they had the best selection of sealed wax in the area, and seeing that they in fact had a good selection of what we were looking to buy (Topps Dynasty ( $900 a Pack), 2 x Topps Definitive $2200 each and a case of 20 x Topps Archive Retired @ 85.00 a Pack)...also in the show case we saw a $500.00 Fernando Tatas Jr. Sterling Auto, and we were hoping to look at some entertainment memorabilia cards. So I guess this business must be doing well that they let a 10K purchase walk out the store without even a hello or goodbye. I will never make that mistake again, but the folks at Clairmont Sports Card and Honey Hole were much kinder and they got the sale... To the person that said if you're from out of the area you will be treated like shit .. Yep pretty much ... if your a local you have a nice shop. read more

This place was fantastic! Just got back into collecting cards, and have been to other card stores in the area recently, but this by far was the best. The staff was fairly friendly and helpful. The lady who assisted me (I didn't ask her name) dealt with me for hours and kept getting cards out for me to go through. Loose cards were priced very fairly and they even had a full case of nice cards 75% off. I will be going back for sure. read more

I like going there. Jerry (I think it's Jerry ) is a character. I like talking to him. He always answers my questions and is patient with some of my questions. It's fun for me going in there. It's a Time Machine of sorts because it takes me back to my youth. They have a large inventory and in my view a lot of quality stuff. I live in downtown SD and a little closer to other card shops in the area, but happily make the drive east to to All Star at least once every 2 weeks or so. There's a dearth of dedicated card stores in San Diego proper. The big box stores badly messed up selling the limited amount of cards that they carried. Having a dedicated card store within easy San Diego driving distance is great. This is a Family owned business that has stayed open for the general public and have practiced "Safe" shopping doting the COVID shutdown by wearing Masks for their safety as well as everyone else. The person that left a Very negative review regarding RACE.. is Completely wrong & Rude. Santee is a community in the East County away from the City of San Diego. They are much more laid back, and a local business used to the locals stopping by. The person that said NO one of color should shop here is doesn't know what the Heck she is taking about. I'm ASIAN and this place has really been great! They don't care if your of a different race, the lady that said negative comments seems to be the one with the "Attitude"... (From LA county?...Hmm) Jerry and Michelle are AWESOME! Just stop by and say hello! On the weekends they have a lot of friends and locals stop by so it may be busy, just be Patient with them. I have a super addictive personality and when I want something, I get it for the most part. My new addiction......well its an old one but it has resurfaced lately..........is collecting baseball cards. The thrill of opening a pack of cards is awesome! All Star Cards is the only card shop I know of in East County. Its located in a little strip mall sort of off Cuymaca and Buena Vista. Same shopping plaza as a locksmith and Emmas Mexican Food (very good by the way). The people that work there are super friendly and it has a neighborhood feel. They have infinite ammounts of cards for sale as well as storage holders etc. If you need any hard to find packs, odds are they probably have them. The prices are really reasonable for todays times. Collecting cards has become freaking expensive as a mofo!!! Whatever happened to the 50 cent packs? Nowdays they are anywhere from a dollar up to 100 bucks a pack! It has to do with alot more autographed cards and game worn jerseys etc but still.....it can make a man go broke to get "the good stuff". Baseball card shops are like drive in theaters.....rare..... and about to become extinct unless people utilize them alot more and keep them in business. I have been coming to this store since I was 8 years old.. I am 40 years old now. Every time I walk into that store the owners treat me like family.. The deals and the products are always there I can always find whatever I'm looking for from Magic the Gathering cards to pokemon cards.The sports collectibles are insane. I see autographs on all the walls. I trust the people who run it to give me honest and fair prices and advice on any questions I may have. This place is still my card shop and I moved to Taylor Texas. Good old Jerry!! I've known this old chimney stack since the 80's when he was leasing a tiny room from the notorious Bob Flynt in Fletcher Hills selling Hockey and Non-Sports Cards!! Jerry is a good dude, very direct, will tell you where you stand. He's not a bullshitter, he doesn't mince words, he'll tell it like it is. Some people get put off by this, but he's not being a dick, it's just the way he is. He's got no filter and I like him more because of it. An old school stand up guy. If you're looking for an honest dealer that values his reputation, go see Jerry. Like any business owner, he likes people who buy and don't sit around and bullshit all day without making a purchase. A hidden gem tucked away in Santee. Reminds me of the card shops that were around when I was a kid. Went here to purchase a gift card and some Pokémon cards for my daughter. Had no clue what I was doing. The female working there was so nice and pointed me in the right direction. When I came back with my daughter they were so nice to her. I was excited to get back into the sports card hobby scene. After researching to see what stores are open during the pandemic, I was pleased to see this location was up and running. I did not have my hopes up too high based on their location. Believe me you pretty much know what to expect in the east county...I've worked in the area before so it's a hit or miss and boy was this place a MISS! First impression as soon as you walk in. Complete dump!! If you're against the whole mask thing don't worry not a single employee/staff member wears one. Front door is wide open and it's business as usual. Now lets get to the cards. Yes, they have a good selection of wax boxes, but completely overpriced. Gheez it's the same price on eBay or more they mark up the retail from Target or Walmart! There's hardly any slabs(graded cards) and the cards that are "showcased" are mostly garbage and no where near mint condition. C'mon now...Let's not get started with their customer service either. From the time I walked in, grabbed some supplies and waited to pay not a single employee acknowledged me or asked if I needed any assistance. I literally had stuff in my hands and ready to pay!! Wow, just wow. So I walked out empty handed. Thanks for nothing and I will continue my business else where. I gave this place a 2 solely based on their wax boxes and if you ever want to complete a vintage or junk wax set. You're better of going to Clairemont Sports Cards or Kobey's Swap Meet. read more

This store has such a huge stock of cards. By focusing on one thing they can give you way more specificity than a chain, they can answer your questions, and their prices are not high! I recently jumped back into card collecting after a two decade hiatus and Michelle and Jerry have helped educate and reacquaint me with the hobby. Price wise, they are so fair & reasonable, but what keeps me coming back is that they make you feel like a friend. Michelle is so knowledgeable and they never pressure you or make you feel like a burden if you ask questions. The store also brings me back to being a kid, and I'm so happy places like this still exist (albeit not many). I've forked over, doled out, emptied more money into this hobby store than I can count. This place has APR on my soul I pay so often. Back in the peak of my spending days I would dish out hundreds of dollars on packs of cards. I love Jerry, the owner of the place, because he always sighs, rolls his eyes, feels bad for me whenever I eviscerate a pack of cards and have a ninth string QB be the best player I pull. Me: This is like the tenth time I've pulled a Chris Gomez card in three packs of 2012 Topps. How is this possible?! He hasn't even played in a dozen years! Jerry: Stop buying packs of cards. You have terrible luck. Me: I HATE YOUR LOGIC. THANK YOU FOR CARING AND YOU'RE RIGHT. All Star cards always has a full house on my wallet. I lose every time. Whenever that cash register rolls open the sound reminds me of a boulder chasing after me. Also, Jerry and family are always nice enough to special order items for you, do price checks on your dented Jamarcus Russell rookie card, or simply give you a hard time for not knowing when to stop buying boxes and get the hell out of their store. I was in San Diego for the weekend and I got the itch for some Hockey wax. I read an article online about Jerry's shop and I just had to pay them a visit. The first thing you'll notice when you walk in is the amount of dated product however that was not the focus of my visit. The selection of hockey product is limited, but that is a byproduct of the region. I found the selection of current prodcts adequate. After spending 20 minutes rummaging through the Hockey single box, I decided to buy a box of 11-12 Panini Titanium Hockey. I took the time to open the box at his breaking table and was kind enough to sit down and watch me crack the box. The first pack I opened contained a case hit rookie of Brayden McNabb /81. I also opened a Hurricanes hat tricks jersey, a Spezza prime jersey and a Carl Gunnarsson New Wave autograph. All said, Jerry was very friendly and hospitable. I plan on making this a spot to visit every time I'm in town. The star level of this review is not based on the contents of the box I opened. I just started collecting baseball cards a couple of months ago. So, I really have no clue, to say the least, when it comes to saving and what to look for. I found the staff to be ultra nice and very helpful. At the time, I was looking for something I didn't need. They politely directed me to the product that I needed. Being cheaper than the original product. I was in a hurry that day so I really didn't get to scour the store to my liking. Awesome shop, Jerry and Michelle are great at customer service, and they have a varied selection of cards. I mostly go there for the magic cards. I go here and to Crazy Fred's the most. I don't know about their sports cards, since I don't collect them, but they do have some very cool signed cards. For their magic cards, you do have to riffle through big bulk boxes, but it is worth it! You'll often find cards at 50% off regular price or more. I once found a 70 dollar card and told him it was mispriced (He had it marked at 15), and he just wanted to make sure his customers got good deals so he kept it at 15. It does make me sad when people brag about ripping him off though. Their prices are awesome as well. Sometimes it seems like they genuinely don't care about making money. It seems I go through a card collecting phase every few years...and each time I have to find some place new to get my fix. When I was really young it was Bases Loaded, after that it was San Diego Sports Collectibles in the Parkway Plaza mall. Then it was CJ's sports cards. All of those places eventually closed down...so now my new place to go is ALL STAR CARDS! Wow, do they have alot of cool stuff in this place! If sports cards and collectibles are your thing, they've got a big supply of baseball, football, basketball, hockey, and even golf, soccer, and MMA cards to satisfy you, plus a ton of related memorabilia and other collectibles for each sport. If you're into MAGIC and those other non sport card games, they've got you covered there too. Prices are very reasonable. If you've only got a few bucks to spend, there's box for each sport with tons of $1 packs, and even some that are 2 or 3 for $1. If you're a big spender, they've got mid priced and high priced packs, all the way up to the fancy boxes that cost $400 to $500! And they've also got plenty of other things on the less expensive end, it really just depends on what kind of collector you are. The owner, Jerry, and his daughter Michelle know their stuff. I've seen many customers come in and talks sports with them, and also spit talk about the collecting hobby itself. Well I live in the East county area and love to just spontanously run out and pick up a pack of football cards. Well to say the least there are basically no cards shops with a good selection other than ALL STAR CARDS. They have a great selection of packs to choose from, being it HOBBY or RETAIL. Not to mention when I recently started collecting again (collected when I was a kid...mid 80's to early 90's) I stroll into this shop again, and Jerry is still behind the counter. This is one of the nicest, down to earth kinda guys you could meet, and I will honestly stop by the shop now from time to time just have a chat. He along with his Daughter will give you their true opinion about what cards to invest in or sell for your long term collection, not just tell ya to buy these because thats what has been sitting on the shelf and the shop needs to sell..... Anyhoo..... If your ever in the East County area and get one of those spontanous urges like I do to buy sports cards or collectables.
