Called Friday morning and the receptionist was amazing and got someone to our house that morning. Full diagnostic told us the compressor went bad. Our unit was 13 years old, so it was about time for a new system. We decided to replace whole system as replacing a compressor is quite expensive basically half the cost of a new one. Mike came that night to price out a new system. I got two quotes from other companies. But decided on Shanahan because of their reputation, service as well as pricing. Talked with Mike and Conner (the owner) about our options and they came on a Saturday to install even though they didn't have an opening until Thursday. The owner himself came with a couple guys and replaced our system. They were very polite, did excellent work and we were back up and running. Plus they had very affordable pricing. These guys care! Use 'em. We loved our experience from start to finish!

They went above and beyond to get our gas lines fixed and ensure our water and gas lines were properly bonded after lightning caused extensive damage to our home and gas lines. A special shoutout to James Jordan for going out of his way to make sure everything was clearly communicated and completed in a timely manner. His attention to detail and commitment to keeping us informed throughout the entire process and getting the project completed even when dealing with multiple issues were greatly appreciated. He made sure we had the key people from his team assigned to this project. We also want to give a huge thank you to Mike Kriesten and John Lambert. They worked an incredibly long day and well into the night, then came back first thing the next morning to finish the installation of our new gas lines. Their hard work, professionalism, and dedication to getting the job done meant more to our family than we can express. When you're dealing with something as important as your home's gas and water systems, having people who genuinely care about doing the job right makes all the difference. My family and I can't thank James, Mike, John, and the entire Marines Service Co. team enough. Exceptional service, communication, and dedication from start to finish. John came out and was very straight forward and up front with everything he did. He explained the issue to me, how he would fix it, and even provided some recommendations I may want to do in the future. My second time I used Bluestar was on a Sunday and they are closed on Sunday's. I did not realize this at first and left them a voicemail in the morning. Realizing they were closed I called another company who would have charged me more than Bluestar to come out later that afternoon to look at the problem which was that my Nest Thermostat was giving an E73 error code meaning it was not getting power. To my surprise I received a call from John at Bluestar that afternoon prior to the other HVAC company coming out. I discussed my thermostat issue not getting power with John and he suggested several troubleshooting fixes I could try over the phone. After eliminating several causes of what the problem may be John suggested holding down the front panel cover switch to the unit to see if a power light was coming on. In doing this I noticed sometimes the light would come on and sometimes it would not. There seemed to be a loose connection in the a wire that was causing the switch not to supply power. After playing with the switch for a few minutes I got the power to stay on and the problem was fixed. John solved my problem and saved me a good deal of money as I canceled my appointment with the other HVAC company. John took over 20 minutes talking to me on the phone going above an beyond to help me solve my AC issue on the day the company is closed. I would highly recommend BluStar to anyone and will use them for all my future HVAC needs.

He installed a brand-new water heater, and when it appeared there was still an issue, he went above and beyond by replacing it a second time to make sure the problem wasn't with the unit itself. Ultimately, we discovered that the real issue was an electrical problem with my circuit breaker, not the water heaters. What impressed me most was Matt's honesty, professionalism, and commitment to helping me get the issue resolved. Even after determining the problem was electrical, he worked with me on pricing and generously discounted his services so I could put those savings toward getting the breaker repaired. It's rare to find someone who genuinely prioritizes helping the customer over simply completing a job. Matt was responsive, knowledgeable, and incredibly fair throughout the entire process. I highly recommend him and his company to anyone in need of plumbing or water heater services.

I had several additional requests which they accommodated such as adding an extra drain line and additional return vent and all the work was done as requested. I therefore. have been very pleased with after-installation service. Separately, I used them for plumbing, specifically replacing a sink faucet, repairing a garbage disposal, and repairing a leaky shower fixture. I was very pleased with this service as well. Especially the garbage disposal because all it needed was a minor turn of a crank to loosen it up instead of a full replacement, which saved me a significant amount of money. Obviously, overall, I'm very happy with their services. I will be using them again and highly recommend.

The young lady who answered our call was courteous, friendly and professional. I was very pleased with their ability to get Patrick out to our house the next day. Their service fee seemed reasonable and I felt comfortable with 90% of Patrick's advice. His service seemed thorough and quick. I know just enough about a/c units to have an idea of what was wrong and Patrick confirmed- the system was low on R22 refrigerant (Freon) and the coil for the compressor had gone out. He replaced the parts, but told me that it wouldn't work for long because it was very low on R22 and there was no more R22 available. He explained the history of R22, which I already knew most of, and told me the only option was to replace the entire system. This is where I became nervous because he quoted a price off the top of his head for a new Carrier system. In my profession we say that "the appearance of impropriety is as bad as the impropriety itself. How could he possibly know the exact amount and instantly recall the number? He hadn't even seen the interior unit or duct system, but said it was all inclusive - $9,500 installed inside and out. His next statement made me more concerned as it is frequently used in high pressure tactics. He said that if we decided before June 1, he'd deduct the $500 service charge from the install cost. I asked several questions to explore the issue, but he quickly shut down the questions with the emphasis on how little time I had to decide. He reminded me several times that the current a/c was not repairable due to the R22 issue and that it wouldn't last without R22. He made it clear that R22 hadn't been available for two years. Due to Patrick's statements feeling false to me, I googled it and to my surprise- Freon is available from many suppliers. I was even able to order it myself as long as I ordered it in 2lb containers or less. I was beyond upset and after a few emails received a call from their GM Tim. He danced around the statements for a while before saying that Patrick had told "half truths" about Freon. It is available, but his company chooses not to stock it- although he later acknowledged he has a 25lb can of it in his service truck. He denied that Patrick was trying to sell me a new unit using false statements and again called them half truths that were the result of poor training. Regardless, my 72 yr old neighbor who recommended them was also upset about the "half truths" she was told that made her buy a new a/c. I'm pleased to say I found a different company that is happy to install my Freon for a $90 service call. They can call it half truths all they want, I believe it is called theft by fraud and although I'm not familiar with Virginia laws- in every other state I've lived in this is called Financial Fraud of an Elder in the case of my neighbor. Please be careful- bigger isn't always better. Ps- Tim referred to company as "ARS" which could explain a lot. American Residential Services is a massive corporation out of Memphis, but DM Select claims to be a "small...family owned business" on their website. Something doesn't add up, but that's not for me to decide- I'll refer my neighbor to state criminal investigators to figure out what lies may have been told and if those lies constitute a criminal violation. Update- I found out just how badly they ripped me off when I jumped online to check the parts the installed. One part was under $12 and the other was available for under $30. The technician took less than 15 mins installing both. I believe these people are straight up criminals and you should avoid them at all cost.
