Very clean and friendly staff- can't take that away from them. But they are not very up front about…read morea couple things: 1) Pricing. They charge "per day." But really they mean "per date." My definition of a day is 24 hours. I dropped my two Great Danes off at 5 PM and picked up less than 24 hours later. I was charged $150. I asked if it was ever possible to be charged for a single day at all- they responded that only for "Doggie Day Care" is it possible for a dog to secure a one-day price. So, hypothetically speaking, if you dropped your dog off at 11:59 PM and picked up at 12:01 AM, they would call that "2 days." Called two other kennels before writing this review to make sure that wasn't industry standard. They said it was ridiculous. 2) I asked if they provided bedding, and they said they did. They knew I was boarding 2 Great Danes together in one kennel. They provided one raised bed for a medium sized dog. Would've been simple for me to provide my own had they just told me that. 3) They are open for two 2-hour windows per day, so plan carefully for pickup and drop off. I'm hoping that means "open-to-public" and they attend to the dogs more frequently then that, but I wouldn't put any bets down. Also, they told me a cash price over the phone that was not offered to me in person when I picked up. Not that I had the right amount on me anyway. I assumed, like a normal person would assume, that less than 24 hours fell in the "one day" pricing range. It's a shame. This kennel is near my house and I was looking forward to using them in the future. Nope.

I am writing this review to give Doreen Biasi's AKC Dachshund NY my highest recommendation. The…read morebreeding practices here are excellent. The dogs are raised and live in the family home. The parents and pups are very well cared for and socialized. Her breeding adults come from all over the world to establish the best lines. Indeed, many of these dogs are among the best examples of the breed and are champions. The parents are genetically tested and the pairings are designed to rule out problem conditions. If you read about dachshund coat color genetics it is actually quite complicated, and indeed there are crosses that could result in health problems. Doreen explains on her website why some pairings are unethical for this reason. Aside from those technical considerations, the dachshunds here are just gorgeous. I mean, look at them! Just beautiful dogs! Just about every coat color you could imagine is represented in her crosses. Most importantly, Doreen is selective about which adults are bred in order to establish lines with the best temperaments. Some of her adult dachshunds compete in dog shows, where they place very well, often with the highest honors. I first contacted Doreen by phone to inquire about specific dachshunds that were available and to ask general questions. She answered all my questions very honestly and to the point, and helped enormously in narrowing down which dog was the best fit. We communicated several more times over the phone and by text and she was always responsive, helpful, and patient. The business is truly a family operation: her daughter Ashley helped me troubleshoot when I encountered a problem with making the deposit online. Ryan drove hours to deliver our dog, and was polite, good humored, and professional. I'll comment that the cost of the pups at AKC Dachshund NY may be higher than at other places, but when you consider the hundreds of hours of love, care and training that go into your future family member I think it is well worth it. In the end we chose Celeste, an 18 month old longhaired black, white and tan dapple. I couldn't imagine a sweeter or gentler dog. She is the perfect combination of playful, calm, and affectionate. She is also pretty quiet - she doesn't bark except maybe once or twice when the mail is being delivered. Her socialization prior to coming to our family was excellent. She is friendly with all people and other dogs, and especially sweet with kids. Everyone who meets her falls in love with her: the vet, doggy day care, visitors, etc. If you look at the videos on the webpage or facebook you'll see Doreen's youngest son playing with the puppies, and I credit him for Celeste being so good with children. She is also doing very well with training. She has brought so much joy and love to our family! When we are ready to get Celeste a friend, I would choose AKC Dachshund NY again in a heartbeat.

I can't recommend Nancy at Know Your Dog Training highly enough…read more After doing extensive research to find the right trainer, I'm so glad I found Nancy. From the beginning it was clear that she has a deep understanding of dogs and brings a calm, confident, and professional approach to everything she does. My dog Kane completed a training program with her, and I was extremely impressed with the experience and the results. Nancy takes the time to truly understand each dog and provides the kind of structure, guidance, and consistency that helps dogs thrive. Since then, Nancy has also become my trusted go-to whenever I travel. Knowing Kane is in her care gives me tremendous peace of mind. He always comes home happy, relaxed, and well cared for. What really sets Nancy apart is the level of attention and personalization she provides. This isn't a typical boarding situation -- she genuinely gets to know the dogs she works with and creates a thoughtful, structured environment for them. Nancy is trustworthy, caring, extremely knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about what she does. I'm very grateful I found her and would recommend Know Your Dog Training without hesitation to anyone looking for a skilled trainer or a safe, reliable place for their dog while they're away.

Nancy was referred to me by another trusted dog trainer I worked with in the city, and I'm so glad…read moreshe was. Having a city dog isn't easy -- our 4-year-old Wheaten Terrier (female) has tons of energy, a stubborn streak, and some anxiety and reactivity issues around other dogs. We were looking for help with leash training and overall confidence, and Nancy was the perfect fit. From the very first interaction, Nancy was professional, friendly, and incredibly knowledgeable. She clearly loves what she does and cares deeply about every dog she works with. I enrolled our pup in a month-long board-and-train program while I was getting married, and Nancy made the experience completely stress-free. She stayed in constant communication, sending regular updates, photos, and videos that showed the progress and the specific behaviors being worked on -- plus advice for us as owners to reinforce at home. When our dog came back, the difference was night and day. She's calmer, more responsive, and walks beautifully on a leash with far fewer distractions. Her reactivity around other dogs has improved dramatically, and she seems much more confident overall. Even after the program ended, Nancy went above and beyond -- she included additional follow-up lessons at no cost and still checks in to see how things are going. Her board-and-train setup is amazing too: the dogs aren't kept in kennels but get to enjoy the outdoors, sunshine, and plenty of attention and enrichment. I can't recommend Know Your Dog and Nancy enough for anyone looking for dog training, board-and-train programs, or boarding with a personal touch. Nancy truly changed our dog's behavior -- and our lives -- for the better.
