Wow, where do I start. My Subaru broke down at the base of the mountain. It was shaking on the freeway and we noticed as we wound down the mountain a popping noise- almost as if a pebble was stuck in the tire. We immediately got off the road and yelped the closest automotive repair shop. We were looking for proximity and didn't have the luxury of basing it on reviews. So I had no idea what to expect. I pulled in and spoke with Mel, one of the service managers. Because we were stranded (we were 2 hours away from home) he made it a priority and got a mechanic on it (Steven) immediately - ie there was no wait time at all. Steven road tested it and put it on the rack. They brought me into the shop (my husband waited in the lobby with our 2 dogs) and the mechanic showed me that the left front bushing was bad and was rubbing metal to metal. He also noted that the right CV joint was going bad but it wasn't critical. The bushing however was a safety concern and would need to be replaced. I asked Steven if he felt the other bushing would need to be replaced and he said there was no indication that the other bushing needed to be replaced. Mel made the recommendation that we order the part. He said he could get it from a local, auto zone but it would be the entire unit in one piece and should there ever be an issue, the entire piece would need to be replaced. Ordering just the bushing is cheaper and I wouldn't be purchasing unnecessary parts. I went with his recommendation which required us to rent a car. Mel offered to call on our behalf and told us he had a special rate of $30 with the local car rental. He told me he would call me first thing in the morning with a status of the part and a total estimate of parts and labor. He did provide m pricing for the bushing and CV Joint. On the way home I spoke with my father and my uncle- both own mechanic shops. The both agreed the prices of the parts were fair and they gave me estimates on how long it would take to replace both. Both my father and myself were very impressed with the honesty of the shop. They could have gauged me given the situation or recommended that I replace both bushings and CV joints but they didn't. In fact, they didn't even pressure me to replace the CV joint. The next morning, as promised, Mel called and the part didn't make it out on the first run. He did assure me that it will be there shortly and the entire thing should be done by 1pm. He gave me the total price and I was shocked. It was much lower than I anticipated. I told him to go ahead with both replacements. Of course the next call was to my father who agreed this is an honest shop and to give them as much business as I could. When I got there, Steven showed me the old bushing and showed me the problem, it was cracked all the way through which caused the shaking. I would never had made it home. As a female, when I go to the mechanic, I expect to be price gauged or scared into buying things that I don't need. Sadly this is how many shops operate. THIS IS NOT ONE OF THOSE SHOPS. These guys are honest and fair. I was so impressed by the customer service and professionalism of this team. Steven and Mel are wonderful employees and I cannot speak highly enough about them. I needed a car battery change since this was my first car and I had no idea how to actually change it. Was considering trying it myself but didn't want to damage my Lexus. I came to this place with a new battery I bought in Autozone and Robert was the mechanic who helped repair my vehicle. Robert was very straightforward and honest and did a very good job. He also let me observe the repair and learn from him so I know what to do when I encounter another issue. I was charged $20 for the labor cost. Honestly one star is being way to generous. Where do I start, if you own a volvo don't take it here, they haven't a clue, went here as was told they were the goto people for volvos. And it was the worst experience of my life car repair wise.. went into repair my transmission,that same week I received my car back... didn't take long so great, so I collected my car and noticed the transmission was slipping again and didnt have the same power it used to.. so as it was under warrenty I took it back and they took a month to fix it.. so again I collected the car, things were ok for a while untill one day it stopped moving completely. So I had somebody look at it and look for leaks in the transmission and there wasnt any.. so I had it towed back to this shop.. a few days later I rung to see what the issue was to be told the transmission fluid vanished. They had the car over a week before even starting work on it. Nearly a fortnight after being told what was wrong im told the car is ready.. so again I goto collect.. I start it, and the transmission light is on... To which I was told they just forgot to clear the code.. so when he did clear it I left.. I noticed it was running worse then when I picked it up last time, I didn't even make it home as the car stopped running and transmission repair urgent light came on, so I called the shop and was told shut the car off to see if it would reset the computer so it would drive.. which worked, so I drove it back to the shop and I was once again left without a car for work , after a couple of days I rung the shop to be told they needed to change the computer to match the transmission. .which didn't work.. so then they said they needed to change the pins in the transmission, that didnt work either. Then they told me they had put the wrong transmission in the car.. Point of this lenghy review is they advertise as volvo specialists which the quality of work suggests otherwise this dragged on for over 6months roughly .although they did loan me a car way into this ordeal (expired tags so they shouldnt of) Please if you want a easy stressfree repair. My daughters volvo was dead. We had spent over $3000 and 7 months elsewhere and we were desperate to get it running so our daughter could drive herself to college. Another shop told us to have it towed to All Make Auto and to ask for Mel. Within two weeks Tom, the owner and Mel, head mechanic, had it running smoothly. We got it smogged and our daughters spirits were lifted. They were kind, straight talking and looked for ways to fix rather than replace whenever possible without sacrificing quality work. Really great people that know everything about fixing a volvo. I have a 1990 240 volvo and i dont know anything about cars. Its important to have a mechanic that knows how to fix it and i can trust them not to overcharge and rip me off. In the beginning this shop looks very good when compared with others, but after you deal with them for a bit your opinion might change. I had a 99 Volvo that i took to him for some repairs and i was told that it needed some major repairs, very costly repairs and that even he couldnt do anything with the car so he offered me about 300 for the vehicle and i decided to let him keep it and use it for parts or whatever. now about a month later he is selling that same vehicle on craigslist, (i guess it was worth it to fix) the price of the vehicle is about as much as i paid for it 4 years ago and 70k less miles. read more

I went here for a pre-sale inspection on a used Volvo. They charged $90, almost exactly what I was expecting to pay. However their service was way above and beyond. The mechanic walked me though every part of the car and showed me all the issues in detail. He even replaced the oil cap seal when he saw it was bad. My son is attending University of Redlands and driving our old 1999 V70 Volvo with 150K on it. It died on him and after looking around and reading the bad reviews on the Volvo dealerships in the area for service I found Mel. I had our Volvo shop in Portland send him the service records and Mel was able to fix the issue very quickly. Turned out to be a fuel relay switch and a bad battery. I also had him fix a leaking hose from the radiator and do a service while he had it. He was very reasonable on the bill and got the car going again when I was ready to donate it to the local PBS station! I would not hesitate to recommend All Make Auto to anyone and will definitely be getting the car serviced there again. read more

I love my 01' Volvo S40 but after a year of having this car, it would stall on me. Stalling occurred every now and then during stops when giving gas. Engine light was on, and I could never figure out the code on my "code reader". So happy that I found this Auto Shop through this app (Yelp!), especially since they specialize on Volvo's! I dropped off my car and picked up days later. I didn't mind that my vehicle was in the shop a bit longer than imagined...I really wanted my car repaired. There was great communication, I was kept well informed throughout. It has been 3 months since the repairs were done and I am so pleased....my car runs terrific (knock on wood)!!! This shop has done many extras without charging. Toms an expert and this is the Volvo shop for the ie. Honest. Good labor rates, not the best location but it's hard to find a good shop that's affordable and where the tech is meticulous and takes care to give you options of oe or aftermarket. read more

I only buy volvo's and a big reason for doing so is because I can take them here and get them fixed right for a reasonable price. I bought my first volvo 13 years ago when my teenagers started to drive and I liked it so much I bought all 5 members of my family a volvo. I have been taking all of my cars here for 13 years and I am very satisfied with the service I have received from this shop.There are other volvo mechanics closer to my house, however I go to this shop for 99% of all of my volvo repairs. read more

worst place to get your vehicle worked on. we have a van that was leaking transmission fluid and they could not figure out the problem. tried to charge us for work they did that did not need to be done then when we called them on it the ended up breaking the bearings in our transmission by carelessly sliding the axel back into place. very rude and they do not tell you what they are doing to your vehicle before they do it nor do they take you back into the shop to show you whats wrong with your vehicle.
