Rumpca Services - New furnace and ductwork.

    Rumpca Services

My air conditioning unit stopped working at the WORST possible time. I called Rumpca Services and…read morehad someone out the same day. He found a family of mice had made my AC unit their home. There was so much damage that the unit was unsalvageable. An estimator came out that same day to talk to me about replacing the unit. It was over 15 years old so I was kind of expecting it. My furnace definitely needed tending to, and I realize replacing them both at the same time is typically recommended. The estimator did not pressure me whatsoever and I ended up getting a quote for a furnace and AC unit replacement. The quote was thorough and after researching everything, I determined it was a fair deal. I went ahead with the purchase and they were out a few days later to get the job done. I cannot begin to tell you how incredibly professional and personable everyone was. They did a stellar job replacing everything and I had no idea how big of a difference this upgrade would make. Additionally, the small details didn't go unnoticed. The new vent going outside, the thermostat and even the Rumpca sticker on the ducts were level and neat. I love supporting small businesses and this one has been around for as long as I can remember. I highly recommend Rumpca Services!

My 97 year old Mother had these rip off artists come out to her home twice within a week or so. The…read morefirst time was to figure out why her toilet kept running. The guy that was out there took his sweet ol' time and finally just put a new flapper in the tank and charged her $340!! The second time was to put new shutoff valves on the upstairs and downstairs toilets. They told her that seeing she was in Ramsey county they couldn't shut her water off without permission from St. Paul. Which is total BS, especially when she has a shutoff on her main water line coming into the house. They said seeing as their business wasn't located in that area they couldn't do the work. But later on in the day, the owner called and said they could work around that by "freezing her pipes" and the charge would be $1000!!!! She talked to me, her son, and I told her this is total crap. She ended up calling someone else who shut her main water valve off in the basement and replaced both valves for $250! She had used Rumpca for about 30 years and we have figured out that they have been ripping her off for all those years. My advice is to stay away from these scumbags and call a reputable plumber.

Ron the Sewer Rat - Had to access the sewer line through a bathroom toilet.

We have had the Sewer Rat team out to our house before and were extremely pleased with the result…read more We especially appreciated their down to earth pricing and approach after having a "bigger name" plumber come out and quote us over $15k for redoing our entire system. Our annual main sewer line cleanout was $380 (a fraction of what we've had to pay for emergency services in the past, SUCH a deal) - we live in an area where our pipes are made of clay, so roots grow through the pipes and we need to get them cleared out regularly. We are going through a lot right now - we have an infant, I am postpartum, and our house is a mess right now, but the technician took it in stride and even talked with us about their kids. I appreciate the kindness and professionalism from their team and would wholeheartedly recommend this company to anyone in need of their services.

The work that I eventually had R.T.S.R. do was very solid. The guy that did the work showed up on…read moretime for both the initial quote and the actual work. The work that was done was, to my eye, top notch, and I have no complaints at all. The item preventing a five star review is in that I'm not a huge fan of the initial quoting process. I was informed prior to arrival, that there would be a quote fee, and that if I went with the job, that quote fee would be applied to the final job (effectively eliminating the quote fee). I hate it when companies do this, as it feels like I'm being pressured to not seek competing quotes. But I also get it: people don't work for free, and sending someone out takes gas and time that could otherwise be generating revenue. So as much as I don't like it, as I said I get it. What I don't get is that a couple of times the guy that came to do the quote (and eventually did the drain work that I needed done immediately) needed to call a master plumber a couple of times, and for a separate job of galvanized supply pipe replacement, a quote could only be provided in a range without an on-site visit from said master plumber. So that's where I have a bit of a sticking point - if you want to charge for a quote, that's totally fine. But don't send people that can't provide a total quote without being to consult with a master plumber, and can't provide a complete quote for the scope of a job. If you want to send out junior plumbers to handle basic quote work, that's totally fine. But you can't have your cake and eat it too. If you want to send a junior plumber, those quotes should be free, with the paid quote coming when a master plumber has to take a look. I would totally recommend R.T.S.R. to handle any plumbing job, but I really do think their quoting practices need a bit of an examination.
