Came here to buy a bigger rod to target trevally. Neil hooked me up with the gear I needed. Hooked a large trevally but it bit through my line. Happy I got a small one at least.

Great, loved the used section Wide variety of lures, line, hooks & terminal Owner was punctual, and a joy to talk to. Won't visit any other bait store on Maui because of that

Joey took us to the beach to practice our breath work before we went out, which help a lot when I find myself starting to get nervous.

Spontaneity couldn't have worked out better. We arrived yesterday without any plans for the week, called the shop because we were really wanting an exciting and novel experience, and luckily got Joey as a guide to take us out to spearfish. It was a 101 course as it was our first time and I'm not that comfortable out in the water. Our day started at 7am at the shop, where Joey walked us through the agenda for the day, showed us how to ID the fish we were going for, fitted us for the equipment, and talked through gun handling and safety. We headed out to the beach and learned a few tips on breath work, practiced it together as a group, and off we went! As someone not super comfortable with water (I can swim, have learned surfing and SUP) this was a challenge for me to stay calm and remember the basics when we learned to dive under water while holding the speargun. But there were moments where I felt total serenity observing schools of fish passing us by underwater. I'm glad we did this because it opened us a whole new world to us terrestrial animals.

I've been on several guided spearfishing trips (all introductory). This company, BY FAR, offers the highest quality training. Not only that, but the guide (Keoki) was extremely personable and friendly. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

Good service and good rental price on snorkeling gear. We rented in the morning and had to return it by 3pm next day. That's practically 2 day rental for the price of 1 day. Returning equipment took a few minutes only.

I visit AAF very often when I am in Maui right now. I got all my gear for spearfishing here, in addition I got a lot of local fishing information here. See my photos, lobster, fish, conch, crab etc.

I'm looking for a great Spearfishing gear. Can u tell me about the price? If it's not too expensive, I'll check it out today at the shop. Thank you so much

Three prongs range from $40 to $280, and spearguns range from $125 to $380. Cost is reflective of both size and quality.

Such a unique, wonderful time!! We booked as a private group of 4 for the beginner off-shore diving…read moreexperience, as it was everyone's first time diving. Our instructor Sean was amazing!! Your first scuba experience may feel quite daunting (it was for me!) but your instructor goes over all the equipment, safety measures, and hand signals to know--that you are also required to go over in your online course, so helpful! LEADING UP TO YOUR DIVE: A lot of the prep comes before you even arrive for your dive: the online info courses and waivers (took about 20-35 min) and inputting the height and weight of each diver, so once we were ready to start heading to the beach, Dive Maui quickly got us into our wet suits, and later quickly had us fit for our masks, oxygen tanks, and weights for the vest. The indoor area where they go over the info and where you put on your wet suits also have a bathroom you can use before and after which was helpful to have a place to change afterwards. They don't have lockers or a designated place to leave your stuff, but it did kind of feel safe if you're just leaving a bag of clothes or shoes when you dive; overall, I'd recommend coming with less stuff though unless you have someone to hold your things. THE EXPERIENCE: 10/10 but that is just speaking for me LOL we got to see so much wildlife in their space: so many different kinds of fish, schools of fish cleaning off turtles (we saw around 10 turtles!), we caught to briefly look at 2 sharks chilling on the ocean floor, and saw a flounder fish in the sand. At one point, I was swimming alongside a turtle!! We had someone in our group who was not as strong a swimmer and was more nervous with all the gear so they had a harder time enjoying the experience, but our instructor was really good and intentional with making sure they were okay and walked with them slower through the experience. Otherwise, we overall really enjoyed the experience and have no regrets! It definitely feels like you get to see more of Maui's wildlife beauty in its natural place, as opposed to the more touristy, marketed Hawaii. They recommend all divers be a strong swimmer, to expand on this--as long as you are comfortable maneuvering yourself in the water (would you be able to quickly change direction if you notice you're drifting into coral or , able to swim deeper and manage how deep or shallow you stay in the water--no need to be on a swim team--it is not about speed or being able to literally dive LOL IMPORTANT: our booking did not do shallow water training at a pool or at the shore before going down to practice our skills test (how to blow water out of your mask, practicing what to do when our breather comes out of our mouth, clearing our sinuses, checking our oxygen tanks and responding to our instructor with correct hand signals of our oxygen level). So we knew we were going to practice these skills, but it can definitely be scary since you go 20 feet down and then do the skills. Yes, you need to be a decent swimmer, but I think it's more important you think about if you can stay calm and trust your instructor and the skills they are teaching you--the entire experience of using the gear and being 20-30 feet underwater takes some time to get used to, so make sure you are okay with knowing that you don't get shallow water training and can stay calm and remember to take deep breaths as you get used to breathing through your mouth only and blowing water out when you can't breathe in, rather than panicking. If you are typically able to pick up new skills and can stay calm under pressure, then totally try scuba diving!! Dive Maui will keep you safe! We parked in the nearby lot near the grocery stores. When you register, they give parking suggestions and specify where not to park to make sure you won't get a ticket or get towed parking in private spots. It would be great if they were able to have a photographer or camera to catch a few pics during the experience. Even if they charged for the pictures, that's one I would (and think many people would) pay for! especially since not many people want to bring their phone or have underwater cameras to bring along with them, let alone having to figure out how they want to hold or attach it to their gear with them (not even sure if they allow this)

(LAHAINA STRONG) When we got on our boat it we were met with the same excellent hospitality from Joe the captain and Renee the first mate! They listened to everyone who spotted whales, plus they spotted several of course. We even got "mugged" by two whales who apparently thought our boat was cool. (Mugging is when the whales hang out very close to the boat and you can not move the boat). I am sure Renee got some great gopro video because I did and she had a long pole for hers. We also had them spy hop us and later had a baby breach near the boat. Overall one of the best whale watching trips I have been on and I have taken a lot! Sorry I could not upload video.

Recent…read moreMaui rains reduced visibility at many sites, but Gu adjusted the plan and guided us to the best possible conditions. That made the difference. These were refresher dives for our group, and Gu handled them exactly right. He quickly assessed each diver's experience, our small group included both newer divers with fewer than ten dives and others with more than 70, but with time since our last dives. His review of fundamentals, safety, and buoyancy control was clear and structured, without slowing the group down. He also reinforced reef etiquette and respect for marine life in a practical, no-nonsense way. This team takes responsible diving seriously. What stood out most was Gu's site knowledge. Not just which sites to choose, but where to position within each site to maximize visibility and encounters. He set expectations on what we might see, spotted eagle rays, green sea turtles, white-tip reef sharks, snowflake moray eels, and more, and then delivered. We saw all of it. With two divers carrying cameras, he was mindful of positioning, and I came away with great shots of eagle rays, reef sharks, and multiple turtles. The highlight was a turtle cleaning station at Mala Wharf, with six turtles active at once and eagle rays passing nearby. It was one of those rare dives where something meaningful is happening in every direction. The attached photo captures that exact moment, multiple turtles gathered at the cleaning station with eagle rays moving through the scene. Operationally, everything was tight: * Strong safety culture and clear briefings * Efficient check-in and gear handling * Well-maintained equipment * Good pacing, no rushing, no wasted time * Attentive in-water supervision without being intrusive * Effective group management for mixed experience levels If you are traveling to Hawaii with limited dive windows, this is the operator you want. They remove uncertainty and maximize your chances of a memorable dive. Highly recommend Extended Horizons, and Gu as your guide.

He also prepped us with details about the animals we were likely to see and fun info about their behaviors so we knew what to look for - we saw rays, turtles, moray eels, and an octopus! We did two shore dives at Airport Beach and the team did a great job of adjusting the plan given some areas of reduced visibility after the recent severe storm, so we still had an amazing experience. Gu knew every detail of the reef so knew exactly where to take us. Everyone we interacted with including the instructors and the people we spoke to about scheduling were kind, flexible, and informative. We hear they'll have their boat up and running this summer - when we come back to Maui we will definitely sign up for another dive with this crew!!

We scheduled five dives over two days -- four for the certification and an extra one as a skills refresher. I'm already certified but hadn't been diving in several years, so I was able to joined them on most of the dives. Barry is an outstanding instructor. He's encouraging yet precise -- striking a good balance between demonstrating skills, offering guidance, and ensuring that you're truly mastering the material. Each dive began with required skills (like mask clearing, out-of-air drills, controlled emergency swim ascent, etc...), and then we used the remaining time to explore the beautiful nearby reefs. Over the two days, we saw sea turtles, eels, an octopus, and an amazing variety of fish, both large and small. On our final dive, Barry filmed us using professional gear, and the resulting video turned out great -- a fantastic memory of our first dives together for my son and me. We also really appreciated Barry's flexibility. When my son caught a cold, Barry was happy to reschedule our second dive day to later in the week, which made for a much better and safer experience overall. Highly recommend Barry for anyone looking for a skilled, thoughtful, and safety-conscious dive instructor for a private or small group experience.
