The man working in the store really lacks customer service skills. We felt very unwanted, and we felt as if we were irritating him by asking him for advice on different line and hooks. Maybe he's nicer to locals, considering he is the only shop in town for tackle he is lucky because if there was any other store we could've gone we would have left immediately after being talked to condescendingly this man. We ended up dropping over $100 begrudgingly due to the fact that there was nowhere else to go for some of these same lures/hooks. Stopped in to reload on a few lures for the last day of our trip based on the suggestion of a local we met on the rocks. They had some cool stuff for sure, especially the Mark White lures. The problem is there's no prices on anything, which as it turns out is because there's a local price and a tourist price. I bought 3 lures, 4 plastic minnows, one pack of owner hooks and 3 .5oz weights. The total was $94. He asked if I wanted a receipt, sure! He gave me a credit card receipt, not an actual itemized receipt, so I still have no idea what he charged me for each item. Maybe he made a mistake? I'll never know. Checked real world prices for each item I bought when we got back to the rocks and even on the highest of high end Hawaii prices, this bag should have been under $70 out the door. Would I return? Sure, in a pinch, but I would make sure to ask prices before checking out. Not a big deal, but not an honest way of doing business. read more

Spontaneity couldn't have worked out better. We arrived yesterday without any plans for the week, called the shop because we were really wanting an exciting and novel experience, and luckily got Joey as a guide to take us out to spearfish. It was a 101 course as it was our first time and I'm not that comfortable out in the water. Our day started at 7am at the shop, where Joey walked us through the agenda for the day, showed us how to ID the fish we were going for, fitted us for the equipment, and talked through gun handling and safety. We headed out to the beach and learned a few tips on breath work, practiced it together as a group, and off we went! As someone not super comfortable with water (I can swim, have learned surfing and SUP) this was a challenge for me to stay calm and remember the basics when we learned to dive under water while holding the speargun. But there were moments where I felt total serenity observing schools of fish passing us by underwater. I'm glad we did this because it opened us a whole new world to us terrestrial animals. read more

My brother and I have never been spear fishing before but wanted to go while in Maui. After a quick class and some breathing exercises we got in the water to test out equalizing our ears to the pressure. Before this I had never been more than 12ft under water. After what Bear and the guys here taught us I was able to hold my breath for over 2mins and hit 30ft of water on the first try. Absolutely amazing! These guys are pros and I highly recommend it. We did get skunked in the water on fishing but it wasn't from a lack of seeing fish, it's just a learning curve to hit them and you have to be selective. We saw so many different types of fish, several turtles, and a massive pod of dolphins swimming and jumping out of the water! Check these guys out for a great time! read more

The guy working here (I'm assuming he's the owner due to his "I'm in charge" demeanor) loves driving customers away. A man and his son were getting fully outfitted with spear fishing gear. I had one fishing item in my hand so the other customer offered to let me pay so I wouldn't have to wait because they were buying a lot and getting info too. The guy working here ignored that and kept reassembling a diving flag, taking his sweet time. He looked over at me waiting at the counter numerous times and ignored me and hadn't even greeted me when I came in. During the 15 minutes I was waiting to make a purchase, I noticed a little kid looking at all the fishing stuff. He was curious and interested in fishing, and I heard his mom say "go ahead and look around but don't touch anything. I'm gonna be right next door for a couple minutes." This kid was at least 10, and very well behaved. He wasn't touching anything or doing anything wrong. As soon as the lady left and the door closed, but not while she was still there and could hear it, the guy working there said something like," I've got a sign on the door that says unattended children become my fishing bait, so it looks like I got some bait." He said it super loud to be sure the poor kid heard it, and the kid looked upset. I thought that was really passive aggressive and childish to say it so the kid could hear it, but not the parent. The kid left without buying anything. I also own a small business and would have just kept an eye on the kid and been nice. Yes it's not ideal to have an unattended child in your store, but he was being respectful and wasn't touching anything. It could have been handled better. I hung around for a few more minutes, listening to the guy working there rambling on and clearly enjoying the fact that he was making me wait even longer. I decided to put the fishing item back and leave, because my family had been waiting in the car for me the whole time. The experience was unnecessary and frustrating. It's not the only fishing store on the island, not to mention this place that's supposed to be "all about fishing" doesn't even open until 9am- what a joke. Give someone else your money! read more

Stopped in here after getting on the island to get some fishing tackle and a rod holder, they rent pretty much everything except hooks, sinkers and swivels. I brought my own rod and reel so I just needed a rod holder which was only 8 dollars per week. They showed me what gear to use and re-spooled my reel. Gave me some good tips and I was on my way. Unfortunately I didn't catch anything behind our condo, but either did most of the locals that fish there daily. This will be my go to spot for all of my fishing needs when on the island. read more

They are very friendly and will help you out with any questions that you may have about fishing the local areas. you can buy or rent fishing equipment. THE BEST Our daughter was getting married in Maui last week and recommended this shop. We, along with about 20 others from the wedding group, rented quality snorkles/masks/fins from them and were 100% satisfied. What we will never forget and thank Tonia and her young assistant for was how they worked with our 10 year old granddaughter to convince her that she would enjoy snorkeling and to outfit her perfectly. She is a very tentative young girl and only with their help did she get convinced to try it. The proof was when I was taking photos on shore and asked her how she liked it after her first snorkeling session. The answer was "It was awesome" After that we could not keep her out of the water. We went on a snorkeling tour with them. They sent us out with a great local with great English. He was very enthusiastic and energetic. (Which was perfect) He was a pro at everything to do with the water. He was very friendly and even grabbed an octopus and let us play with it. Although we didn't catch anything, the pure friendliness of him and the genuineness of his helpfulness made us completely forget we didn't catch anything. Very open and honest guys. I spent about an hour on 2 occasions talking fish with three different guys and at no time did they rush or pressure me. As a result I grabbed a nice new Penn spinning reel, rented a rod for the week and had a BLAST.
