My favorite Barre studio in the area. I have been coming here on and off for the last year. I drive all the way from Sunnyvale. Plenty of parking and the studio is spacious, clean, has two restrooms, and a shower. They also offer child care which is a nice bonus (I do believe you have to pay extra). The work space is clean and they have all the supplies you need. You do need sticky socks. The instructors are great. They go around and fix your form. read more

I 'd highly recommend Alkalign Studios to anyone wanting to (a) start an exercise habit or (b) complement an existing one by building functional strength as insurance against injuries. It is a friendly, clean, welcoming studio. I was never able to stick to regular exercise until I tried Alkalign 5 months ago; now I go 2x/week and I don't even mind it. Results: I'm noticeably stronger, my previous back pain (which I'd chalked up to being a person over 30 who sits at a desk all day) only visits me rarely now, my posture is better, and my butt looks great. All the instructors are really knowledgeable and give individualized adjustments during class to help you maximize gains and avoid injury. If you're an exercise beginner: Classes were a bit hard at first since I was starting from zero, but instructors were always kind and encouraging. They're happy to give modifications to make it easier and you're welcome to go at your own pace. Before you know it you'll be able to do the harder versions and you'll be amazed at what you can do. read more

This was my first barre class and I found out about this studio through ClassPass. Didn't know what to expect out of Barre but I decided to step out of my comfort zone and try it out. Instructor was very friendly and introduced herself to the new faces in the room. I had fun during the class but wished I could keep up with some of the ladies in the room! My legs and gluts were sore for days after! My abdominal was burning during the leg raises, holy smokes. They even have a child care room, which is great for mothers who want to get a workout in without having to find a sitter. Would definetely come back to try another class, I do wish there were more people my age because I did feel a little out of place, but kudos to the ladies who were killin' it! Literally, there was a lady with a 4 month old baby here in the class prior to mine, who I'm sure was killin' it!! read more

i came here a few months ago for a free community class to check out their studio and offerings. the class i chose was a "sampler platter" which included a little bit of each of their classes, a little bit of align 101, cardio align & recharge all rolled into one 60 min class. the instructor was actually the owner and founder of the studio, erin, who was so sweet and welcoming. since it was my first time here, i had no idea what i was doing, so i constantly looked around, checking out my fellow classmates to see what they were doing and looking in the mirror to see if my form was correct. erin was so nice and helpful, coming to me several times during the class to help me with the postures & movements. even though this wasn't a high intensity class which made me sweat buckets, it was so practical, teaching me the proper form on how to do basic everyday things like picking up something off the floor (squatting and reaching) or putting something on a shelf (extending and more reaching). i was definitely sore after, in all the places that i never thought imaginable and learned to really be mindful of my posture in all the daily activities that i do (and take for granted!) the studio has a nice layout with a lobby/checkin desk, beautiful, clean studio, and well-appointed restroom with toilets, sinks, lockers, and changing areas. parking can be a little tricky in downtown los altos, so best to allocate some time to find a spot on the street or in one of the nearby parking lots. read more

Alkalign Studios was formerly The Dailey Method. I came to this studio through Classpass. Everything is pretty much brand new and the location is very spacious. They also have lockers for your belongings. In class, the pace was on the slower side compared to other barre studios i.e. Pure Barre, Pop Physique. I don't remember the instructor's name, but she only adjusted me once maybe. Nobody really welcomed me like they do at other studios when they know you're a first time visitor. Surprisingly, got a postcard a few weeks later. I didn't feel that excitement where I find myself coming back. read more

Alkalign is formally known as The Daily Method, but I believe since the owner decided to convert, the workout has improved. I have been to both the Menlo Park and Los Altos locations when they were the Daily Method, as well as Alkalign, and my experience was very good in general. However, I do feel the workout is a little more strenuous with Alkaligh, which I throughly enjoy. If you are looking for a stellar barre workout, make a trip to Alkalign! read more

Have you ever attended a bar class that had no choreography or syncopation with music? It can be really frustrating. After several good experiences at Alkalign, I had an instructor that played a pop-music Internet radio station with ballads and singing and no syncopation. It was hard to hear the instructor over the singing and the rock ballads that came through frequently ghad singing but no beat. I provided feedback at the end of a class (as is always invited). More than two weeks later, the CEO decided to "address" my feedback by telling me, basically, that feedback (which she labeled an "outburst") is not welcome and she set the conditions on which I would be allowed to attend. Judge for yourself (many of the instructors are good) but no, based on this response, I won't be back. === Patrick- It came to my attention that a couple of weeks ago after a class at my studio you approached the instructor to give feedback. We are all for constructive feedback but neither the nature of the feedback nor the way it was communicated was constructive or kind. The outburst made the instructor as well as several people in the vicinity feel uncomfortable. You followed up with a negative Class Pass review and told the instructor you would never come back. However, seeing that you returned to the Los Altos location on Wednesday I feel it necessary to address what happened. I know we all have bad days but this was unacceptable. You are welcome to attend classes but I fully expect that you treat my staff and instructors with respect and kindness. I have been telling all my new mom friends about Alkaligne. I joined as a Dailey Method member and forgot I had a package there. Erin kindly rolled over my package and I finished my package and bought the mom program. One month of working out 6x a day and I already feel stronger. I love that the my baby is in the playroom and I get an hour to myself. If you are looking for a slow pace class to engage and focus on muscle, this studio is it. Compared to pure barre and barre3, this studio is much slower pace. Less cardio and more stretching and breaks. I have been to a variety of classes and my favorite is Elevate. It is closest to a pure barre and barre3 class but they don't offer it regularly. If you want more cardio, you will need to do recharge for 15mins and with limited time I prefer to use my time for more active exercises. I tell my friends to start with their standard barre class first for their first class. The community is great, a lot of moms and really nice people. The instructors are enthusiastic and caring. I love the music Laura and Pauline use in their class. A mix of latest hits with a beat and music with no words and beats. The pop song helps me sing along in my head as I go one inch up and one inch down. I appreciate the constant cue and conversations to distract me from how long I have done a perfect plank. Very clean room and will be bummed to not come here as frequently when I return to work. read more

Been a member of Alkalign since they opened and I love it! I was so sad when shelter in place came into reality because I wouldn't be able to go to class anymore. Not only is the studio welcoming and an amazing workout, they have helped me recover from two serious knee injuries by helping me modify classes, build strength and confidence until I fully recovered. The owner of Alkalign has followed the shelter in place order early and brought her entire program into an online live streaming format with the option to watch a class recorded at any time. The classes are adjusted to be able to be done at home easily with or without your own props (weights, mats, etc). I highly recommend this workout at home streaming (there are I think 35 class options a week!) and also can't wait until the time is right to go back to classes in the studio! read more

I met Erin (the owner of this lovely establishment) at an event and she encouraged me to try her barre classes after I told her how I fell off the pilates wagon when work got super busy and my pilates studio moved! Well, it was definitely a rough start. I took a Barre Align class as my first venture, and it was pretty much a disaster! I had no idea what I was doing and was flopping around like a person 10 steps behind in a dance class. I felt bad for the instructor because I was so new and inexperienced and she couldn't give me that much attention. I was really embarrassed but also really proud of myself for going for it. I was also quite sore for a full week which basically made me feel like I actually got a decent workout and should try again. After some helpful feedback and an apology from Erin (which really, not needed, but she is so sweet!), I decided to try the Barre 101 class on Saturdays. WHAT A DIFFERENCE! Barre 101 is about the basics of Barre and walks you through the workout at a much easier pace. The workout overall is NOT EASY. You still sweat up a storm and feel like a million bucks afterwards. The music is pretty good and helps get you in the zone. The explanations are very helpful, and I've had an overall positive experience with most of the teachers. If you can take a class with Erin, she's definitely the best! She truly has a passion for fitness and helping others. I also love Cathy and Sarah. I wish they offered more Barre 101 classes. While I really like the Saturday 11am class, I can't make it all the time. Also, I have friends who are intimidated by Barre and it's hard to get them to come out and join me on a Saturday morning. I did try a Cardio Align class with Sarah, and it was really difficult. I wouldn't recommend doing it unless you're already really fit or have had a lot of prior Barre experience, but definitely try it if you need some crazy cardio! read more

I am a new member having taken 10+ classes so far and really like it. I'm about to hit a big birthday milestone and i notice my flexibility and strength have dramatically decreased in the last couple of years. The classes are helping to improve my balance, core strength and general muscle fitness. I look forward to adding more cardio classes to my schedule. All the instructors have been incredible and friendly. There are people of all ages and sizes and it's super encouraging especially if you are a beginner. read more

I started coming here when it was the Dailey Method, but it has since changed names and also slightly changed the workout. A change which I personally enjoy as far as the actual exercises go. Squats go a lot farther than marching in place! I joke that it is absolutely miserable yet honestly it is the first and only workout that I have done and actually noticed physical changes in my body within a month, particularly my stomach! The instructors are all really nice, and also very knowledgeable. Each one has their own "flair" and style for the class. My personal favorites are Erin (always has the class laughing) and Alene, who teaches the intro class. I feel like her energy is very zen and kind and you don't feel like a moron when you are doing something wrong in her class! I will say though no matter who is teaching, your legs will be shaking at some point! The studio is very clean and bright, and if you do shower there they have everything you need... my toiletry bag is very minimal. I also like that there are very convenient times for classes throughout the day (morning to evening) so if I miss one, chances are I can catch a later one. read more

I love Alkalign. I've been attending classes for many years and the workouts (particularly the Align classes) are essential to my health and mobility. For years I suffered with lower back problems on-and-off, and after I started regularly attending Alkalign classes the pain completely disappeared and has never returned. I appreciate the emphasis on functional movement, and I always feel stronger and accomplished at the end of every class. All of the teachers are so patient, enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and non-judgmental. I'm so grateful for Alkalign and would recommend it to anyone. read more

Maybe it's just because this place is right next to Peet's and I'm able to drink my morning matcha right before coming in, but out of all the barre classes I've tried I don't feel particularly challenged throughout the whole Align class but I definitely get sore in all the right places later on! The cardio classes are more challenging with a mix of cardio and strengthening. Try the Cardio + Recharge to release tight muscles after working them out; it's a 45 minute workout and 15 minutes using balls to work a specific area on the body. The instruction is usually pretty great and they are very hands on to make sure you've got the right form and engage the right muscles. I've taken a few classes here and there on ClassPass in the past but was able to purchase classes through MINDBODY now that I live in the area. Classes are a lot more crowded nowadays, so you may expect to feel lost in the crowd even though that's not the case. read more

I won a free class during one the block parties inLos Altos recently. I've done cross fit for a couple years and have been a member of the JCC since they opened. So I'm giving one star because I got hurt in the first week and asked for a prorated refund. The owner said no. I can understand that it would be unfair if I expected to get a refund if I didn't like the classes, but I'm asking for it because I got hurt the first week and it would take 6-8 weeks to recover which just seems too long to postpone my membership. Also stopping was from the advice if my podiatrist. And to be fair, I don't know if these classes were the cause of my plantar fasciitis but this was the only form of exercise I had need doing. But the owners feedback was no refunds and don't wear flip flops or run but still suggests that doing these exercises are beneficial and can be modified. I'm not sure how to modify the exercises when you have no foot support plus their instructors are not that helpful. Feedback on the instructors and experience signing up: When I first joined, I signed up for the first one month $99. I signed a waiver and gave my information and my cc. The person charged my credit card and put the credit to another person named someone completely different then my name. (btw the name in my cc is exactly the name of my email address) I then received an email addressing "Jane" and saying please ignore the payment made. I told them about it and figured it was fixed. Then a couple days later I get an email saying "Jane you are confirmed for so so so class. " again what's really strange is that my email is my first and last name and they keep referring to me as "Jane". And to make things worse they put my email address on "Jane Smith" account and the same login. Really? I took the first class and was intrigued; the first instructor I had wasn't that great, I couldn't understand her (she had the microphone too near) and wasn't very helpful but more focused on her voice and body not necessarily for teaching sake. The first 6am express class I took, the instructor stared about 10 minutes late as she told her story of her worries about her child being sick; now I have three kids and not to sound cold, but we were there to workout. And I had to be done so I can be be home by 7 so my husband can go to work. So a week into 5 classes I hurt my heel and see a podiatrist. I develop plantar fasciitis which is very painful and my first time. Doctor says I should not be walking or doing any form of exercise barefoot. Now the studio is clean and nice; I've only liked one instructor out of 5, Cathy, overall I have to say the other instructors aren't that helpful or as good in explaining the exercises. Anyway because my heal pain was getting worse so I asked to stop my membership and if she could prorate the refund. She said they don't do that. I was of course disappointed and and upset, but honestly I don't think for their price, the size of the studio is worth it. I'd rather pay for that price orange theory. I've gone to one class where there was about 20-25 people and I felt like everyone's ass was in my face. As an update, I have never fought a charge on my cc that I had used or wasn't a fraudulent charge. So I did and sent my doctors X-ray and recommendations and explained the situation and won. To be fair I prorated it and paid for the first week. Also the pain was due to bone spurs near plantar and heel. It's still very painful but wearing supportive slippers in the house and massages I'm able to without, of course definitely with shoes. If you have plantar fasciitis or any foot issues you definitely shouldn't go here. But to be honest I don't know why you'd without without shoes,it's needed support. read more

This review is for Katie's Align 101 class on Zoom because of the shelter in place. This is the first time I've taken a pilates class and I regret having waited so long. Katie was encouraging and surprisingly insightful given the challenges of running a remote class. Her personalized cueing was really helpful and the demonstrator was impressively coordinated with Katie. I have never been so conscientious about the position of my spine and that I have a lot to work on in stabilizing my core. I would definitely recommend the class if you are considering something new with your shelter in place time. read more

This is an excellent barre studio. Very unique and different from other barre classes I've taken. The owner is very passionate about ensuring correct alignment and safe but effective exercise. Instructors are friendly and care about their clients, both body and mind. I also love the flexibility of payment options (i.e. pay as you go, buy a class package, or buy a monthly/yearly membership and no expiration dates). I couldn't ask for a better barre studio. The class is not cheap unless you go very often and buy a plan that allows you to participate in an unlimited number of classes per month. If you feel you can only go to the beginner classes, then you don't really have that option because the beginner class is only given at most 3 times a week in each location. Most teachers are excellent, but some teachers are less good: with Andrea for example I felt sad because she didn't correct me at all while I know I am not that good. read more

I tried the Barre Align classes through ClassPass and I love them. I had Kira as an instructor and she was really helpful with adjustments throughout the class. She even sent me a postcard after my first class thanking me for coming - a nice touch! I just wish I could attend more than 3 classes per month but since it's CP I'm limited. The class is a bit tough if you're a beginner to barre, as it's unlike any other workout, but you get the hang of it after a while and Kira is good about helping new people. If you're looking for a class to really work your muscles - this is it! It's a lot of small movements that have big impacts. My legs were shaking halfway through the class and my arms were sore the next day. Most of the moves are body weight - you use small weights for a couple things and will also sometimes use a ball or block to support body weight moves. The studio itself is really nice, conveniently located in downtown Los Altos. There's a parking lot right next to the studio but also a lot of street parking on State St. They have a nice locker room/bathroom area with lockers that have locks attached. Be sure to bring socks to class - grippy socks recommended. read more

I just started going to the Menlo Park studio and I'm already a huge fan! The workouts are incredibly challenging. I literally feel like every muscle in my body has been addressed during class and is starting to tone and tighten before my eyes. I also love what it's doing for my posture. The instructors and staff are super friendly and the studio is meticulous. Alkalign also offers childcare which was a HUGE bonus for me. I can't say enough great things about this place. read more

I first started attending Alkalign (formerly Dailey Method) a few years ago. I've never been one for exercise in a class but since turning 40 I've realized that I crave the community aspect of working out. I so appreciate the patience and friendliness of not only the owner, but every instructor I've met. They correct my form so I know that I'm getting a workout and boy do I feel it afterwards. There are plenty of class options from 6am to 6pm and there is even a children's room for certain hours. The convenience of downtown Los Altos is great. I usually park in the 90 minute Safeway lot where there are always spots available. Plus- rewarding yourself with a Peets which is right next door is always a motivator. :) I would encourage anyone who has done barre or who hasn't a clue what barre is about to give it a try- you won't be sorry! read more

I tried an Alkalign barre align class yesterday afternoon through my ClassPass membership. I've taken a number of barre classes in Boston where I just moved from, and this was by far one of the best I've taken. Cathy was the teacher and she was so sweet and friendly. She emphasized form above everything else, and since I was new to class she came over a number of times to help with my form which was amazing. The environment was very supportive, and the workout was super challenging. I'm so sore today! I can't wait to go back again soon. read more

Finished my 30 day trial with Alkalign, and I just bough another membership package! Already noticed change in my posture and strength/tone in my behind! I've been able to maintain my muscle tone and enhance it in my arms even though we use very light, or no, weights. LOVE IT. FYI- seems like most instructors know my name now! I've always exercised, but the Alkalign classes tone, sculpt, empower & energize like none of the other classes/gyms I've taken or participated in in the past. Okay, I kinda feel like I need to leave a review for those that read these for info purposes. I took a CardioAlign class here last week. For perspective, I'm fit and play sports, and have done a variety of fitness classes (including barre classes) before. First, and most importantly, the instructor was not as good as she should have been about 1) displaying the correct moves and 2) correcting postures in students. There were multiple times when she was introducing a new move when she wouldn't even demonstrate it herself, so if you are new, you need to look around at the other students and find the one who you think is probably doing it "most correct". Even worse, from my perspective, was that one of the bars is against a non-mirrored wall, so when you are on that barre you can see nothing. I would have to pretty much guess at the move since I couldn't see anything on some of them - and there were a couple that I found out after that I'd been doing completely wrong, and the instructor hadn't corrected me (there were only 10ish people in the class). I actually ended up hurting my shoulder because of one of those times. That just shouldn't happen in any class like this. That aside, while the studio seems like it is a great fit for some people, it was not for me. It was noticibly less friendly than other places I've gone, and the "CardioAlign" really had no discernible cardio. I'm sure it was good for toning, but I honestly didn't feel like the class was worth my time. Again, the studio was not awful, and I'm sure would be the perfect level for some, but if you're looking for more of a challenge I might choose something else. UPDATE: I stand by my review. Again, I'm not saying this to be mean- I'm saying it to give people information that might be relevant to them. I feel the response to my review made it seem like I was some sort of newbie that wasn't ready for the class. The pace was fine, and had I done a slower one my comment about needing more of a challenge would have likely become more adamant. I do believe the instructor when I went was a sub, so perhaps that explains it, but she was not always displaying the moves. And did not correct me when I was doing bar pushups with my arms in the wrong position. If I'd been on a mirrored wall I would have been able to see and would have been able to correct myself, but the combination of inexperienced (I assume) instructor and non-mirrored wall was not good. I would agree that if you haven't gone before, realize that there is one non-mirrored wall and make your move to a mirrored one early when the class goes from floor to wall so you don't get stuck with that one. read more

I've been taking classes over a year and I'm hooked. Align is the basic class that tones and strengthens the whole body in a low-impact format. The class is designed to hit all the major muscle groups so you leave feeling balanced and ready to face the day. Cardio align is a great class if you want to get sweaty. Same moves as in the align class, just in a faster format. My favorite is the Recharge class where we use massage balls to roll out our muscles and workout any knots. The community is welcoming and friendly. I highly recommend Alkalign classes. read more

Wow - what a find! My friends have talked to me about trying it for over a year but I have resisted until last week. It seems easier to go out for a run and then I am sure to get a work out which I doubted was possible here. Surprise surprise - this is definitely a work out!!! I have gone three times in four days and feel many many muscles that I never have in years of running and swimming. In just a few short days my running seems improved too - I feel much more balanced, stronger, and like my entire body is working rather than just my legs. As others have reported, it is also a place where you feel immediately welcome even if you are completely uncoordinated (like me) and are challenged to hold the poses. Others in the class and the instructors are so patient and great about offering tips . The facility is extremely clean too-- it is an all around "happy place", and I can't wait to go again! read more
