I live down the road from this shop so I already knew it existed. A few years ago my father bought…read morea new car and handed down his BMW X3 to me. Went to the dealership (the one next town over) for a simple oil change. Within an hour I get text with a video from the dealership recommending $7000 worth of work. I of course declined and told them to just finish the oil change but when I picked up the car, you bet I drove straight to Montclair Motorwerks from there. Ken and his team took a look at the vehicle and while some of the repairs recommended by the dealership were legitimate, others weren't really needed. The honesty was refreshing. Turned out the vehicle did need some extensive work (thanks Dad). The car was ready within a few days and the price (which was still in the four figures to reflect the scope of the work done) was a fraction of what the dealership would have charged. Additionally I was very careless in leaving something extremely valuable in the vehicle. One of the technicians found it and turned it over to Frankie for safe keeping. Anybody with questionable morals could have taken it and I wouldn't have known. When I picked up the car, it was there for me and while I was of course embarrassed, I was grateful. I'm under no impression that BMWs are cheap vehicles to own and maintain. They aren't. But the high degree of trust I gained from my first encounter with Ken, Frankie an their team made Montclair Motorwerks my go-to since then.

But I'm going to pay it forward since I found them based on a YELP review. Initially when I called I had to leave a message because no one picked up the phone. I'm going to attribute that to them probably being on their lunch break. But after they returned my call I had no doubt I had found a keeper! I had arranged with Dennis to drop off my car in the morning and they would call me after they checked it out. First of all, they said I needed a new exhaust, new front tires and new front brakes and calipers. They said whoever had done my exhaust last (Agolia & Sons, BP) had performed a patch up job! For the nearly same price Agolia charged me for a "new exhaust", I got 2 front tires, new brakes and a new exhaust! Before I went to Fix N Fuel, I was thinking of buying a new car because I didn't feel safe in it. But now I feel I have my "baby" back. She may be over 300k miles, but she's running like a dream! The guys at Fix N Fuel were honest, reliable and for the quality of their work, charge very reasonable prices. It is a huge weight off my shoulders knowing I NOW have mechanics that I can trust and count on. I highly recommend this business!

If I could give zero stars, I would. This shop's negligence put my life in danger…read more I had my car towed to Park Street Automotive with clear symptoms of a critical suspension failure: a violent lurch to the left when braking, a loud rumbling, and a worsening steering wobble. They ignored these critical safety symptoms and diagnosed only a noisy exhaust. When I questioned this, they were dismissive and, after the repair, told me to "take it on the freeway for a spin and see what happens." I took it to another shop for a second opinion instead. They immediately found the real problem: the front control arm had failed and my wheel was literally about to fall off. The issue had nothing to do with the exhaust. A mechanic who fails to perform a basic safety inspection and tells you to "see what happens" with a failing front end is not someone who should ever be trusted with your vehicle or your safety.

I normally don't leave reviews, but this shop absolutely deserves one…read more We've been bringing our car here ever since we bought it, and over the years they've earned our complete trust. Even after moving away, we would often make the trip back just to have them inspect our car because we knew they would give us honest advice. A while back, a chain oil change shop told us we needed new brake pads. We came here for a second opinion, and they explained that the rust we were seeing was normal and would wear off with regular local driving. They were right. A year later, another shop again tried to sell us brake pads during an oil change. We immediately brought the car here, and after a thorough inspection, they told us the brakes still had about 2,000 miles left. That level of honesty is rare. Instead of recommending unnecessary repairs, they only suggest work that actually needs to be done. Their prices are fair, their workmanship is excellent, and most importantly, they genuinely care about their customers. If you're looking for a trustworthy mechanic, you can bring your car here with confidence. In an industry where it's hard to know who to trust, this shop has consistently proven that honesty still exists：）

My husband has been bringing his cars to this shop In West Orange for decades at this point and trusts them wholeheartedly to do repairs and perform maintenance. The other day, he told me that he goes here because they have a reputation of being honest and doing quality work at fair prices. I really rely on the car for work, so having the car in good shape is important. I want to feel confident and safe while driving the car each day and going out on the road. So I'll bring our car here for regular oil and filter changes. Recently, I brought the car over to the garage for a couple of jobs to be completed: rear brake pad and rotor service, front suspension ball joint and valve cover gasket replacements, and a wheel alignment. Very happy with the work!

Not only was the diagnosis absolutely correct, but it was explained in a way that actually made sense without talking down to me. Derrick and his team have been my mechanics since I moved to West Orange in 2018, and at this point I trust them completely with my cars. They're straight shooters. If something can wait, they'll tell you. If something needs attention now, they'll show you why. No pressure, no mystery charges, no unnecessary parts swapping. From a technical standpoint, their diagnostics have been consistently spot-on. They don't just throw parts at a problem hoping something sticks; they take the time to trace the root cause, whether it's electrical, drivetrain, or something more subtle that other shops miss. The work is done right the first time, and I've never had to come back for the same issue. Pricing is fair, turnaround times are realistic, and communication is excellent. They treat you like a long-term customer, not a one-time invoice. Shops like this are rare, and if you're looking for a place you can stick with for years, this is it. I recommend them without hesitation.
