We've been stopping at this place for over 20 years whenever we come back from Las Vegas. It used to be a fun tradition for our family -- a nice place to stretch our legs and enjoy the novelty of the stop. Unfortunately, the customer service has declined tremendously and has become borderline rude. During our visit today, our daughters wanted to use the souvenir penny machine, but it took their money and wasn't working. When I politely mentioned it to the cashier, "Vicky," her response was simply, "Yeah, it's broken," with no apology or concern at all. I suggested they may want to put up a sign so other customers don't lose money, and she just shrugged and tossed our purchased items toward us before dismissing us. It was a really disappointing experience, especially at a place we've enjoyed for so many years. Sadly, this will probably be our last stop here. This place is one of those stops you make on a drive from LA to Vegas or vice versa. They're famous for their beef jerky which comes in many flavors. After seeing the billboards and wanting some good jerky decided to stop at this quirky spot. At first it's so random it's actually quite fun to take pics outside and inside the store. Once inside it's a lot of alien paraphernalia, many is funny and they have a great selection of international drinks. The downside, the jerky is not quality and it's very expensive. If you were driving from Orange county to Las Vegas or Las Vegas to Orange county, you no doubt have driven through Baker, California. This is the home to the world's largest thermometer and Alien Fresh Jerky. I cannot begin to tell you how many times I have driven past this place but never stopped. Now, I like aliens just as much as the next guy, but it was one of those places that I really had no reason to top of. But let me tell you, I am so glad that I did. In addition to having probably the largest selection of beef jerky next to buc-ee's, this place has more alien stuff than you can shake a stick at. Honestly, this place really does look like it belong on the Vegas strip with its big LED signs and alien motif all throughout the exterior. Additionally, they are in the process of building a UFO hotel. I'm going to tell you this. I will be there as one of the first guests in line when this thing opens up. Let's talk about the jerky for a second, they're not kidding when they say it's fresh. I have purchased multiple bags here on multiple occasions, and I got to tell you this is some of the best beef jerky you can ask for. It's super tasty, and not like that really nasty hard stuff you buy out of gas station convenience store, this stuff really is fresh. Quirky stop next to the world's largest thermometer that's a great place to stretch legs on a road trip. They also have clean bathrooms! There's a few alien photo ops, and a lot of the merch and snacks inside are alien-themed. They also have a nice selection of hot sauces. We tried some kettlecorn and some jerky. There's art outside and a building in the back that's shaped like a space ship (although it was closed when I went). The store itself wasn't huge, but was packed with lots of alien-themed merch, interesting snacks, and their beef jerky products. The prices aren't cheap... Field Report from a Very Curious Earthling!! We pulled into Baker, CA to rest our human legs when...BAM!!! A full-on alien spaceship appeared to be crash-parked behind a building!!! Naturally, we followed standard alien-encounter protocol: investigate immediately!!!!!! Turns out it was an alien-themed jerky store, aka a delicious intergalactic outpost. Inside: peak sci-fi vibes, fun trinkets, photo ops that scream "I come in peace or pieces," lol and enough weird cool stuff to make you forget you're still on Earth!!! But let's talk about the real mission: the jerky!!! We sampled Lemon Pepper and Teriyaki. The Lemon Pepper absolutely abducted our taste buds... crazy flavorful, shockingly tender, and not the usual jaw-workout space leather. Soft, juicy, and clearly not made with Earth's inferior drying technology. Teriyaki was solid too, but Lemon Pepper is the chosen one!!! Suffice it to say they have come a loooong way from the modest little structure that once occupied the location many years ago. If you're looking for alien merchandise - or some unique jerky varieties including "abducted cow" - this store in the heart of Baker, CA is worth a visit. Not the cheapest jerky (but not too absurdly priced to turn those with a little leftover cash from Sin City away), the Alien Fresh store is an entertaining little pitstop.
