If you were driving from Orange county to Las Vegas or Las Vegas to Orange county, you no doubt have driven through Baker, California. This is the home to the world's largest thermometer and Alien Fresh Jerky. I cannot begin to tell you how many times I have driven past this place but never stopped. Now, I like aliens just as much as the next guy, but it was one of those places that I really had no reason to top of. But let me tell you, I am so glad that I did. In addition to having probably the largest selection of beef jerky next to buc-ee's, this place has more alien stuff than you can shake a stick at. Honestly, this place really does look like it belong on the Vegas strip with its big LED signs and alien motif all throughout the exterior. Additionally, they are in the process of building a UFO hotel. I'm going to tell you this. I will be there as one of the first guests in line when this thing opens up. Let's talk about the jerky for a second, they're not kidding when they say it's fresh. I have purchased multiple bags here on multiple occasions, and I got to tell you this is some of the best beef jerky you can ask for. It's super tasty, and not like that really nasty hard stuff you buy out of gas station convenience store, this stuff really is fresh. There's a few alien photo ops, and a lot of the merch and snacks inside are alien-themed. They also have a nice selection of hot sauces. We tried some kettlecorn and some jerky. There's art outside and a building in the back that's shaped like a space ship (although it was closed when I went). Field Report from a Very Curious Earthling!! We pulled into Baker, CA to rest our human legs when...BAM!!! A full-on alien spaceship appeared to be crash-parked behind a building!!! The Lemon Pepper absolutely abducted our taste buds... crazy flavorful, shockingly tender, and not the usual jaw-workout space leather. I highly recommend trying the Grass-fed jerky--specifically the Honey Teriyaki, Sweet & Spicy, and Peppered flavors. They aren't part of the store promotions, but they are gluten-free and taste really good; definitely worth a try. The alien cars ans alien theme, but its nothing to be in awe of inside. They have A LOT of overpriced Jerry with A LOT of flavors I don't like. Its not flavored well not any of the jelly is spicy. We usually buzz by Baker on our way to and from Las Vegas but made a stop on the way back this past April to take a look at the new structures being built at the Alien Fresh Jerky store site. Suffice it to say they have come a loooong way from the modest little structure that once occupied the location many years ago. If you're looking for alien merchandise - or some unique jerky varieties including "abducted cow" - this store in the heart of Baker, CA is worth a visit. Not the cheapest jerky (but not too absurdly priced to turn those with a little leftover cash from Sin City away), the Alien Fresh store is an entertaining little pitstop. I don't know when the new hotel/motel and snack bar are scheduled to open, but I give them credit for "milking" the alien theme for all its worth; I suppose I'll need to return when it's all in full operation. read more

Finally, checked off my bucket list! I absolutely loved it here! It was a lot more crowded than I thought it would be at 2pm on a Wednesday! Haha The employees were all very nice and welcoming, I made sure to leave a tip at the counter. The only thing I wish they had (that I couldn't find) were some decals and t-shirts with their logo, it's iconic! They have a bunch of alien, merch, and the jerky is really delicious - I've ordered different flavors at different times and it's always soft and fresh tasting. I've been going here since it opened in 2000. My grandparents used to pick me up for spring, summer, and winter break from Vegas to Santa Ana. So naturally we would stop there. I admit that it is a little pricey but I think it's delicious. Thet have a lot more flavors now than when they first opened. Some are dry and some are wet because of the flavors and seasoning.
