Received notice from the manager that if I want to renew my lease, they will increase the rent from $1810 to $2026. FOR A TINY STUDIO LESS THAN 500sqft. Not to mention their billing is astronomically high as well -- they charge you for water, trash, sewer, pest control (what pest control? I never see anyone do anything, and I work from home. The plants outside literally have white mites all over them), admin fee, and a service fee just to pay the bill not even using credit card. That's a full $50 extra charges. Plus a parking space fee $35, and if you have a pet, $50 per pet per month. Since I have two cats, that's $185 extra per month! This place is a money drain. The water has gone out more than TEN TIMES since I've been here, even shut off in the middle of taking a shower, no explanation why or when it will come back. I try to call the management for answers and THEY TURNED THE PHONE OFF goes straight to voicemail! never returned my call! Then I had to spend the whole day listening to guys hammering and drilling pipes the wall in my bathroom to fix a burst water main. I have been woken up more days than I can count by construction guys doing work 7am-5pm - hammering, drilling, sawing, talking & laughing loudly, using heavy machinery, using leaf blowers outside your window, scraping ladders on the floor - you literally cannot get any peace and quiet at this place. Constantly since I moved in there is always some guys working on the building or tearing apart some unit that someone moved out of, and it's noisy as F*** here. Get no prior notice that they have to paint my door and they show up 8am on a Saturday morning saying I need to leave my door open for a whole hour out of nowhere. The management has not been great since I've been here. When I moved in, there was a gas leak smell coming from the kitchen stove. I asked the manager to come check it out and he told me to send a video... of a gas smell LOL. He is gone now, but since then we have gone through 2 other managers. One of them would throw my problem back at me with a vague explanation and no follow through, and the other straight up ignored all my messages. Laundry room is gross and machines are old/run down. I see random crusty people come in from the street during the weekday afternoon to do their laundry there when no one will notice. One of the dryers became broken and every time someone used it it would make a horrible screeching noise. I asked maintenance to fix it and they said the machine wasn't theirs and they had to put in a work order for all of them bc they didn't know which machine it was -- dude, all you have to do is go in there and take a look.. I ended up putting in a work order with the company instead and luckily they came out and fixed it that week. Altogether this place sucks. It could be good but REMM group really overcharges and managers doesn't seem to care to take care of this property nor do they seem to care about you at all. Seriously stay away from this place unless you want to drain your money away. Unfortunate.

And my brother and his wife rent a WHOLE HOUSE in a nice area nearby for 2200 and that's a THREE BEDROOM!!! They are also allowed pets. Let's not forget the mailman mixing up the mail and packages not getting delivered. Packages getting STOLEN and supposedly "lost" because of THEFT. Nearby lots of Shopping Montebello shopping center, costco and many Alhambra shopping places. Issues are very diligently addressed all the time. I lived there almost 18 months. I would give high rating mainly due to the Manager (Ernest Haley) and his support person (Joey Catalano) of the property, both are very kind and reachable all the time (I mean literally after office hours also). I highly recommend this apartment to anyone seeking to lease a new home. As long as these guys are there you can live there happily with out any worries. Both are warm, giving building management a human face. I would love to see him train others in this profession and can envision him working for a huge real estate investment company, supervising many employees.

The people who work in the office are always extremely friendly and helpful. The building has its own cleaning and maintenance crews. Everyone does a wonderful job!! The building is in a lovely neighborhood in South Pasadena. I can walk to the library, the senior center, Trader Joe's, and numerous restaurants and coffee shops. I really don't need to drive anywhere. The other residents who live here are also very nice and friendly. I have made friends here. My grandchildren love coming here and playing at my apartment. I highly recommend Golden Oaks Apartments! It is wonderful in every way!!!

The laundry room is also very clean all the time, and it's really nice to have card readers at all machines, so there is no need for coins or refillable laundry cards. She has brought some calm and order along with a family vibe to the complex I feel because she understands us that have children and how important it is to live in peace and a decent apartment. Hoping all can remain as is if not better. It is refreshing and rare to have management make an effort to make sure and clarify when things need fixing or improved in our unit and follow up that all went well. Grounds are kept up, the little updates made to our unit help in the quality of living for my family and myself. Having decent, mature, professional and ethical management makes a world of difference.

There's too many negatives to put into 1 review, so I'll just list the main ones. (1) Maintenance requests: they will take 2-4 weeks to get back to you. Every single time we have submitted a maintenance request, we were prompted to set up an appointment with the next available being 2-4 weeks out. They usually give you a time frame (e.g., 2-5PM) and yet come past the time frame (e.g., no one arrives until 5:30 or 6pm), making me waste my time sitting at home for no one to come during my allotted time. (2) Part of the appeal that drew me here was the "dog-friendly" atmosphere. We were told during the tour there would be grass areas with doggie bags for our dog during walks. Yes, there's grass but for the entire year I lived here, the doggie bag station has never been refilled. There's dog litter everywhere because no one picks up after their dogs and my dog has gotten sick (vomit, loss of appetite) multiple times after walking her around ATS because the area is so disgusting/not well maintained. (3) People smoking everywhere despite signs that this is a non-smoking apartment community. (4) They will likely keep the majority (if not all) of your deposit upon moving out without a clear itemized receipt of each individual repair, leaving you wondering how they arrived at that amount. They sent me a receipt with just a total amount that was deducted from my deposit. They could have charged me $2000 or $2500 or any other amount. To this day, I have no idea how they arrived at the amount they charged me. To me, it seemed as if they already had my deposit in their possession and went to town with it, took full advantage. Who knows, they lack clarity and operate very sneakily. (5) Water leaks. The parking structure (and other parts of the building) is filled with frequent water leaks and water damage. Remember the condo building in Florida that collapsed from unresolved water damage? I write this review to prevent any other person from making the same mistake I made. I rented here without any reviews to guide my decision. Use this to guide your decision. To tell you to beware of this place would be a complete understatement.
