BLACK MOLD UNDERNEATH KITCHEN SINK 3/16/23
Lauren R.

DO NOT MOVE HERE! Save your family's health and your own by NOT MOVING here! The management is terrible at taking accountability and is very negligent on taking their work orders and tenant complaints seriously. In October, a piece of rebar randomly fell through the ceiling when they were working on the apartment upstairs and it hit me and my service animal. I have also been dealing with a mold issue since December. Mary told me it was, "dirt," on the wall. We fought it and they finally brought in a machine to detect moisture through the wall and found out the mold was, "severe," but it took nearly a whole month of complaining. They hired a contractor to basically demolish my bedroom and bathroom, yet the mold keeps regrowing... Even after they gutted the bathroom and the bedroom. I also found more fuzzy black mold underneath my kitchen sink and behind my dishwasher, yet they literally reassured me that this, "would never happen again," and that they had hired a "special cleaning crew" to come in and clean it professionally... Yet the mold keeps coming back! I happened to be at the trash can one day and noticed my neighbor was throwing something away that appeared to have mold... So I asked her, "is that mold?" She said, "yes it is." So we talked and she said she had filed a work order as far back as July of 2022 and it still hasn't been addressed! So I did some door knocking and I got to know my neighbors and found out that even more neighbors have mold inside their units and the property management fails to take care of this issue. The regional manager from the REMM group offered me another "partial reno," to move into (229 building apartment 1), that was supposedly, "ready for immediate move in," while they fixed my apartment, (again), but when we walked through it, there was a puddle of water on the floor leading into the kitchen with mold on the bottom of the baseboard, mold on the hoses under the kitchen sink and IN the dishwasher hose, a leak in the shower, a broken shower head, no bathroom fan to take out the moisture and a broken toilet paper holder. There were also signs of previous water damage in this, "partial reno," and the property manager, Lucy said that it was, "not going to be ready for at least another week." So when I expressed one of my terms of acceptance for the "partial reno," I said I wanted them to provide a mold inspector, from a company of my choosing me to do a mold inspection, that way there is no bias. I wanted it to be verified that there is no mold in this "move in ready apartment." Yet now, instead of addressing my terms, I received a letter back essentially saying they wanted to "terminate our relationship," (mind you, I'm still in the middle of my lease,) instead of addressing my terms, and the underlying issue at hand. My son and I have health issues and mold is a problem for us. So please do yourself a favor and save yourself a headache (literally)! Don't move here or into any property that is managed by the REMM group!

Mary, the property manager, is very outgoing and helpful in the rental process. The property is clean, as well as the apartments. Mary does her best to keep the apartments in very good condition, and the prices are worth it for the neighborhood and featured amenities (fitness center, pool, laundry on site). Excited to live here!

It's a quaint corner plaza almost like a hidden gem. We came here to eat at All That Shabu... you must try this fantastic AYCE individual hotpot! Tons of different meats and veggies. Everyone should be present before starting... only 90 mins dining limit. Anyway, this plaza also has Burlington, Sprouts, Five Below plus casual restaurants for pizza, burgers & more. Free outdoor and covered parking are available. And I saw luxury apartments within the same lot. Nowadays that's the going theme... good compact living space with conveniently located shopping, dining, and entertainment within walking distance. That's my kind of place one day! I can do without shopping, but show me the food and entertainment LOL!!! P.S. I will post photos later. I have to get them from my computer since they are no longer on my phone. Thanks for your patience.

There's the 2 story Burlington Coat Factory if need be, the Sprouts for when I need to get greens for my bearded dragon, Wushiland so I can use my gift card, Sephora for when I need to get gift cards for maids or idols as gifts, 5 Below for cute Squishmallow or other items, there's a pretty decent Bank of America with several ATM's too, Mikomi Sushi which is a decent place with pretty good happy hour, The Habit, Wingstop, Blaze Pizza, Kyoto Gyukatsu, All That Shabu, and much more. You're also in walking distance of so many great cafe's, restaurants, a movie theater, and other businesses too (Indie Toy, Gallery Nucleus, etc.).

I've been living here for 8 months now, and it's been a great experience overall…read more The office staff is always helpful and informative, and maintenance is quick to respond, even on weekends. It's honestly refreshing to have maintenance actually answer emergency calls! Management is also very prompt and respectful of residents' privacy, even around shared spaces like the grill areas, pool and gym. The pool is always nice and clean, and the neighborhood itself is quiet and calm. Unfortunately, we are near an area where there's occasionally a lot of loitering and suspicious activity, so I definitely recommend not leaving personal belongings in your car or outside. My kids' bike was recently stolen because I left it out overnight. There is security walking around 24/7, but being in LA, thieves move fast.. so just stay vigilant like you would anywhere else in the city. Aside from that, my kids, my Betsy , and I are truly loving it here!

But ever since they hired security, it hasn't been a problem for the last two years. They even added locks to the dumpsters to prevent dumpster diving and from having people stay in there overnight. Overall, not a shabby place to live, especially as a first apartment!

One of them was already out before the outage -- I know because it's been stuck in the exact same spot between floors for days. This happened before, and the elevators were down for months. There are elderly residents in this building who physically cannot climb multiple flights of stairs. I honestly don't understand how this is considered acceptable or how the City of Monterey Park allows it to continue. There are only two elevators in the building, and somehow both are broken at the same time. How does that even happen? It's like owning two cars and having both unusable simultaneously. People always ask why I stay here. The truth is the location is extremely convenient, so I put up with a lot. That doesn't mean I'm not going to complain about serious issues like this. I also noticed that, out of all the apartment complexes listed on Yelp in the area, this one has some of the lowest ratings -- and for many different reasons.

I had to take them to civil court for not providing an itemized list of things that needed to be fixed along with their cost to fix it. Amenities are non existent and most of the shops are vacant, which defeats the purpose of living in a luxury shopping area. Staff turnover is high so they're mostly inexperienced.
