I ordered sandwiches and a salad from a.s.s. for a forestry workshop. I heard rave reviews from everyone in attendance. People have come to expect crappy subs from subway and Jimmy John's at work meetings. They were blown away by real chunks of steak, caramelized onions, brie, homemade pickles, and other details that made these assorted subs brilliant. Not sure what I am missing, but I am not overly impressed with this place. It is definitely dumpy looking. That could be overlooked if the food were amazing. Sandwiches and salads are ok, but often give me a stomach ache. Not sure why? Soups are often creamy and rich. Would like to see some lighter varieties. My husband and I have passed this place numerous times and have always seen a lot of cars and commented that we needed to try it...OMG!!! So glad we finally did!!! Amazing subs! Seriously the best around. We had the Capone and it was absolutely delicious. The meat is fresh and sliced a bit on the thicker side so you really taste all of the layers. The sub was warm and toasty with fresh bread and fresh vegetables. We also had the fries, which were crispy and delicious! We can't wait to go back to try more of the subs on the list! Hands down the best kept secret for subs in the burbs!! I have been a loyal customer of the Sub Shop ever since I can remember. I have ordered the Yankee Doodle almost exclusively for the past 20 years. While I have tried a few others, the irony is I would never order a ham sandwich from any other sub place....I don't really like ham. There is something about the honey mustard that keeps me coming back! They have the delightful plastic cheese for their cheese fries, just what I want out of cheese fries. The fries have a seasoning mix on them and oooft, they are quite moreish. As an added bonus, they now serve my favourite brand Great Lakes potato chips, made in the lovely city of Traverse City! Great sandwiches are worth the wait! ASS has great subs, soups, cakes, and fries, but you will not obtain this wonderful food over a 30 minute lunch break unless you call ahead. This place is really good. It's definitely a hole in the wall but one of my favorites. The Al Capone is their signature sandwich and is what I usually get, I've tried a few other things on the menu and have never been disappointed. The food is 5 star quality, my only reason for giving it 4 stars instead is that it's a little bit on the expensive side and I think that the sandwiches have gotten a little bit smaller. If you haven't been here, it's definitely worth trying. read more

BEST subs around! I love A.S.S. because they are unique and not a chain. We've been catering subs for our family parties for 19 years and always get compliments on the awesome taste and quality. Yes they are pricey, but well worth it. They are very accommodating and have opened early to allow me to pick up trays for my WI clients who appreciate how great the food is. The subs are exceptional. There are a large amount of fillings in them and everything is very fresh. I found myself full after the first half of the Italian sub and had a readymade delicious mid-day stack to take with me. Ordered catering for a bridal shower for 30 ladies and the sandwiches and salads were absolutely delicious. Very nicely served on trays all wrapped and ready to go. Picked up in the morning and everything was ready on time. Worth every penny and in my opinion a great value considering the size of the sandwiches and salads. More then ample portions. I have never been here and wanted to try due to the high reviews. My husband ordered bbq grilled chicken sandwich and I opted for the chicken Florentine converted into a salad. Both chicken items were so dry you could not chew them . I had asked to omit mushrooms and they were placed on the side. I asked for my chicken to be placed on a bed of lettuce and I got this huge mound of spinach. The dressing given doesn't go with a spinach salad. The guy behind the counter looked mad like we were inconvencing him. Way overpriced for what you get. I hope I don't get sick. Also , I guess sides are seperate. Was not asked if we wanted fries or chips with the sandwich. Won't be going back there. I thought it was a family run business. read more

Sandwiches are very good. Fries are also very tasty. However it is very expensive for a sandwich. You will spend more than you expect on a sandwich. Also the wait for the food tends to be very long. You can call it in and it wont be ready twenty minutes later. Also, they don't want to fix their errors. One time when we got carryout they did not want to fix their mistake. What wasn't wrong?? My Philly steak tasted like extra virgin olive oil. Made with rough Italian beef--not even the right kind of meat. All of the veggies were on one side of the sandwich in a clump. Best place to get a sub. A huge step up from bigger chain sub shops. Ingredients are always fresh. I have tried all their subs and honestly there is not one I didn't like. Not only are their subs amazing but their soups are tasty too. My favorite is the new England clam chowder, wow! After eating here, eating a sub anywhere else does not compare. This place is by far the home of my favorite sandwich (a submarine.) I have never had a bad sandwich, my favorite by far is the Monterey Chicken, be sure to get a side of french fries as the seasoning is a perfect compliment to the sub. Can't say enough good stuff about this place! My personal favorite is the Al Copone, but I've had others and they're all good! Not your average sub, with lettuce, tomato, blah blah blah...they go out of their way to make the subs delicious. Calling ahead might be a good idea if you're short on time. Place is pretty popular! I'm so glad this place hasn't been on Diner's Drive-Ins and Dives because it's still my little secret. Ok, lots of people know about it but you don't have to wait in a line around the building! This is a family owned business with flat out good food! It may take an extra dollar and a few extra minutes to make your sub but it's well worth it for the quality product you get! My favorite is the Californian sub. They have a surprisingly large menu for a place that is so small so everyone is sure to find something. read more

I ordered the california sandwich. It was a chicken sandwich with cheddar, honey mustard, lettuce, tomato, etc. I dont know if they messed up or something because the sandwich was waaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyy too sweet. I dont know why the other reviews were saying the sandwiches are huge because the sandwich i had was kinda small. maybe around 8 inches at most. I liked the bread though and it was obviously fresh baked in house. I will defintely give this place another try because the other reviews suggested that their other sandwiches are terrific. definitely loved the bread so maybe their other choices are really good. Not the california though. read more
