I read a few negative reviews about this joint that sparked my interest.......first off.....its a hole in the wall and for those in the know, the best food can be found in these hidden gems. Had soup and chicken wings. The soup I had was disappointing. It was creamy seafood soup. Was not hot. It was luke warm and had a really fishy taste. There was 1 big clam in it and croutons on top. Did not taste home made. The Mr had chicken soup. It looked home made and was much hotter than mine. The calamari was rubbery and the sauce had no taste. The chicken wings were perfect. They do not care for AFRICAN AMERICAN PEOPLE IN their establishment. Served white table, who arrived at least 25mins after us. Specified meat well done, came out medium rare and just forgot to put one order in. Had to go to bar for refill because Waitress never came back to table. First time trying this place, and all I can say is Yumm!!! I had the grilled salmon, was cooked to perfection. Only drawback is that it contains bones so be weary of that. The dish usually comes with rice and French fries, but I substituted for steamed veggies with no issue. I heard their garlic veggies are great, so I will try that next time. I also ordered a whole BBQ chicken for later, and boy did I get more than I asked for. The portion size is plenty for a day or two of left overs. The price is great for the amount of food you receive as well. All I want to know is what they season their food with, I need that in my personal kitchen when I can't make it here to eat. To me, this is the best Portuguese BBQ in Elizabeth --price-for-pound-for-flavor. What does that mean? For what you pay, what you get, and how it tastes; Algarve's the best. She has glasses, about 5'3" white and around 260lbs. She was unkind, rude, and with attitude. I ask for a 1 Ribs combo and 1 chicken combo and 2ltr soda to eat outise the resatauran with my 8 family members. I didn't get plates, forks, or cups when i aske her for the cutlery. She literally gave me 4 of each saying that I can only get 4 for order. And try to sell me the cutlery i was missing. After my family and I ate, we had some leftover so i went back inside to ask for a leftover container which she told me it was $1 dollar for it. I just walked away. We went for lunch with mother in law. My girlfriend ordered lamb chops (special of the day). They were a few small pieces with hardly any meat. The mustard sauce tasted like pure mustard out of a jar. The vegetables were overcooked and soggy. We ordered a shish kabob for my mother in law with beef and shrimp. I could've used a chainsaw to cut the beef - it was tough as shoe leather. Let's just say the shish kabob was not too appetizing. I had some chicken dish (chef's suggestion) which was just ok. It was served with Portuguese rice and fries. The rice was kind of soggy, and the fries were worse than some fast food fries I've had - not good at all. Also, my girlfriend ordered a glass of wine and the waiter forgot it, so I had to get up to ask another waiter for it. By the way, the place was empty. Waiter never checked on us throughout the meal. The service is horrendous. It feels like we had to ask the waiter to make each and every move. I don't know how many times I had to look for the waiter reminding him of the refills my group requested minutes prior. I had Garlic shrimp for appetizer, Chicken Shish Kabob with Spanish potatoes and steamed veggie and a Serradura for dessert.
