I took my friend here for her bachelorette party and wedding hair. The salon def has style by the looks of it. The staff is just very inexperienced. I can't even say it's a small town thing because I've been to many small towns. Had my hair down all over the United States and if you invest in your staffs education on hair and cosmetology then it shows. We asked for braids and got something that I could have done while driving down the Casey going 80. (Which you shouldn't do). I feel compelled to write a review about my facial I had today at the Alexander's Salon & Spa located in Scranton, PA. I will start by saying that this was my 3rd Dermasweep "facial" or "procedure" that I've had with Alexander's, one other time (also in Scranton) and the other in Wilkes-Barre. This was by far the worst. The service is listed as 60 minutes and today, from start to finish, was 30 minutes. When I was taken into the room for my facial, D asked me if I was having the Dermasweep treatment only. I'm not sure why I was being asked this, but, yes, I was having the Dermasweep. There was a facial cleanse with lukewarm water, NO facial steam, NO oil, just a cleanse followed by a washcloth wipe off and then the Dermasweep machine and moisturizer. This was all of 30 minutes (which included the time she took me into the room to undress and then redress). When I was checking out, I asked the receptionist if perhaps I booked the wrong appointment, maybe an add-on treatment instead of the facial or maybe I had miscommunicated my appointment with the facialist. She responded no, that the Dermasweep is not a facial and simply a treatment. I informed her that the procedure states it is 60 minutes and that from start to finish it was about 30, maybe a few minutes less, and she stated that from start to finish, including prep, it's actually about 45 minutes. So she basically told me I was wrong, even though I was clearly only in the facial room for 30 minutes and the procedure on their website says 60 minutes. It felt rushed. Aside from the normal sweeping with the machine, this was a no frills procedure and was not very relaxing. Again, it was 30 minutes when I paid for 60 minutes. The other 2 Dermasweeps I've had previously were full, 60 minute, experiences, with stream, oil cleanse, etc. Either these people don't care about their jobs or simply chose to rush through and not provide a good client experience, which should be expected. I was then asked if I wanted to book another facial. No, I will not be back and I suggest others reading this review about "facial treatments" here in the future. I am not one to leave negative reviews, but after my experience at this place, I felt the need to. I was visiting Scranton from Philadelphia for my brother's wedding along with his fiance and her maid of honor. I had made appointments for the three of us to get our nails done the day before the wedding. Unfortunately, we were unfamiliar with the parking situation around the salon and we were about ten minutes late for our appointments. We didn't have the chance to call because we drove separately and we were trying to find a place to park. When we walked in we immediately apologized for being late. The woman we dealt with at the desk told us that they could no longer serve us because we were late and the nail technicians we were supposed to work with had moved on to their next appointments. I asked her how that could be possible after only ten minutes when I assumed they had allotted a certain amount of time for us. She told me that they went ahead cancelled our appointments after we were a few minutes late because their guests "always arrive early and they like to sit in their lobby and wait." What? That is the dumbest answer I have ever heard. We were then told that we should go to the nail salon in the mall across the street. Not exactly the same experience I was looking to treat my future sister-in-law to, but I have to say their customer service was significantly better than what I had experienced at Alexander's. If you decide to go here, make sure you give yourself plenty of time to sit in their waiting room beforehand if you want the privilege of paying for their services. read more

Went to get my haircut for the first time since moving to NEPA from Astoria Queens and I must say that this place is a gem! My hair is kind of difficult to cut correctly and Teri knew what to do. It's been steadily going downhill. The prices are not appropriate for the mediocre services. It's full of young looking-just out of beauty school girls. They seem More into each other, their phones, and gossip than the customers. It used to feel chic and stylish coming here and now it just seems cheesy and over priced for what you get. Uncomfortable haircut with the girl gossiping about her coworkers behind me. And the haircut wasn't even great. Very plain. I had a Brazilian wax here today. I paid $65 for 10 minutes of verbal and physical assault. I have had many Brazilians spanning the east coast over the past decade and this experience stands out as humiliating, dehumanizing and frankly stunning. I am accustom to a friendly demeanor, privacy disrobing and a gentle yet thorough 35-45 minute waxing. Nope. Not with Connie. This woman had me take my skirt off in front of her and crawl onto a table. She then examined my area and told me it was a "mess" and that I should not have trimmed before my visit. I laughed lightly and replied "Ahhh yeah, sorry! It was getting unruly. It's still waay longer than necessary - it should be fine!" but she continued, angrily, that it was "stupid" to pay someone to clean it up and trim myself and that I was going to have damage to my skin. I nervously said "I'm sorry, just do the best you can?" as I lie half nude on a table with my legs in a diamond shape. A stranger putting hot wax on your private area makes you inherently vulnerable - this woman was verbally scolding me and wildly tearing at my area with wax. This lasted for 10 minutes as I tried really hard to squeeze my eyes shut and not cry from embarrassment. I was in shock. I paid the $65 and walked out exactly 13 minutes after I walked in. This is not the norm in Brazilian waxing. This is unprofessional and honestly insane. I have had spray tans at this spa and they have been excellent - but their Brazilians are back alley and brutal. read more

Being from the city, I was super freaked out that it was so difficult to find a place that could accommodate a bridal party that had seven girls, all with different complexions and hair textures. We walked in, they had a team waiting for us, we all sat in a chair immediately and EVERYONE came out looking perfect! For 20.00 for a manicure I have had lots better. No scrub, the hand massage was lame and the whole thing was rushed. It was clear the young lady wanted to head out of work. I will definately look for alternatives. Next day went back for facial. I specifically asked for a collagen facial and wanted a peel. What I got was a lovely woman who had just finished beauty school and I was her first ever professional client. The whole two day Alexander's experience left a bad taste in my mouth. I live in CT but grew up in PA and went to The U of S - Alexander's is still my go-to salon. Any place other than Scranton you would pay hundreds of dollars for the same service! I always stop whenever I come home to visit my family. I have been going to Teresa since she first began her career there, she does a beautiful job with haircuts, blow outs, special event stylings and makeup. She will always give you honest advice with styles and is a blast to visit with. Alexander's spa and waxing services are OK - I've had better and only visit for the hair services. I recently paid $140 for a haircut in Stamford and it is nothing like what I receive at Alexander's! read more

I got a hair cut today and the experience was absolutely wonderful. I wanted to get a drastically different hairstyle, "graduated bob" after having really long hair. Tara was very supportive and helpful. She did an excellent job, she gave me a longer length in the front like I wanted, with gorgeous layers in the back. She recut the back of my hair about three times to get exactly what I wanted. I've never felt so comfortable with any hairstylist on my first visit, but I can't imagine going to anyone else to maintain this beautiful and chic hairdo. When I was living near Scranton many years ago I would go to Alexander's all the time. So I decided to take my friend there for one of Alexander's spa pedicures. That turned out to be a bad decision. The two women doing the pedicures talked to each other nearly the entire time. When my pedicurist would talk, she would stop working on my feet, finish her thought, then go back to what she was doing. I wanted a really relaxing soothing time for my friend and I. It was anything but that. When it was time to check out I told the supervisor at the front desk my displeasure. She gave me two $5 vouchers for "my troubles". I thought that was disrespectful as well. Truthfully the pedicure was only worth $5!!! I will never go back again. There are much better and more professional places in northeast PA. read more

Alexander's has been my salon and spa choice for decades. I now live out of state, but book an appointment every time I'm am in visiting family. I will never have services done at Alexander's again. Today, I had a colour treatment done with balayage highlighting techniques. The stylist gave me virtually no consultation (first time I've had this stylist). She only colour treated the lower portion of my hair. It was obvious I had roots coming in, and have graying hair. She never touched it, and never asked about it. I asked and she said it wasn't included. So a full price colour treatment only includes half the hair? I had to ask her to colour my hair near the roots. I was then billed for multiple full colour service treatments. The manager tried to tell me a complete lie about the technique to justify the charges as a so called a-la-cart. For reference, balayage and ombré are not the same thing, nor is either colouring style typically achieved using a single colour for the process. This is the same type of colour treatment I've have gotten for years, and have booked the same treatment at salons all over the country, never had this happen. Further more, I have worked for one of the biggest most respected cosmetology companies in the nation. Please, don't assume your client doesn't know better. If I pay over two hundred dollars for my hair then I better have hair that justifies for that. Luckily, the manager did finally take one of the charges off, but only after argument. If you pay for the best, you should get the best, but that's not the deal here. I was not in for a root touch up. I was there to get a Full colour service using balayage highlighting. I was charged for a separate root touch up because the stylist only did half of my colour service. You miss understand that the question is not what bayalage is, it is a matter of only receiving a half service and then charged for additional services to fix the error of the stylist. read more

I have been going to Alexander's for the past couple months for all services. I get a massage every week with Heather! She is so kind and personable that I end up talking to her the whole time!! She does great services and gives the best massage ever! I get a deep tissue massage and full body cupping!! She also uses hot bamboo sticks. She helps me recover quickly and I feel amazing when I leave!! When you go for an appointment request Heather, you will not regret it!!! It didn't used to be nearly as expensive or large as it is now, but I continue to go back because my stylist, Maria, is consistent and seems to always be working. Brea did an amazing job with my hair. She made the perfect color for me and ensured I was comfortable with every step of the process. She cut my hair wonderfully as well. I don't like to lose any of my length but want movement and body to my hair and she pulled it off amazingly well. I can still out my hair in a pony or bun without the use of headbands or Bobby pins to hold my bangs up but have great layers and a real style to my hair. If you are going to go here, ask for Brea. This Salon and Spa is amazing. I am new to the area and needed a great colorist to do my highlights. Brea did an amazing job! She chose just the right color and did a spectacular job with my highlights. She also styled my hair beautifully. I have lots of gray, and she strategically covered the gray with just foil highlights. My husband loves my new look! I also got a pedicure and was equally impressed with my experience in the nail salon. The entire staff treated me with the utmost respect and made me feel like a Queen. I have had my hair done in top NYC salons and I would put Alexander's Salon and Spa on par with those salons. A perfect place to escape for a day of pampering. Brea is the best! read more

If you are looking to use this salon for your wedding, I recommend finding a different salon. As a company they weren't up front with me on the time schedule, they were very unorganized throughout the entire booking process, and rude the morning of my wedding. In trying to get Alexanders to my wedding I was provided with two very different price lists, and two different stylists emailed me two different start times, that took some phone tag and coordination to get correct. Then, when I tried to call and pay for the services, no one knew what I was talking about and I had to call three times to just pay them. The whole process was frustrating and unorganized. To top it all off, after agreeing that 11am was a good start time for seven people's hair and makeup with two stylists, the coordinator then switched it to 9am 'just to be safe.' The stylists came to my venue and we were late for the 9am start time by 10 min because we were finishing breakfast. In those 10 min, I received a passive aggressive phone call from one of the stylists that was on site, and then while we were walking over to them, from the salon telling me we needed to get started right away because they needed to leave at noon. At no point in the booking process did they inform me that they were starting at 9am because they needed to leave at noon. My wedding wasn't until 4:30. If I knew that the reason they switched it to 9am was to accommodate their schedule, and that it wasn't because it was going to take that long to do our hair/makeup, I would have picked a different salon. I got married at a summer camp so while everyone else was enjoying the waterfront and activities, we were sitting in a room with our hair and makeup done at noon and watching our curls go flat. It was a very subpar experience day of, extremely unorganized for the entire booking process, and definitely the worst vendor for my wedding. My intuition was to find a different salon when they sent me two very different price lists at the beginning of this process, but I didn't because I really liked the one stylist, well the stylist I liked no longer works there, and I wish I had found a more organized, up front and pleasant salon to work with instead of this one. read more

Our spa pedicures were absolutely amazing. When we left to pay I smudged my toenail. My tech saw what I had done, ran upstairs and got the bottle of polish, and came to the reception desk to fix it for me. Living in Philadelphia makes it tough to visit this awesome salon as much as I would like to, however, whenever I head home, I try to get in with Christian- he's amazing, super talented and can do no wrong in my eyes. However, I am usually only in for a day or two and our schedules never seem to mesh up or he's booked- to no surprise! He's awesome! Let me say, I have tried many different "city" salons in both NY and Philadelphia and Alexanders still tops my list. The stylists are extremely knowledgable and talented. Prices are reasonable and the retail section is home to some of my favorite products (homemade soaps and the Voluspa candles are must with every visit!) This last trip up home for me, I tried to get in with Christian but we was off so the receptionist recommended Caty. I had a not so perfect dye job done by my usual stylist in Philadelphia and wasn't 100% thrilled. I decided to go darker with a red-toned ombre. I showed Caty a picture and she nailed it! Have been receiving so many compliments and I absolutely love the color!!! I am so happy with the results! Will only be getting my hair done by her and Christian from now on. For about four years I've had major upper-back pains and was given a gift certificate for a deep-tissue back massage in hopes of a cure. The certificate included a 15-minute herbal steam and a 60-minute massage. I made an appointment a day in advance for 10:00AM. I arrived right on time, contrary to the advice given me by the receptionist. This posed no problem and I was promptly whisked away through endless darkly-lit halls to a locker and changing room. The area was not busy and the quiet background music was relaxing. Upon meeting my masseuse (I believe her name was Christine), I was introduced to the room. The steam was very relaxing - it felt good to have my skin's pore opened, something that seems so rare in the winter. The herbal steam smelled nice and felt good on my skin. I was able to decide the temperature via thermostat. The transition from steam to massage was somewhat awkward. It was my first massage, so I didn't really know what to do at first. With some help from my masseuse though, I figured everything out :) The deep-tissue massage included my neck, hands, arms, feet, legs, and back. A mere 15 minutes were spent on my back, but I could certainly feel my knots being released. After the massage I was led to another room that was filled with plush chairs and relaxed lighting. There I was offered any drink I could think of: coffee, tea, water, white or red wine, orange juice. It was a nice place to sit and gather myself. I never felt rushed, though there was another massage scheduled after me (I found out later.) It was, overall, a great experience, but it didn't fix my back problem (I ought to see a chiropractor). I only wish she would have spent more time on my upper back. The store downstairs is filled with many body products, and I purchased two bars of soap (cut for me) - I love both of them. I really recommend Alexander's, and from my limited knowledge, they seem to be the best spa in the area! read more

I was able to schedule three facials at the same time for myself and two guests on Saturday August 31st. We all had a wonderful experience. The staff at the reception are friendly & welcoming. The ambience is serene. I had my facial with Mia- she did an excellent job, and the other girls were equally pleased with Norma and Paige. The treatment includes a lovely hand and foot massage. I have searched for a number of years for a spa that is more interested in providing me with a relaxing, enjoyable experience rather then getting me in and out the door so they could book more clients. I found what I was looking for at Alexander's. The staff really is wonderful. They take the time to make sure you are comfortable (and sincerely mean it), they ask you what outcomes you would like to see from any of the services you are having done, and put in the effort to make sure you get those results, even if it means going slightly over the allotted time. Jenis, the esthetician listened to me when I told her about previous facials I had, what I disliked and liked about them, and tailored a facial for me. It should also be noted that I have extremely sensitive skin and allergies and Jenis has always taken the time to read the ingredients on products to make sure they wouldn't irritate my skin. If you suffer from any sort of skin problem you also know that just putting cream upon cream on your face won't help your skin in anyway. The facials at Alexander's are more then just putting a cleanser then a moisturizer on your face and sending you out the door. The manicurist Juanita was a doll. My nails have never looked better. Again she, like Jenis, took the time to give me the experience I wanted. Women go to a spa for the overall experience and to relax. Alexander's has it correct. You grow your business from properly treating your clients and paying attention to their individual needs, not booking as many clients as you can in one day. That doesn't establish returning clients.
