I've been getting a massage here for years however the massage rooms are not sound proof and you can hear everything everyone is doing and talking while trying to relax getting a massage, especially if you're in one of the front rooms. Just got a gel manicure. Had to ask to have a full manicure performed to take care of my cuticles but all the person did was soak my hands in water and push the cuticles back. She cut my skin on multiple fingers and I think it was because her nails were super long so she couldn't get a good angle on filing my nails. She also couldn't get my old color off in the edges of my nails. She didn't cut my nails, didn't even ask. Didn't ask what shape either. I specifically asked for thin polish layers because I have issues with lifting and she did uneven, thick layers that resulted in a weird bubbling effect?? I touch my one nail and it's like getting a bubble out from under your iPhone screen. What a waste. They also stopped allowing you to tip using a credit card. I wasn't able to tip (yes I was going to despite my crummy manicure). Only giving it one star because the place is really beautiful but man are they snobby here. You're in Scranton, not New York or LA... stay away. read more

I had an excellent deep tissue massage last week with Gina and overall great experience at this spa! It felt like I was able to get away and relax without actually leaving Scranton and I felt so refreshed afterwards! Their facials must be just as good as their massages because when I tried to book one last week they were booked out for weekend facial appointments until nearly June! This is the LAST place I would go to get services done for a wedding, or services for anything, really. The bride was given a quote for each bridesmaid based on the services they wanted done. I had requested a gel manicure, regular pedicure, hair and makeup and was quoted $165 on her contract. The bride was told her party had the salon from 9am-2pm the day of her wedding and that those getting fewer services could come later in the morning so they weren't waiting all day. When the bride called a few days prior to confirm, she was told a few services she had already been confirmed for couldn't be squeezed in, one of which was my pedicure. When I was getting my hair done, the woman curling my hair (who also coordinated everything with the bride) was talking negatively and unprofessionally about the bridal group to her coworker, with full knowledge that I was part of the bridal group. I later found out she was very demanding and condescending toward the bride telling her to call all the people who hadn't arrived right at 9am and tell them to get there immediately "or else they're not getting anything done." I can understand if there was a miscommunication but there is never a reason to speak to a bride or demand something from a bride on her wedding day. The entire morning I watched several stylists sitting down and chatting. There were multiple opportunities for them to work on the girls already there but they insisted on waiting for those who hadn't arrived and follow a schedule they had made without the bride's knowledge. They explained to her that everyone had a scheduled appointment but that day was the first she'd heard of this. When it was time to pay, I was charged $170. I asked for clarification and was told I was charged the following: $85 for curled hair, $50 for makeup and $35 for a gel manicure. Since we were being rushed out, I paid, tipped and left. I called a few weeks later and asked the woman who answered how much it would cost to get my hair curled, and not washed. She stated "$10 to $20 depending on the stylist and length of your hair." I asked why I had been charged $85 for the same service. She repeated several times that this is because I was part of a wedding party. I can understand an up-charge but not an 800% increase. According to their website, a makeup application is $35 but I was charged $50. Again, she stated this was due to being in a wedding. Interestingly, I was charged the regular price for my gel manicure as is listed on the website but was not given an explanation for this. Overall, I am appalled at the unprofessionalism of Alexander's as a whole, specifically with the woman in charge of setting up the wedding party services. The bride was left feeling overwhelmed, angry and stressed hours before walking down the aisle, and there is no excuse for that. read more

I am so disappointed in the cut I received. She didn't ask if the length was good for me before styling and actually didn't cut it even close to my specifications. It was basically the cut I walked in with, just needed more of an angle. And she gave me a bob. I explained and had pics. My hair literally looked the same and no hair on the ground. Besides that, when I went home i could see it was crooked. I spent $60 + 12 tip. FOR NOTHING. I think they have a wonderful place. I have had nails, massages etc done and not disappointed. I'd give it five stars for ambiance ...friendliness and it's posh interior. But...for the job done? Way too expensive....and I walked out feeling very mediocre. I know I'm not the easiest to please so keep that in mind. But I don't have a lot of money, so when I do splurge I have pretty high expectations. I consider hair and make up people to be artists and I usually ask their opinion when getting a style done. I went in there bored with my color and cut. I have shorter curly hair that is easily straightened... I walked out with slightly boyish cut and a dark color. Now...don't get me wrong I like the color. Don't care for the cut...but neither is bold nor exciting. The color I could've achieved at home and not spent 100.00. The cut is weird. I was told my hair is at an awkward stage. So whatever. I can deal with that...but I repeatedly asked for the persons opinion and all the feedback I got was that my hair was at an awkward stage. And the only color advice was the difference between demi and permanent. I am pretty unhappy. To the point where I was visibly upset...but smiled anyway because what can you do. $100. Wasted. Find a smaller boutique where they take their time and aren't rushing to fit you in between other clients. read more

I went today for the first time ever and got a cut by Liz. She was amazing and I loved the salon. The place is very pretty and everyone was friendly and professional. When it came time to sit in the chair Liz listened to my requests, made it clear what she would do and was excited to cut my hair. She was easy to get along with and even made an adjustments to the cut per my request when we were almost done. I wear my hair in a bob and always get nervous of errors because there's not much room for error with short hair. She did amazing, and I'm excited I've found a salon that I love in the area. Super happy about my visit. I was extremely impressed with the atmosphere, service and prices. I initially wanted to remove my acrylics and do a mani, pedi. However, Yvonne took the time to speak with me about my likes and dislikes regarding the acrylics and made suggestions which I would not have considered. I hate acrylics due to the thickness, however my natural nails, though long are thin and brittle. So we drilled the acrylics down to an acceptable thickness and filled with gel. The gel filled the new growth seamlessly, allows me to keep my length and is thinner than the acrylic. Total $40 The pedi was done by Donna and was phenomenal. Donna spent a lot of time finding the perfect shade for me and was extremely helpful. I had the spa pedi. $55 This is my new spot. Massage scheduled for my husband for Saturday. read more

March 19, 2022. I have 5 daughters. Over the years they have purchased many gift certificates from Alexander's for me and for each other. My husband and son-in-laws have also purchased gift certificates for us. Today one of my daughters went to Alexander's with a $175.00 gift certificate purchased for her by her sisters. The staff at Alexander's treated her horribly. They said they could not read the bar code on the certificate that was from THEIR store and would not honor it; they did not look up the details of the purchase of the certificate, ignored my daughter, and started waiting on other customers. In every exchange with the staff it was implied that my daughter had no valid certificate and was lying. My daughter was ignored, embarrassed and humiliated by their demeaning attitude and responses. After 45 minutes of being demeaned, another of my daughters called and suddenly the staff said she could have her service while she was waiting for proof of purchase. My daughter then said she would like the money for the certificate because of how she was treated. She was informed that they will not do that. if the first staff member had looked up the information at the outset this entire situation could have been avoided. DO YOUR JOB, and TREAT PEOPLE THE WAY YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE TREATED. read more

This review is long overdue. I was visiting some college friends in Scranton when I decided to get my hair cut on a whim. I called the night before and easily got an appointment with Teresa the next morning. I was very nervous about getting my hair cut because I was looking to cut off about five inches in order to achieve the popular "lob" haircut. I have a round face, and I was worried about cutting my hair so short. Teresa immediately put me at ease. She gave me a thorough consultation, and I let her know how nervous I was. She asked me many questions about my hair, the color, and how I usually style my hair. She explained each step as she went and continuously checked in with me to make sure I was comfortable. I left Alexander's with an excellent haircut. If I lived closer, this would be my go-to salon and Teresa would be my go-to stylist. I highly recommend her! read more

Went to Alexander's for the first time today, and not having had my hair cut in 2 years, I was a little nervous. I have curly hair, and have had some terrible experiences. However, Brea knew EXACTLY what she was doing and comforted my anxiety the entire time. She was attentive, sweet, and truly understood what I wanted done. Just a slight trim with long layers and side bangs. She nailed it. Will be going back to her for sure! Inga is a fantastic hairstylist. I moved to Scranton from San Francisco, where I was spoiled by an excellent hairstylist who used organic hair color. I tried a number of salons in Scranton before finding a stylist who gave me great color and knew how to work with my curly hair. My hair was a mess when I came to Inga. A Clarks Summit curly hair "specialist" gave me the worst haircut I've ever had. My color was awful--my roots were too red, my highlights too chunky. Inga was able to highlight and lowlight my hair perfectly, fix my base and get rid of my curly pyramid of frizz without cutting off much. I'm so grateful. I give Inga 5 stars, but the salon only 4. Alexander's, while stylish and full of amenities (free wifi, lounge areas, comfortable chairs that are easy on the neck at the hair washing stations, great retail), presents a very loud atmosphere. 25 stylists are crammed elbow to elbow; overhearing numerous loud conversations between stylists and clients is annoying. Still, by far the best salon in the Scranton area. And Inga is very soft spoken. read more

My daughter and I stopped in Saturday before Mother's Day to check for a walk in appointments but wound up booking services for Monday when none were available. We had flights out on Monday so I was a bit leery of timing but the woman at the desk said they always strived to be on time so we thought we were good. I booked a Neuromuscular Massage which their brochure states works by using static pressure on specific myofascial points to relieve pain from the body. The name itself implied knowledge of trigger points and how to find and release them. And it was recommended when I told the woman at the desk what I was looking for. The spa itself is quiet and nicely appointed but the lockers, dressing areas and lounge are very small. Two parties of five were taken back at the same time and it was very tight. I was called 15 minutes late so a little stressed but we were still on target. When I told my masseuse I had booked this specific massage to help with neck /shoulder tension from an old injury, she informed me the way she does it would be a combination of Swedish, deep tissue and neuromuscular ... Really ? She proceeded to provide what I'd characterize as an light Swedish massage with lots of feathery fingers and patting over the sheets. She asked only once -early on - if the pressure was ok and I was honest and asked for firmer massage but there was no change and she never asked again. There were a few times when she seemed to stumble on a few trigger points so I thought ... Finally. But then she'd back away from them quickly and continued with the light fluff massage. In all honesty I'm not sure if she didn't know how to do the appropriate massage or just didn't care. Back in the locker the code to my locker wouldn't work (daughters bday I always use so it was easy to remember) which put me even further behind before the woman on the phone up front could assist At the desk to pay for services, I confirmed the type of massage I had booked. When I told them there was no trigger point work or even medium pressure massage she quickly shared that I should have booked a deep tissue massage ?!? Interesting since this one was recommended by their front desk 2 days earlier Since I was running very late at this point, I didn't argue. Get the charge receipt ... and there's no tip line. They say only cash? We were in the spa booking the services... Perhaps this might have been an important thing to mention (or add to the website?). I didn't have any cash. I feel compelled to write a review about my facial I had today at the Alexander's Salon & Spa located in Scranton, PA. I will start by saying that this was my 3rd Dermasweep "facial" or "procedure" that I've had with Alexander's, one other time (also in Scranton) and the other in Wilkes-Barre. This was by far the worst. The service is listed as 60 minutes and today, from start to finish, was 30 minutes. When I was taken into the room for my facial, D asked me if I was having the Dermasweep treatment only. I'm not sure why I was being asked this, but, yes, I was having the Dermasweep. There was a facial cleanse with lukewarm water, NO facial steam, NO oil, just a cleanse followed by a washcloth wipe off and then the Dermasweep machine and moisturizer. This was all of 30 minutes (which included the time she took me into the room to undress and then redress). When I was checking out, I asked the receptionist if perhaps I booked the wrong appointment, maybe an add-on treatment instead of the facial or maybe I had miscommunicated my appointment with the facialist. She responded no, that the Dermasweep is not a facial and simply a treatment. I informed her that the procedure states it is 60 minutes and that from start to finish it was about 30, maybe a few minutes less, and she stated that from start to finish, including prep, it's actually about 45 minutes. So she basically told me I was wrong, even though I was clearly only in the facial room for 30 minutes and the procedure on their website says 60 minutes. It felt rushed. Aside from the normal sweeping with the machine, this was a no frills procedure and was not very relaxing. Again, it was 30 minutes when I paid for 60 minutes. The other 2 Dermasweeps I've had previously were full, 60 minute, experiences, with stream, oil cleanse, etc. Either these people don't care about their jobs or simply chose to rush through and not provide a good client experience, which should be expected. I was then asked if I wanted to book another facial. No, I will not be back and I suggest others reading this review about "facial treatments" here in the future. I have been to this salon/spa before and both times have spent $200-300+ First I have to say my hair dresser, Christian, did a fantastic job. However, hair dresser included, this spa needs an entire education seminar on prenatal customers. I emailed the salon several weeks back to see if they had suggestions regarding pregnant clients. I never got a response but did not seem to care as I knew my Mother In Law got me a gift certificate for Christmas and I would call and figure it out. When I called the receptionist was not really sure what services would suit someone that is pregnant. Finally after all the "confusion" I was able to get a pedicure, scrub, massage, hair color and cut booked. I realize getting your hair colored when you are pregnant is kind of a eh...bad/good, either way. I got to the appointment and my spa person doing my scrub was CLUELESS. Not only was she not sure what to do with me, after consulting me in the "Relaxation" room in front of other clients about where on my body she could scrub me, then going to the massage room and further trying to figure out what to do. The scrub experience was akward and not worthy of the $45 they charged me. Next the Prenatal Massage was mediocre, at best. Not only does a spa as large and expensive as this not have prenatal massage tables but the massage therapist was not experienced or confident in her abilities. Thereby giving me a massage that was just okay with lots of pillows propped around me. The pedicure was good. It was your standard pedicure. I have had better at plain old nail salons. It could be the chairs offer no lumbar support unless it's on massage. I am not really sure. But my spa pedicure did not feel like it was worth the extra money. My hairdresser did a great job dying my hair and cutting my hair. What he failed to realize was that you cannot leave a pregnant person laying on their back for an extended amount of time to let conditioner soak in. I realize the benefits of doing so. But I was stuck with gloppy wet hair unable to sit up but unable to breath. The 2 minutes he wanted it to set, was more like 8-10 minutes (based on the number of songs I listened too). Clearly this salon is lacking in the prenatal client catering. I would highly suggest that if you are pregnant and you are looking for a pampering experience to go elsewhere. I have been to the Aveda salon at Montage or Pittston while pregnant prior to this pregnancy and was totally taken away with their level of experience/education in dealing with pregnant clients. read more

I walked in and was confused about whether or not I was still in Scranton (for the record, this quirky little place is growing on me and I am happy to be here!) Pan waxed my brows and lip and gave me a pedicure. She did a fabulous job on the waxing; I am a devoted European Wax Center customer so I have been slightly terrified of not having one here. Not anymore! After the waxing, we did my jasmine-something-pedicure...not before offering me coffee and wine. Um, hi yes please...again am I back home? Anyways, the pedicure was wonderful. I cannot wait to make my next appointment. Even the girls at the front desk were wonderful. I went in for a consultation after a very bad experience at nOW Hair Salon. Rose was very quick with me, barely waiting for sentences to leave my mouth. I asked several questions, her responses were negative, and quickly asked what kind of product do I put in my hair or "we can put a product in your hair". Each time she mentioned putting a 'product' on it she never explained what this 'product' would do. She was only interested in selling me 'a product'. I don't care for the factory atmosphere on the second floor either. I was not comfortable with her lack of concern or willingness to explore and explain some ideas on what to do with the mess I was left with.
