This visit was particularly good. I had the lasagne and Kathy had the wedge salad. Both were fantastic. So the food was great! The service was extraordinary. We were served by Kass. She is fabulous. Her sparkly personality and over the top professionalism made this a great experience. We also spoke with the manager (I wish I could remember her name) that has been with Smashed olive for only about two months. She is doing a great job and we can see the difference she makes. The decor and overall comfort of the dining and bar areas are above and beyond excellent. It was a cold day so the fireplace made it even more cozy. Try this place . . . you'll not be disappointed!!!

The short rib is $32 it was unappealing. It looks like diner food and doesn't taste like anything and for that price we certainly expected more. We had the sourdough grilled cheese at our previous visit and it was much better than recently, the bread tasted old and just like regular bread and again for $20 it was disappointing. The salmon bites were discolored in parts (could just be the cut), flavorless, and dry for $18 we had hoped for more. Drink selection is pretty good though. For these prices, you can pay the same and get MUCH better food and quality 15 minutes down the road in Hackettstown. I don't think we'd come back or encourage others to try it.

This was small family-run establishment that was only open for a few hours a day. There were about…read moreten tables inside, and they also seemed to handle a number of take-out orders while I was there. They served American comfort foods such as sandwiches and salads with a few Latin dishes too. They also had gelato and baked goods available. The service was friendly, and the food came out in a timely manner. I had the Chicken Caesar wrap ($16.95), which was a special on the day I attended. This also came with a side of pasta salad or fries, and I opted for the orzo-based pasta salad. It was very good especially the balsamic vinaigrette that dressed it. The wrap was nicely done, filled to capacity, and served warm. The homemade croutons and the slight crunch from the wrap really made it worthwhile. I also tried the flavors of fall sandwich, which was another special. It contained grilled chicken, caramelized onions, pumpkin and cranberry chutney, goat cheese, and toasted pecans on ciabatta. The ciabatta was the highlight here as well as the onions. The chutney was a tad too sweet for me. I also had the blueberry cobbler cupcake and a slice of brown sugar pecan pie cheesecake. Both were very flavorful. The crumb on the cupcake was good and I liked that the actual cupcake had blueberries rather than just the frosting. The cheesecake slice was my preferred choice. I liked the crunch from the pecans and overall, it was not too "cheesecaky", which sometimes puts me off. Will I go back? Definitely.

The exception is Grounded for Life, which offers delicious breakfast and lunch options that are thoughtfully prepared, delicious, and satisfying. Their extensive, all vegan menu offers breakfast options such as bagel sandwiches, burritos, toasts, and more, and even their coffee is surprisingly good! I have also enjoyed their wraps, bowls, and sandwiches. And they even have burgers and hot dogs, too. GfL is my new spot for takeout (order ahead online to save time!) before heading to the airport. The chunky chicken wrap saved me when my flight back to the West coast (already a long journey) was delayed by several hours and I was starving. The cafe also has a number of yummy desserts displayed in the case that are great to-go. GfL also offers a "Meal Prep" option where you can order food on a weekly or monthly basis. Service is friendly and efficient, but they are sometimes understaffed. Try to be patient and nice, and your tasty food will be out soon enough. The cafe itself is pretty small with just a few tables indoors. The outdoor patio is more expansive, and I recommend enjoying your food and drinks outside if the weather is decent.

If you are not a steak eater, there is plenty on the menu for you too. However, go for the steak! We go a few times a year and it never disappoints. Dress is casual, kind of an old looking dive bar vibe with great food. People are nice, servers know their menu and can make good suggestions if you're a first timer. Reasonably priced for everything except the steak. With the steak, you're paying for quality. Always a great meal, and almost always leftovers to take home. We've never had dessert because dinner is so filling, so no review on dessert here.

The onion rings could easily feed four for an appetizer there's that many. My NY Strip was cooked perfectly with garlic butter as an add-on. Creamy and so tasty. My husband had the ribs and said they were amazing. The staff was super friendly and pleasant all around. The only reason I didn't give it five stars was that it's unbelievably loud in there. It's really hard to have a conversation while dining there. It's got more of a bar vibe to me, so maybe that's why I found it hard to hear. But I would definitely go back but probably earlier before the crowd gets heavier.
