I showed up with an old MRI. My primary doctor said it showed substantial degeneration at L4-L5 and I need a neurosurgeon to look at this. I eventually went to see him. What I did not get from Dr. Salinas was a quick look at the films followed by, "Yes, there's the problem. When would you like to schedule surgery?" He looked deeper, found S1 nerve damage. Then, he listened. My family's experience with spine surgery began in 1961, when my mother underwent surgery to remove a spinal tumor and was left paralyzed from the waist down. I wasn't afraid of doctors, but I possessed a lifetime of respect for what can happen when someone operates near the spinal cord. Avoid at all costs was my mantra. No one informed my husband that his throat would close up on him and he would be choking the first few days after surgery. Most doctors prescribe a steroid to take for that reason alone. Dr Morgan didn't prescribe steroids for him to take nor would he give any to my husband after I frantically called his office after hours. I ended up finding someone who gave me 3 prednisone pills (my mom) to get him through the hump. I couldn't bare to see him choking and not being able to breathe. My husband to this day says those steroid pills saved his life. Morgan's work is good, but clearly he doesn't know what it feels like to not be able to breathe and feel like you are dying. For that reason alone, I would find another doctor. My husbands eyes were bulging and he was gasping for breath when we got home. Do not put your loved one through this! It's unnecessary.

Then you will be interviewed by his Physician Assistant who asks you medical questions and does a quick exam. Then Dr. Morgan comes in to discuss your medical issue. I had CD's and reports from previous spine surgeries and the corresponding reports. Dr. Morgan advised I should get a Myelogram and CT scan to diagnose my problem. I was diagnosed with a Tethered Spinal Cord which needed to be repaired. I had the surgery and he repaired the Tethered Spinal Cord as well as removing the hardware in my Lumbar 4-5 fusion. The surgery was in June 2017. Three and one-half months have gone by and I am feeling great. Dr. Morgan and his entire staff are professional and very caring. If you need a highly educated and responsible spine surgeon he is the physician you should visit for your health issues.

At my 2-week post-op appointment and every appointment afterward, I repeatedly tried to explain how intense and persistent the pain was and how concerned I felt about it. Unfortunately, I left those visits feeling unheard and dismissed. I understand recovery from spinal surgery can be difficult and unpredictable, but as a patient, I desperately needed reassurance, guidance, and to feel like my concerns truly mattered. Instead, I personally felt like I was repeatedly told to "wait it out," even as the pain continued month after month. During this process, I was referred by Dr. Kalra to multiple different specialists in an attempt to address the ongoing nerve pain. However, after being evaluated, those doctors ultimately referred me back to Dr. Kalra regarding the issues related to my fusion and recovery.
