I was stopped at a light, noticed this repair shop in a strip mall and thought "Why not, I'm sick of carrying this shoe around with me." The person at the counter told me "No problem, come back in a few hours and your shoe will be ready". His cost, $5.00 or $10.00 at the most. Later on in the day, I returned, and much to my surprise, instead of restiching, the shoe repairman, had replaced my soft baby grey suede shoe with a new strap in Black Patent Leather! And then he had the audacity to tell me the cost would now be 20 bucks because so much more work went into the repair. He did save my cut offed original strap, so hopefully I can find another shoe guy to fix his screw up. Moral of this story, read the yelp reviews before you venture into uncharted territory.
