We have been looking for a good groomer for our dog and we found Alessandro's through Yelp. We decided to give it a shot and we're so glad we did! We called to make an appointment and the girl on the phone was so lovely and easy to talk to. She asked about any health issues and we mentioned that he had a sensitive trachea. When we came in to drop him off, we filled out some additional info and were happy to see they actually wrote down his trachea problem from our phone call. They really seem to care about the dogs they groom! The interior was clean and well taken care of. This location is on Melrose, so there is lots of street parking and shopping nearby. Our doggie took 3 hours and he seems to have had a positive experience. He was anxious when we dropped him off, but was in a good mood when we came to get him. I am beyond pleased with the work and how well groomed Duke is when we visit this establishment. Very clean and professional workers as well. Duke looked the best he has ever looked on our 1st trip here and I only bring him here now. I was genuinely shocked and impressed at how good Duke looked. I've had other places do lack luster jobs on Duke for his grooming. Even knicking him with clippers or telling me they finished with him after 1 hour and he is still damp. But at Alessandro's your pet will look AMAZING when you pick them up. As you can tell from the picture Duke has a job interview lol. I brought my dog in for a nail trim about a week ago. The trim itself was good: it was quick, my dog stayed relaxed, and most nails looked well done (though a few were splintering and could've been filed). Unfortunately, the customer service needs improvement. I called ahead and was told nail trims cost $15-$20, and I also saw a $10-off promotion on Yelp. When I arrived and asked to use the discount, I was first quoted $35 ($25 with the discount). After questioning this, another employee confirmed my original information: nail trims are $15-$20. However, she added that the discount only applies to grooming, which was not clearly stated in the ad. I was ultimately charged $20 for a 5-minute trim on a small dog. The lack of transparency was off-putting. Why wasn't I charged $15 given how quick and easy the service was (5min and small dog), and why was I initially quoted a higher price once I mentioned the discount? I was also not asked any questions about my dog, and a strongly perfumed product was used without my consent. My dog's fur smelled heavily perfumed for two days. While the scent itself was pleasant, this is something owners should be asked about beforehand. Dogs have extremely sensitive noses, and I would not have chosen this for my dog. read more

Obviously getting a cat groomed is no easy task, but I am so happy with how my cat's lion cut turned out. I believe my cat was treated with patience and with a gentle touch for his bath and his grooming service. It's really hard to find GOOD cat groomers who know how to handle cats and also give a cute cut! I am so happy with the services I will 10000% be bringing my cat in as a regular customer! I have a long haired cat so the whole process took about 3.5-4 hours as expected. Plenty of street parking on melrose. Also so many cute things in the shop! We brought our 10-month-old Goldendoodle, Lucky, in with severe matting, and almost every groomer we spoke to said he would need to be completely shaved. Alessandro and his team truly listened to our concerns and worked their magic. Not only were they able to carefully demat Lucky, but they also gave him a beautiful short haircut instead of shaving him down, which meant so much to us. They spent nearly 6 hours giving Lucky the care he needed and even stayed 15-20 minutes past closing time to finish his grooming properly -- that level of dedication is rare. I have two Sphynxes which I brought in for grooming yesterday. Unfortunately today their skin is showing signs of what I expect is over-grooming with rawness on my girl's face, especially around her eyes, and scrapes with peeling skin on both. I was notified after grooming this was this location's first time with Sphynxes. They both still had tons of sebum in their ears and nail beds which is a sign of lack of knowledge of the breed too. They are very nice and did provide me with information on what they used on my cats. We will be going to the vet because this is unacceptable to do to an animal. I'm sure they are very knowledge with standard breeds of cats and dogs, but unfortunately we will not be back. I've came here a couple of times. They usually do a great job, the prices vary but last time I was here they cut my dogs ear (brown Merle) so bad I had taken her to the vet and they themselves said the scab that size would be from a good amount of skin being cut off. I came here once more assuming she may have just moved because she is very skittish and almost never cries out when she's hurt so it's not obvious. But this is the second time when the next day, a huge scab forms. It's not just one ear this time, it's both. Not only her, but my other dog (black and white) came home with cut ears too, she has a huge scab as well.. *the day she came home she whined when I touched her ear but I wasn't able to see/feel anything because of her hair covering... but now she's grown a scab too so now I know she got nipped too. Just be cautious of bringing your pets here if they have matting, they should do a good job if you continuously keep up with the brushing. Overall, I won't be coming back. read more
