I usually enjoy coming here and have visited this bakery several times, but I wanted to share a few concerns from my most recent experience, particularly regarding the food preparation area. While waiting for our food, we noticed one of the employees who was preparing food cleaning the kitchen walls. After cleaning, they did not appear to wash their hands before putting on gloves and returning to food preparation. I understand gloves are used for sanitation, but proper handwashing before putting on gloves is also an important part of safe food handling. We also noticed one of the main cooks preparing food while wearing a sleeveless shirt. From a cleanliness and food-safety standpoint, this did not seem appropriate for someone actively working in the kitchen and handling food. Lastly, before ordering, we specifically asked how long the food would take because we were in a rush. We were told approximately 5-10 minutes, which helped us decide whether we had enough time to stay and order. Unfortunately, it ended up taking longer than we were told. I completely understand that food can sometimes take longer, but a more accurate estimate would have been appreciated so we could have made that decision beforehand. I'm so glad this bakery opened near my house. I've been here multiple times now for their pan dulce and food. The inside is so inviting and makes you feel like you are walking into a home. I absolutely love it here! Their red enchiladas remind me so much of the ones my grandma used to make, and that has been extremely hard to find. You can taste that homemade flavor! I've also tried their horchata iced coffee and it is so good, super flavorful and refreshing. My mom's favorite is their café de olla and she loves that it isn't overly sweet like other spots. The bakery that used to be here before was one of my fav places for a mollete so I was so sad that they closed BUT pan dulce here is the best I've had in a while. I'm not the biggest fan of conchas but this place is so good that I even love them here. They even have mollete's which ima definitely come back for because I hand no idea till today. I attended the "Conchas" pan dulce making class with Moises and Cynthia. Moises was the teacher for the 2 hour baking class. I must say that he was hands down one of the best teachers that I have had for taking a course and that is coming from a retired school teacher of 27 years of service in public education. Moises was very professional, helpful, patient, understanding, thorough and most of all has a delightful disposition to make you feel confident enough to make Mexcian pan dulce. I liked that he answered all questions that students had and that he made it fun and encouraging for us to successfully make pan dulce to take home. I highly recommend this experience to anyone who has ever wondered how to make pan dulce. My appreciation for "panaderos" (Mexican bakers) has increased ten fold. I will also never take for granted eating pan dulce ever again, especially the "Conchas" (shell shaped Mexican sweet bread). The class was well organized, instructions were clear and repeated when necessary and it was hands down one of the top 10 experiences of my life! This form of Mexican bread making is an artisan experience that can't be missed. I can't wait to take another class. I attended with my sister in law and we had the best time ever. And yes, they have classes for children too. This would be a great way to incorporate real life math skills, measurement, fractions, and a cultural experience never to be forgotten. Each of us got to take home our pan dulce that we made and it tasted so scrumptious. read more
