Tables are not crowded, it's pretty spread out. Not very loud, but not super quiet. Service: service was a bit long/slow but I'm not sure if they are just short staffed or if it was because it was a bit busy. We weren't upset and we were patient. Food was worth the wait! I have been a frequent Alebrije (N. 5th Street Hwy, Reading 19605) customer for years. Since Covid, I opted for takeout until this Saturday. I decided to eat at the restaurant. We had a pleasant waitress. I was served unsweetened iced tea that tasted like it was spoiled. I asked the waitress about it and her statement was "We have received a lot of complaints and I made it known but they haven't done anything about it" ...so I ordered a soda and a margarita, which was OK. Please get rid of the vessels you serve the margaritas in because you need a crane to lift it and I don't want to drink from a straw. This was a margarita on the rocks not a frozen margarita. How do you get to experience beauty of a margarita with a salted rim if you're drinking from a straw? Allow me to go back to the unsweetened iced tea. The sad reality is, I just saw the review five years ago stating the same complaint about the unsweetened tea...let me tell you it's still disgusting. Why would you not make sure that this was taken care of? Please change the brew and clean out your brewing vessel. Unsweetened iced tea is a very popular drink even in a Mexican American restaurant. The food was OK, nothing to brag about. The ambience is the same, nothing to brag about. Poor choice on color scheme. Music was decent and not loud.... very appreciative. The biggest problem other than the foul tasting tea was in the ladies room, not very clean and NO toilet paper. That's right NO toilet paper. Thank goodness when I was in the bathroom stall I realized I had my cell phone with me.. I called the restaurant. A girl came in and put the huge toilet paper roll right on the dirty floor. How disgusting! Why would you think that was OK? There's a large opening under the stall that she could've handed it to me if she would acknowledged that she came in before putting it on the floor. I was so upset, but I had to do the best I could. YUCK! I feel as though the Post Covid staff in many facilities are subpar. It's as if they have lost every sense of decorum and decency. When you work at an establishment, it's not there for you to take it easy, you are to work. Shame on all five of you who were sitting there during the so-called lunch rush-hour that only had me, my friend and two other people in the entire establishment. That speaks volumes! I asked one of the five employees that was sitting out in the restaurant area if I could speak to the manager. He said very nicely "the manager isn't here today. The menu is fairly standard "mexican" fare, but I find it is well prepared. Very tasty. Far above average. I'm hooked on the fajitas and I love the free chips and salsa. This is one of three locations they have in the Reading Area. I guess that qualifies as a mini chain, yet I find the food here better and more authentic than any of the major chains. Best Mexican food I've had in the Collegeville/Pottstown/Reading area so far. I would rate the service with 4 stars. Nice waitresses but not above and beyond service. The Burrito de la Roqueta is my favorite dish! The mole has a little heat to it (def not hot) and most importantly, it isn't sweet! Love their chips and salsa. I really like this restaurant because they haven't "Americanized" the food too much. Some Mexican restaurants in our area seem to take all the spices away and add too much sweetness to the dishes. My wife loves this place, but this is my second favorite local Mexican restaurant (I prefer Plaza Azteca over in Wyomissing). Service has been prompt for us, for the most part. The entrees arrive in record time! It's remarkable. Used delivery dudes to delivery 4 meals and an appetizer of guacamole which costs $6.00 and is very good; however when the delivery came and was unpacked, found a small container with approximately 2 tablespoons of guacamole inside! I called Alebrije directly and spoke with manager "Oscar" who stated that it was not his issues but delivery dudes - excuse me!! I believe that the restaurant workers packed the order and it was in a bag when delivery dudes came to pick up, so how is it their fault?! I highly recommend this place if you like Mexican food! The food, atmosphere, and service are really good. Having lived in Mexico for a while, I feel they do a good job of offering authentic dishes with a mix of American and southwest flare that locals can enjoy. I like all their dishes and usually get guacamole as an app with the complimentary chips and salsa (you can get guacamole live which costs more but they make it in front of you or you can get the regular dip for cheaper, they taste the same). I've been here twice and it's becoming my go-to Mexican restaurant. The food is pretty good. I like it because it's between authentic Mexican and American-Mexican (like On the Border/Plaza Azteca). They have specials throughout the week and a happy hour. Last time I went they were very understaffed with only 2 servers, but a lot of empty tables. The hostess was just standing around and had us wait 10 mins before being sat. Management should probably tell her it's better to seat us and grab us a couple waters with chips/salsa because we almost left. We have been going to Alebrije since they opened way back when. Have moved to Allentown so don't get there too often anymore. Went on Wednesday night and both my wife and I were a bit underwhelmed. The Fajitas de carnitas seemed a bit flat as did my wife's burrito de la roqueta. The portion of frijoles refritos was tiny for such a cheap item. The salsa however was outstanding as was the salsa picosa made with tomatillos. We have always loved Alebrije and hope they are not letting things slide into mediocrity. We use to go here every couple months because they had the best Mexican food in the area. Today we went for the first time in about 5 months, we have been short on money so haven't been able to go there like we used to. Next we ordered the Pollo Ranchero like we always do. The taste of the sauce was way different then it had been in the past. It use to be the perfect combination of flavors. Now there is way too much salt in it. It was just an average dish instead of a superb dish now. It won't hurt to cut back on the salt in that dish. Our one daughter ordered the chicken and rice which she devoured. The atmosphere was also different. Every time we go in there we enjoy the ethnicity of the atmosphere, Spanish music use to play...today there was not Spanish music. It is obvious something has changed since we last visited I believe in August. My husband was so disappointed that he doesn't want to go back again and this was his favorite restaurant. This is our favorite Mexican restaurant in town! The decor is fun and colorful. We've tried many items on the menu and everything has been excellent. The food is authentic Mexican style and plated elegantly. I crave the homemade tortilla chips and salsa given to each table. I would go for the chips and salsa alone but there's so much more. The employees are cheerful and very attentive. We happened to be dining when our server was scheduled to take his break.
