4 stars for a very simple but very fun small town brewery. I told this story to the server and now I'll tell it to you: a few years ago, Shock Top created an amazing beer called the Pretzel Wheat. It tasted just like pretzels and was something I bought all the time. Anheuser-Busch then purchased Shock Top and discontinued my beer. Ever since then, I have been looking for a pretzel beer replacement, but the only places that ever sold it were far away breweries, so I thought my pretzel beer drinking days were over. Fortunately, a friend of ours told us about some Pennsylvania breweries to check out that were only a couple hours away. One of those breweries was Aldus Brewing up in Hanover (not too far from Gettysburg). I happened to check out the venue's website and saw that it sold...pretzel wheat beer! After a few months of going back and forth about the distance (a little less than 2 hours from DC), my wife and I finally jumped in the car one lazy Saturday and drove up. The brewery is located pretty close to a cemetery in a rather residential area. We parked on the street and saw lots of outside tables and only a few people. My wife and dog grabbed a table as I headed up some stairs and inside to check the place out. The brewery has a very clean and new look (I think it was maybe a year old at the time of this writing) with a bar off to the right and more seating farther inside. The bartender asked if I needed help, I told her we were sitting outside, and she said someone would be right out. A server came outside to help us a few minutes later. She was generally pretty pleasant and was able to tell us a good bit about some of the beers the venue offered. We decided to start with a soft pretzel and cheese to go with our beers that was absolutely delicious. We then decided to go with "flights" which wasn't as formal as other breweries in that you say which beers you want and they bring you small plastic cups of the beer. That totally worked for us and gave us the chance to try a bunch of beers for what felt like next to nothing in terms of price. The beers we tried included the Driving Me Nuts (hazelnut beer that was like other chocolate beers), My Cherries Amour (fun cherry beer), Berry Your Blues (an excellent blueberry beer), Sunset Daydream and Old Favorite Lager (standard easy drinking beers), and of course, the Pretzel Wheat. The Pretzel Wheat (which I only figured out once we were there was due to Hanover being essentially Pretzel Town USA) was absolutely delicious and exactly what I was looking for. In fact (and this is how the brewery will know who wrote this), I decided to buy 3 cases of the Pretzel Wheat that day. As each case holds 24 beers for something like $35 or $40, I think I ordered enough beer to last me until our next mecca up to the great Pennslyvania north in 2021. Overall, Aldus Brewing provided us with a nice brewery experience and a chance to get ahold of some pretzel beer. While a 2 hour drive might not be for everyone, I would definitely recommend checking this spot out if you are in the area. read more

My Wife and i had tried some of the Aldus beers before and fell in love with them. We decided to take a trip to the brewery all the way from Philadelphia and i cannot say enough how much it was worth the trip! The beer selection was incredible, we came for the Pretzel Wheat beer but got to try so many others! The staff was so knowledgeable and really made the experience so much fun. However the star of the experience was the owner Jason! When we told him that we traveled to the brewery he gave us the full Aldus treatment! He told us interesting facts about the beers and the Aldus brand, gave some history behind the beers, and you could tell he is very passionate about his beers! We had an incredible time, and we are super excited for Aldus to open its new Brew pub location! 5 stars all around! read more

An excellent brewery in Hanover. The three beers I had were extremely drinkable and were on happy hour pricing. Drive from Gettysburg to enjoy better beer offerings in Hanover! Update - I wanted to talk a bit about the beers, didn't have a chance to do so before. I started with an American Blonde. Not too sweet as others can be. Excellent after a hot day outside. My second beer was the Relief Peacher...a real hit. Not overly sweet, just a hint of peach flavor that smooths the taste. My last beer was the Pale Ale...excellent, one of the best I have tasted anywhere. Slightly bitter front note that eases into a super smooth and flavorful finish. read more

I like Aldus. They have the best beer in Hanover. It's consistent, full of flavor and it's a real brewery. The other local outlets (Something Wicked, Miscreations and Warehouse) are weak on their beer menus and inconsistent. Sporadic availability, occasionally flat, low taste, hot mess type stuff. These places seem to run the whole gamut from some decent beers to some which seemed akin to amateur home brew stuff concocted in a college dorm. Not Aldus. They seem to be committed to professional brewing and presentation. Your getting real beer, not "I wonder what it will taste like this time" type stuff. It's a small place, but cozy and you're not besieged by too much sensory crap like 8' wide TV's and Keno boards. There's actually conversations here. Bartenders are nice and efficient, the beers are flavorful, consistent and the brewmaster must know their stuff. They've obviously invested a lot of money into the brewery side (look through the glass) and they don't seem to be trying to grow their business too fast, which is wise. Plus it keeps the cost of the beer that much lower. Their food selection is not great, but what they have is good. Their hours can be a little limited, too. Come for the beer; it's good! read more

We stopped at Aldus while road tripping through the area specifically to try their ImpropDoppBack Lager and weren't disappointed! Great little brewery with fun people at the bar. We met several other beer enthusiasts who also happened to be passing through which made our visit that much more fun. While there we also discovered that Hanover is the snack capital of the US. If you're like us and love to take the long way while traveling, Aldus is a great stop along the way. read more

I love this place. The beer is very solid for a new brewery, especially the wee heavy. It changes regularly but most of the time you can go in and they will be tapping one of their beers through a randle with a variety of ingredients. I've only ever ordered the hummus here and it is good. I can't speak to the other food choices, i.e. -the pizza. The hours have changed and I believe they are now open later than 8pm. I love the Wee heavy so much that when my wife and I bought a kegerator, we christened it with a slim of this beer. Outstanding. One note, there are a couple of other breweries in the Hanover area. Aldus, by far, offers the best beer in my opinion. read more

Hanover is starting to get a nice little craft brew scene going and Aldus is one of the places driving this renaissance. It's a little off the beaten path and is primarily there to be a bar/place to get growlers filled. Decor-wise, the layout is a L shaped bar with an awesome oxidized copper top and backroom with a few tables. It is a warehouse type feel because it is pretty much an expanded tasting room off the actual brewing operations. They do feature some barbeque for sale and pretzels to snack on for free at the bar but the beer is the star of the show here. Jason (owner) and Jeff (brewmaster) have a nice selection of beers and seem to always throw out something new on a weekly basis. Consistently on tap are their Blonde Ale and IPA each in 2 different ABV levels. Recently they have had a Wee Heavy Scotch Ale and Belgian Dubbel IPA. if you're lucky enough to stop in at the right time, they may be running an infuser. If you see the Wee Heavy infused with coffee, take advantage and get a pint and maybe even a growler. I'm partial to the IPA at 7% and the Wee Heavy, but there has not been anything I've tried there that has been bad. Last time I was there Jeff was nice enough to take whomever wanted on a tour of the brewing operations, which was a nice treat to see where the magic happens. All the staff there is super friendly and very enthusiastic about the product. Only downfall, and this is more attributed to stupid PA laws, is that they are only open until 8pm. Can't wait to see what Aldus has in store for the beer lover next and have no doubt they will be successful on the strength of their product. read more

At first glance one might think it was just a factory at least that's what happen Friday night. Inside it's very spacious and the staff were friendly. The bar was packed so we ended up standing but I was told they had a few tables in the back. I got the tasting flight, 4 mini glasses of craft brews for $7 and change. I enjoyed two out of the four. The food was okay. I'm sure it would've been amazing BBQ if it were made fresh right there but it's made in another location and just reheated when you order. It's in a residential area so they close early, at 8:00. But they have plenty of parking. read more

We went to Aldus for the first time and my bf was blown away by their beer. He ended up getting 2-flights of 4-beers apiece (obviously, I was driving!) and he enjoyed every one. His favorites were the Arrow Matic Amber IPA, the Hoppy Pale Ale and the White Bronco Imperial Orange Ale and the Porter (can't remember the name). He said the taste and quality of the beer was excellent and he was really impressed. For the most part, the beer was too hoppy for my tastes, but that's common, so I don't let it get in the way of a good review from my bf read more

Tried a flight of 5 beers. All were delicious. Service was good too. Will definitely return.

So I almost completely missed this place the first time I went, because it looks like it's just another factory/warehouse. Luckily, the parking lot was pretty full and that let me know that I was pretty close. It's spacious place on the inside with plenty of seating at both the bar and some tables. I tried a tasting flight which was a small glass of each of the four beers that had on tap that night. It was $7.50, which is a bit pricey but the best way to try them all. I liked three of the four beers, although one was a bit light for my taste. The fourth beer was just way too dark. I think it was a double IPA, and just not up my alley. Aldus has some food from Boneyard BBQ, but it's reheated when ordered and that makes it pretty bland compared to how awesome it is when it's fresh. Another downside is the fact they have to close at 8:00pm every night because they're in a residential area. Otherwise, it's not a bad little place and I'll be going back for sure. read more
