This is right off the highway in Thurmont Maryland on the way from Virgina to Pennsylvania. My friend loves to stop here when we make our little trek to meet up with her cousins for lunch in Pennsylvania. I laugh because it's not like we don't have liquor stores in Virginia lol but I guess it's the uniqueness of it all and maybe the fact that it's a one stop shop with wine beer and liquor - in VA liquor stores are called ABC stores (Alcohol Beverage Control) & only sell liquor. She is always looking for the same thing; some kind of gingerbread liquor that she can't remember the name of lol and they don't ever have it so she ends up buying her usual stuff which is liquor. Again, she could get it in Virginia with no price difference but I guess it's just the fun of road-tripping. For a roadside store they do have a nice little selection, and some unique items as well and the staff is always super friendly & helpful, so why not stop & support a local small biz! I decided to stop by on my way up to Eaglesmere and was super glad I did. The selection of whiskeys was pretty legit. I mean, it's not super extensive, but it's definitely more than I expected stopping by a roadside liquor store in Thurmont. What made my experience 5 stars was the service. A woman who saw me looking at the whiskeys asked if I needed any help. Then she took it to the next level and told me about a few whiskeys that had just come in *Rubs hands together in anticipation*. I ended up leaving spending a bit more than I was planning to spend, but it wasn't because the prices were not fair, It was because I got a bit too excited and bought two bottles of whiskey instead of one. Whoops! ;) When I was looking at some of the whiskeys that had come in, the gentleman who was there even chimed in to let me know his opinion on the whiskeys that had just come in. In my mind, the more opinions the better. I'm fairly inexperienced when it comes to whiskey, and am learning a good deal right now, so I love to hear what other people think. If only there was a Yelp for whiskeys ;). I ended up with a 1. Suntory Toki Whiskey 2. Four Roses small batch whiskey Both turned out to be very good. And both have very different feels to them. The Suntory Toki is a very light and refreshing whiskey (more of a day whiskey in my view), while the Four Roses is a more complex (later in the day) whiskey... unless you're having a really rough day... or live in the 60's. This a clean, nice, little shop with excellent customer service. Definitely wouldn't hesitate to stop by again if I was drivin' through. read more

Gateway Liquors provided the alcohol for our wedding. Rachel and the team were great to work with. Rachel was very responsive and helped us figure out the right amount to buy for our guest count. It is also nice to have the option to sell back any unopened alcohol. The bartenders had all of the supplies for signature drinks, etc. Gateway delivered the alcohol on time and picked it up at the end of the night. I used Gateway Liquors for my stateside wedding reception and couldn't have been happier. From our first meeting with Nick to my final phone call for my return amount (yes you read that correct), everything was smooth sailing. Nick determined the amount of alcohol and mixer we would need for our party size and gateway delivered everything the day of the event. They worked with the caterers to ensure everything was in total and there were no hiccups. Following the event, they returned and picked up the remaining alcohol and mixers (unopened only) and I received a credit for that amount about a month later. John (the owner) and all the rest of the guys at Gateway Liquors have always been very helpful and courteous. I went in two weeks ago to buy a case of wine, but was told that they only had 3 bottles of what I wanted. They gave it to me at the case price ($1.50 discount per bottle) and ordered what I wanted so that I could pick it up the following week. I'm a very happy customer! read more

This is a very nice store. Clean and well stocked. Nice collection of some bourbons which is what i was shopping for and fair prices. Those most interested in any Pappy Van Winkles, they had a bottle on the shelf of the 12 year at a price much less than i have seen in other markets.
