The places were loud and the music was not cohesive to the ambiance. We luckily found the Harrison Speakeasy and we had such a wonderful time. It's open late and really gives the speakeasy vibes that so many "speakeasies" are lacking these days. The music was great. The DJ was very impressive and played a nice array of music. Seamlessly mixing old and new salsa and more. The drinks - we finally had some good drinks here! I was so happy after the previous bars we had been to. The only downside here was that we got there and were having such a good time, then it closed and we were left wanting more. It was such a nice time and I really appreciated the opportunity to visit during our trip!

It was a bit funny seeing another country's interpretation of "American culture" but I think Harrison nailed it - from the New York newspaper menus to the classy interior to the expertly made cocktails. I could not decide on the cocktail menu, so the bartender asked me what my preferences were. She whipped up a mint banana drink and it was SO AMAZINGLY GOOD. Like one of the best cocktails of my life. AND it was only $6!! (Granted, all the cocktails in Buenos Aires are $6 USD) During my visit to Buenos Aires I also tried two of the "world's top 50" bars: Tres Monos and Floreria Atlantico. Honestly, I think Harrison has them both beat in terms of ambiance and beverage. Wonderful experience and I will definitely come back the next time I'm in town.

It is not a fancy place, but it is well maintained and is popular among locals. They have 11 pool tables to enjoy. I did not play any billiards, but I tried a bunch of food here. I went the traditional route and chose some Argentinean classics: locro, fugazzetta, and empanadas. Everything was filling and high quality with very reasonable prices. If you're looking for a solid local spot, this one delivers. Unlike Cafe Tortoni, this place is not touristy. And the space is huge as well and is perfect for a large group.

There are a lot of historical buildings that date back to the 1800's. I would have liked to have posted a picture of the homemade gnocchis we ate but unfortunately we came hungry and with everything that was going on I forgot. The billiards hall downstairs holds professional championships. I took no pictures at the hall since there were some serious games going on. The food and the service were very good. And the waitress greeted us with a kiss on the cheeks, very common here. In the states we shake hands, here you get a peck on the cheek. Only downside and it had absolutely nothing to do with the restaurant, was a manifestation of protests which aside from being peaceful was sort of a pain for those who needed to move around the main parts of the city. Me I happened to find it interesting.

If you don't see anyone, try ringing the doorbell to the right. We stopped by on a Friday night without a reservation and the place was fully booked, but the restaurant was able to rustle up a couple extra stools and seat us at the back bar. We were then invited to sit at the main bar when enough places opened up. The staff really went the extra mile to make us feel welcome. When they noticed us puzzling over the Spanish menus, they quickly rounded up some English translations. The cocktail menu, though, is in Spanish only, and Google translate wasn't much help. Noticing our distress, the bartender, who spoke excellent English, explained that the menu titles were Argentine slang words and happily explained the sense of the groupings. He then helped us pick some great unique cocktails based on what we told him we liked. All of the food was great. My favorite was the roasted tomato side, which also included broccoli and some kind of crunch topping. I wish all veggies tasted this good! The lamb empanadas offered a gourmet twist on a classic Argentine staple. The melted Camembert with grapefruit and tomatoes, while not my favorite, was refreshingly different. A word of warning: the "platitos", meaning little plates, aren't like the little tapas back home. Be careful not to over-order. I'd start with one platito and one side and go from there. Sit at the bar if you want to meet some of the locals!

Even hostess went out of her way from arrival to departure she was so nice. The place is not cheap but very well worth it. Good value for the night. If I get picky I think DJs could play songs w actual lyrics current or older popular bands not just elektronica. Restrooms clean as they can be. There is a semi open terrace 3rd floor that is nice too. But we spent the night on main bar second floor. Also great semi open kitchen to watch plates go out. I definitely would be back. Good value!

Dimly lit, dark wood bar, showing its wear, albeit only about a decade old - of course it could well have been another pub before. Perfect place to think of as a dive bar. But then you start to look at what's on offer - this is a Scotch bar for people who know their Scotch. Rumor has it that they have somewhere around 200 different labels! Unfortunately for me, I'm not a Scotch drinker, and the only beer available was Warsteiner on tap or Miller in bottle. I ordered a gin & tonic from one of the three or four gins available. Five different burgers on offer - really just different toppings available, as they're all the same burger - no fancy lamb or veggie or anything of that sort. I ordered the "Uno" sans sweet barbecue sauce. I'm not a bbq fan when it comes to burgers. Simple patty, good sized, perfectly seasoned, cooked to somewhere very slightly past medium rare. A slice of cheese, lettuce and tomato (smartly, the lettuce placed on the bottom, so it protects that bottom bun), a couple of sliced cornichons, a couple of slices of bacon, and some red onion. Steak fries, a little soft for my taste, but delicious. Herbed mayo to dip them in. The usual array of condiments in packets on the side. Done and done. Is it a great burger? No. But it's a very good burger and one I'd happily eat again at 135 pesos. And for you Scotch drinkers? This is the place.
