To my amazement, this is the second time in a row I've been to a Aldi and there was little wait to check out! Prices are great on most produce and diary products. You can actually find some name brands that other grocery stores carry.

This Aldi location just got remodeled and it is super nice inside! It's so organized and clean. I always luck out with their fresh finds, this time I got GTs kombuchas for $2 each! Like 50% off, so great. They have a whole area for boxes that you can use to shop with if you forget your bags (at Aldi it's a good map to bring your own bags. You can purchase some there, but they don't offer any for free). The cashiers at this location were super speedy and got me out of there quick.

Virginia when the winter gets colder to maintain their stock and tomatoes are brought in from Georgia and Florida. I am a firm believer that good food is all about good ingredients and I am constantly underwhelmed by the selection and quality of the produce at my nearby Giant Eagle on whittier street and trendy Kroger's in the Brewery District. This week at Evelyns I got some of the biggest and hardy sweet potatoes for just .79 a pound and equally delicious tomatoes for 1.99 a pound. I also had my eye on the abundant and fresh supply of sweet onions, zuchinni, cabbage, and squash. Again the quality is superior to local grocers and prices are competitive. If you are not familiar with this part of town it can be tricky to find, south on parsons avenue just beyond the old schottensteins. The address is Marion rd but it is not marked, You will see E. Barthman on the west side, and Evelyn's is on the opposite side. Hours are Mon-Saturday 9:00-5:30 from Dec-March and 9:00-5:30 Mon-Sun April-November. I often call ahead to see what they have each week. I am never disappointed!

Most of their produce is signficantly cheaper than what you could get at Kroger or Giant Eagle, and more inpressive in quality. The staff is very nice and eager to help you. As we walked up the stairs, we exchanged greetings with another shopper (a white female). When we reached the top of the stairs, we turned left towards the bar/liquor store. A white woman who worked there was sitting at the bar reading a newspaper. She looked up over her glasses and, in a very abrupt and accusatory tone, said, "CAN I HELP YOU?" My husband instantly turned around and walked away in disappointment. I responded, "Hello, we're just looking," and followed him. While in the adjacent wine section, I told my husband, "She was kind of rude." He replied, "That's exactly why I walked away. We'll get some wine and pay downstairs." Now, stay with me for a moment. The area was well-lit, and there was a glass divider separating the two rooms. While I was considering my options for a red blend near the back wall my husband looked at the white wines. In a more welcoming tone, the same woman who had been sitting at the bar addressed another shopper (a white male) in a very welcoming and charismatic voice, saying, "Hi, how are you? What can I help you with?" as she walked over to him with a smile. I instantly recognized the difference in her demeanor. Even my husband noted, "She didn't talk to us like that." We then proceeded downstairs to the customer service desk. My husband felt I shouldn't share my concerns because this behavior happens daily, and he believed nothing would change. However, I decided to speak with the manager, Sabrina, who kindly listened to my experience. Sabrina responded by saying "Well, I've never had anyone else complain about her as an associate and repeated it to me twice before saying, but I'll look at it." That was not the response I was hoping for; an apology would have been welcomed. However, I honestly do not know what I expected. I do not want the associate to lose her job or anything crazy, but her attitude toward us was crazy and offensive. Should she be educated? Yes, absolutely. Had the roles been reversed, I would have likely been fired, handcuffed by an all-white group of Bexley Police officers, and charged with assault and misconduct of some magnitude. Or I could have reacted in the same way as the associate, inappropriate, disrespectful, and racist, and I still would have been arrested in the same manner mentioned above. I'm so sick and tired of the racism and hostility. My husband and I are educated, working-class humans who respect others and deserve to be treated equally, just like every other customer, no matter what we look like or how we identify. We may be only two of many shoppers, but I will not be returning to the store at all. I am disappointed. Hatred, blatant racism, and unconscious bias that equates to racism are all wrong.

First off, Annapurna's product selection is pretty dang stocked compared to other small independently owned south Asian markets I've visited in Columbus. I stopped in to see if they carried a certain coconut Candy I've recently been introduced to, but they didn't have the exact brand I was looking for. I'll start with the establishment/location. This joint is in the heart of the Whitehall/Columbus area. Yes, many years ago, Hamilton Road was chuck full of businesses, restaurants and shopping stripes. However, over the last 20 years, things have changed: businesses closing; higher crime; demographics. Since I'm all for the hidden gems, when a friend told me about this place, I was excited! First time I walked into this grocery store, I got confused. I didn't see any tables - was I in the wrong place? I had to ring up my friend and have him direct me toward the back left corner of the shop. The eatery part is not big. A few tables. Three or so booths. And a small stand with the register. That's it, nothing to gawk at. The service had always been good. Polite and fast. Both times my friend and I have gotten a pork burrito and #48 (starts with an M, but I forget what it's called!). The burrito has consistently been fantastic. Moist juicy pork. Great mix of toppings. You can taste the different components, too. That's a big deal-breaker for me: so many Mexican places serve burritos that have a homogenous taste. Nothing standing out. Not the case here! Here goes my best attempt to describe #48: it consists of thin strips of steak and chicken and freshly cooked small shrimp. Red and green peppers are mixed in with the protein. Mozzarella cheese is sprinkled on top. The cool part? These ingredients are tossed in a black bowl and pushed into the oven. Everything cooks in the bowl. The outcome is all flavor, every bite! The meat is lightly seasoned - the perfect amount. Oh yeah, almost forgot! When you're seated, a giant basket of chips and three types of salsa are brought out: the normal red salsa; a green Tomatillo dip; and orange tinted hot salsa to top it off. Authentic Mexican, folks :D
