As with other Aldi's, you can go through a whole visit not interacting with a single employee, even at check out. The closest I had to employee interaction was a roomba-like vacuum beeping at me to get out of its way. (Not very customer-centered technology, huh?) The lack of employee interaction doesn't bother me too much, but it'd be nice for employees to say hello or ask if you need help when they inevitably pass by you in the store. Maybe that's too Midwestern a mindset? Anyway, one thing at local Aldi's that really stresses me out are the phones! I worked at a call center with the exact same ring, so every time I hear the phones, it really freaks me out. This isn't their fault obviously, BUT I shouldn't be able to hear clear ringing from across the store. No exaggeration, you could be anywhere in the store and hear this ringing clearly. I think there are enough employees at the front that there's no need to have the phones THAT loud. Recommendations: their prosciutto and goat cheese. This location sadly didn't have any of the honey goat cheese, but the garlic and herb is our favorite. These are great quality, reasonable prices, and an Aldi's staple.

For me, Aldi is not a place for regular shopping trips, though you could get by. I use it more for snacks, quick stops, and quirky things like their dips and flavored whipped cream. Most of the shelves needed re-stocking and every single line was a minimum of 10 people deep, even the self-check out area. I waited 45 minutes to be checked out. The cashier had trouble hearing her scanner so scanned several of my items multiple times (coffee was scanned 4 times!). Good thing I was paying attention and was able to have it corrected. Sadly, the staffing and stocking issue isn't isolated to this location. I've seen it in Powell too and have since moved my business to Giant Eagle.

I'd heard about all of the fancy expensive things they sold, but it seemed to me like it was just the same things you could get elsewhere but more expensive. I'm all about the discount stores, and I enjoy browsing the ridiculous things in expensive places...but this was neither of those things. The slightly Soviet ambience of all the grey walls and ceilings did not help. It worked great as a place to pick up my package, but I don't think I'd go back for actual shopping.

The deli and meat department are also top-notch. And there is an enormous bulk nuts and candy section where you can measure out your favorite selections and bag them. Fresh Thyme is really a unique shopping experience for groceries and even though I live close to the center of Columbus, it is well worth making the drive to come here for the quality & variety of healthy food that is available!

The prices are equivalent to (and mostly cheaper than) Krogers or GE; it's like Trader Joe's, but Local (and lots closer). Their produce is lovely & fresh (oh, those big bags of crimini mushrooms...), their staff is helpful & friendly, and they offer a lot of local & regional options to national/pricey brands. We've been shopping there for a few months now. If they only had pharmacy, they'd be perfect, but you can't have everything.
