This location hasn't had a review in a while so I figured it was time to write a little update. First things first, the location has renovated and has definitely gotten a makeover compared to the cover photo above (pictures to come later). For some background: Aldi is a German-based supermarket chain. Their MO is no fuss, no frills so that it saves money for the customer and time for the employee. Two primary examples of this - customers put a quarter in to get a shopping cart so that they're motivated to return it back to the corral; no time wasted by employees to retrieve errant carts. No baggers and one employee checks out your items in rapid speed in order to get to the customer after you. (There is a bagging counter beyond the registers so that you can bag your items at your own leisure.) Again, keep that 'no fuss, no frills' image in mind and don't be personally offended if there isn't a lot of small talk. Bags are sold separately so be prepared with reusable bags or boxes from home. Also, Woodman's or Festival Foods this is not. The selection, while it's grown in the last few years, is still not a huge grocery store. You've got your produce, snacks (both generic and brand name), basic grocery and household items, some liquor, and frozen foods. They've got a shelf full of gluten-free items and a rotating aisle of specialty foods (think seasonal snacks, candy, and/or crackers, some random cereals on sale, etc.) You can check out an idea of what's being offered at aldi.us. However, basics make up a majority of this store and they're usually what the consumer needs, and this is why I give Aldi a high rating. Because of the aforementioned 'no fuss,' prices are LOW. If you need some basic pantry staples and produce, this is your place. For first timers I'd recommend going on a day that you don't necessarily need to grocery shop to familiarize yourself with what's there. You may be pleasantly surprised with the vast deli selection or the offerings in the seasonal aisle (my husband is vegan and is particularly delighted with their meatless options in the frozen section). Build your list and then come back for those low low prices in this nicely renovated location. I will say, this spot is a hot little spot nowadays. I've usually only had time to go on later weekends or weekdays after work. At this location especially, I've experienced produce down to the last dregs in the box, packed aisles, and the weekly specials aisle is usually cleared out the first day that they're laid out (tip: check out https://www.aldi.us/en/weekly-specials/this-weeks-aldi-finds/ to see if there are any seasonal items that you're interested in). This is the only reason I docked that star. From a 9-to-5er to others, I'd advise going early in the mornings on Saturdays for the best ratio of low crowds to amount of items available. If that's not possible, weekday evenings are still chill and I've been appreciative of the friendly demeanor of people that are also there around that time. Of all of the Aldi locations around and near Madison, the Watts Road location is terrible. I if the rest of them were as bad as this one I wouldn't set foot in an Aldi . Their freezer section in the standalone freezer there were several items that were unmarked. The price wasn't on either side of the freezer. I have been to this location several times and it is always as disorganized and dirty each time. I didn't have any bags with me and I needed to purchase one. however the registers that I could immediately see, none of them had any bags to purchase. As I was packing my items into boxes, I saw one self check out had a few bags for purchase. I would say I visit this particular location maybe once a month and this was the third time I have noticed that there was no or few bags for purchase. Usually, I go to Aldi in Sun, Prairie, Fitchburg, or East Madison, because they are better stocked and better organized than this particular location. This one is by far the closest one to my home, but I will go out of my way to avoid this particular store when possible. read more

My wife & I have been Aldi's customers and cheer-leaders for many years. Our Aldi's of choice & convenience has always been Sun Praire, 750 whatever St, It has always been an immaculate, prize facility. Two months ago, we began to see significant negative changes. It has gone from a clean, well stocked, beautiful store to a pit! Today, I asked inquired about what's happening. Manager change said a frustrated worker. Can I speak to the manager, I queried. Never in my life have I been more compelled to steal a shopping cart. Last time I shopped at an Aldi store I was so put off by the quality of the meat I purchased I vowed to never visit that store/chain again. I've been a Trader Joe's shopper whenever I have found one in my shopping trips for many years. The nearest however is well out of my route, so it's been a year since I've visited. This evening Aldi came to mind, having learned it's a TJ related thing, and so I have reconsidered in my mind the option of exploring them again. Tonight is such a time. It's along my path and so I figured I'd do it. The shopping carts are chained like a work gang from Cool Hand Luke. WTF? I don't get it. I decide I'm only needing an item or two I'll rough it. But when I get inside I decide I might at least inquire about this issue of carts being tethered like prize slaves. .25 cents. Deposit a quarter. Ok, so I'm to believe that I'm laying a two- bit security deposit to discourage the idea of theft. Ok. Wander into the store, with my cash secured cart I'm ready to shop and perish any considerations of stealing the cart for fear of never recouping my George Washington adorned coin. Heavens no! The meat looks fine and the bag of onions I gathered to justify the trusting that if I'm honest, I'll be reunited with my quarter. The appalling scarcity of variety decides for me that this is to be a ONE OFF. I'll skip this place, the meat appears as stated to be good, onions too, but to be treated even worse, actually accepting the guilty until not, which is how I feel at Walmart, is plenty enough insult to state this place is perhaps really a nazi endeavor as my friend Chuck once swore to be true back in 2000 when I first asked about this Aldi outfit the year I first came to the Midwest. read more

Aldi is Aldi, and this one is no different. Compared to some other locations this one tends to be a little bit more chaotic/messy (especially on afternoons/evenings) but the selection is usually good. I am usually left to my own devices while shopping here but the staff answer questions when asked. read more

Aldi is Aldi. Cheap groceries, lots of no-name products, quarter-chained shopping carts, and minimal staff interaction. This location feels smaller and older than some of the other locations in town. Like with any location, selections are limited to one of each kind of thing and the items rotate in and out. I wasn't able to locate many of my favorite Aldi finds here (miss you, frozen sticky rice!), which is a bummer. If you need the basic basics, you'll be good in this location, but head to a larger location like Sun Prairie or Fitchburg for a wider selection. read more

ALDI is just unbeat in prices. I also enjoy their variety of gluten free options and their tear-away brioche is to-die-for.

No more excuses that eating healthy is too expensive because Aldi will prove you wrong. I LOVE Aldi so much... I wish they were open later than 8 PM and earlier than 9 AM. But alas, we must take the good with the bad. This location is smallish (though I've not been to any locations in the area to compare) but has everything you need at the right price! My boyfriend and I do our primary shopping here and they have all the necessities and then some. We even get some of our "splurge" items here when we want to treat ourselves without breaking the bank (i.e.: lobster tails, crab legs, steak, prosciutto, buffalo mozzarella.... all that fancy stuff when it's available!). They also sell wine and beer. The Winking Owl brand is pretty decent wine considering it's under $3 a bottle. Just remember to bring a quarter with you if you need a cart (don't worry, you'll get it back at the end of your trip!) and your reusable bags (they charge for bags). Of course, if you forget bags there are plenty of empty free boxes you are allowed to take from throughout the store to use. The staff is always very friendly and knowledgeable. I love Aldi's and their products however this store on Watts Rd in Middleton Wisconsin, has failed on my "Online order, for a curbside pick up" multiple times! Several other Locations have done a fantastic job, through Instacart. I placed my order online three days before and they could not fill it at all. They have many signs to order online outside the store. Don't advertise what you can't do! The email or text message exchanges were worthless. Auto AI replies to pretend someone is there who cares. Also, Adi's does not have direct store phone #'s, to cut costs. I get that. But after I received the Instacart email that "My order will not be ready at the original time we told you... we will have it ready today, from Ashish" when I went to this store to ask if they were going to fulfill my order that was place. There was no "Ashish". But the lady said, I will try to do it in an hour or two. Well, I gave them the time and they still did not get to it. Bad management (I talked with three of them about this issue) and bad Instacart shopper! I was nice about it, so it's not like they failed on purpose. This is only for the Watts Rd in Middleton Wisconsin location. Never again will I waste my time with them! I will be driving to SunPraire or Baraboo! read more

I SO wish there was an Aldi store where I live. Prices are amazingly low. Their business model is all about cost savings, from the deposit required for the shopping cart to the bag your own purchases. It's a case of what you see is what you get. I like what I see! read more

What does Aldi mean to me? It means to buy some stuff in a big bulk and CHEAP. Unlike in the Netherlands in which Aldi can be found almost in every block, Madison only has two Aldis, at least to my knowledge. That is the only regret about Aldi here. I have to make a trip either to the west or east side, nothing's at the downtown. Too bad they don't have it near to my apartment, it can save the students' pocket if they do! :) I guess the system here and in the NL is pretty much similar: they don't provide plastic bags, unless you want to pay for it. It's actually for an environmental reason, which I support. That said, make sure you bring your own plastic bags when shopping here. You won't find the selection of the stuff in a very order manner, but you can find mostly anything you need for your grocery shopping: veggies, oils,eggs, breads, fruits (oh their fruits are cheap and quite a variety, come early so you can get some fresh mangoes! woohhoo) soaps, shampoo, among many other things. So, yeah, I'll recommend Aldi for some cheap yet quality products! read more

I grew up wondering what this place was.... Then I moved to Middleton and visited, I like this place. It's reasonable and they have some decent stuff. I don't buy everything here... I do buy my turkey bacon as it is the best turkey bacon I can find, ANYWHERE. They have some name brand products sometimes. Make sure you bring your own bags. read more

I've been an Aldi shopper for quite a few years, especially when I discovered by doing a price comparison of staples like corn oil, milk, basic cheeses, crackers, etc. that Aldi was 40-50% less than the local larger chains. A good example being Mayonnaise by the quart for $2.00 less than even at Walmart. And face it, mayo is mayo and Triscuits are Triscuits. You can now find lots of organic items: milk, cheeses, eggs, vegetables. I've never been a particular fan of the produce, but you can find some quality items. The chilled section, for instance has containers of mixed greens, baby spinach and kale, and often as low as $1.49. The other unique items are the German products. Aldi is a German company, and many of their specialty items are identical to their sister (or really "brother") company, Trader Joe's. I get my uncured bacon here, along with some other meats, and frozen seafood. It's a major DIY place with bags for purchase, and your own bagging. I'd recommend bringing a sack. I find the staff here to be very friendly and efficient. Aldi generally treats and pays it people very well, so there usually little turnover. Might as well shop with happy people and get good deals. read more
