Some cheaper groceries, but not everything is cheap - the chicken actually cheaper at Shoprite near me. They have some deals and run out quickly - inventory on shelf is stocked once maybe twice a day and then if it runs out, that's it until the next shipment, according to a manager. Lot of non-major brands here to keep the costs somewhat lower, but compare versus the local Wegmans or Shoprite generics shows it's not that cheap for many items. One staffer working the cashiers, so a bit of line getting out.

One checkout open and 15 ppl on line. I don't give a shit if the food's free, I'm leaving.

I think the most people shop here because of the prices which is great. The reason why I don't shop there is because of the lines. It' always a process to check out. I've never been there when there haven't been at least six or eight people online and only one register open. That translates to 20 minutes or more of my life that I won't be getting back. Saving money is great, but saving time is even better. I'd much rather spend a bit more money and go somewhere where paying is less tedious.

    Sweets and things.

Aldi's is Aldi's. I must say that this store didn't have much that I came for as compared to other Aldi's that I visited early when they opened. Staff was nice and cashier was great. My only concern was that there were not enough checkout clerks and therefore there was no social distancing on the long line. This needs to be tightened up. Less than a foot space per person is unacceptable even if for only a few minutes.

I was so excited when I saw that there was an ALDI opening up closer to me. AlDI is my go to store because they normally have everything that I am looking for. This store was no exception. They have a really large selection of items and everything seemed really fresh. What I didnt enjoy about my trip today was the cashier Kelly. No sense of customer service at all As I stood in line and watch as an older lady in front of me struggled to make her way through the check out. My friend finally decided to help her as she was struggling to back her bag and hold on to her oxygen tank at the same time. When it was our turn she just started tossing everything into the cart. She scanned my bread and started to toss things right into it. I said something after the bread, to which she said sorry. However, continued to toss the items. Some items are accepted, but not produce, eggs. I get home and notice that my cucumber is split because she tossed it in the basket. Kelly needs some serious help when it comes to customer service.

Only 1 check-out lane open, with a line to the back of the store. No thank you.

I can see why Aldi has a following. You can save money by shopping there. It's as simple as that. Unfortunately, that savings comes at a price (ironic, right?). For instance, with only a few exceptions, all the products are either their own brand or knock-offs of name brand products. That's not necessarily a bad thing. If their house brand cereal tastes the same as Kellogg's, but is $2 cheaper, why not? The thing is, after trying a number of their house brand products, I can say that you can taste the difference, and it's not for the better. You also don't get options for other brands. They pretty much carry only one brand of every product. None of this really merits a 1 star rating though. What does is the poor store management. In fairness, the Livingston location is the only Aldi I've been in, so maybe other stores are better, but the Livingston store is so badly managed that I won't be returning, ever. There are no employees to help you with anything. On this occasion I couldn't even get a shopping cart because, you need to insert a quarter to unlock a cart from its chained security system. I didn't have a quarter (or any change), and I had no idea this was necessary before visiting the store, just to get a shopping cart. There are also no baskets. I thought I'd ask a cashier for some change, which I couldn't believe I had to do just so I could shop there, but I discovered there was only 1 cashier working to handle the entire supermarket. I took a picture of the line. I noticed people abandoning full shopping carts and walking out rather than wait on a line that stretched to the back of the store. I didn't have a full cart (or any cart), but I left too. Whatever savings you might get at Aldi just isn't worth the experience of shopping at Aldi.

BLOOMFIELD Aldi - this is what Livingston SHOULD look like.

And the produce is lovely -- prices for organic are cheaper than "regular" at shoprite or other stores.

Lucky Farmers Market is a non-descript bodega perched in a four deep mini-mall on Bloomfield Ave. in Verona (co-occupied by Subway and double Krauszers). Sounds awesome, right? Actually, it is. Inside is where you actually get lucky.* Fresh fruit and vegetables in droves for way less than your not-so-supermarket. From gargantuan Asian pears to three kinds of cucumbers to berries of all kinds, Lucky will not let you down on the fruit and vegetable end. This is not a full market so don't get all, "That dude said this place had everything," because they don't have everything. They just have good produce, a smattering of market items (good, healthy options) and THIS IS WHERE YOU MUST PAY ATTENTION - a full-time sushi chef that churns out the best sushi around, restaurant or not. Yes, a small bodega will give you excellent sushi in a plastic container and you won't have to overpay for it. If you take anything from this, just get the Tuna/Salmon sandwich sushi and thank me later. Lucky is my go-to spot for the items I rely on - fruit, vegetables and sushi. I do the bulk of my shopping at a regular, large and fat market, but I get all my fruit and vegetables here and I get dinner here 2x a week, every week. Everyone who runs this place and works here is super friendly and a pleasure to see every day. In a pinch, you can get flowers here which actually last a while too. What else is there to say? If you don't ever have a reason to go to Lucky Farmers Market, no one will care (not even your Mom), but if you do have a chance to swing by with fruits, vegetables, sushi or something interesting in mind you just might have found your spot. ____________________ *Well, you might not get lucky if you are thinking something other than groceries or sushi, but I get Lucky almost every day.

But this little farmers market is not really much to speak of. The one farm that seemed to have fresh produce had awful tasting pastries and very little produce to speak of for outrageous prices. The food trucks were nothing special. They were exceptionally overpriced. This area is slowly getting gentrified but you still have pockets of people who can barely afford to buy their normal groceries, yet the town thinks its ok to have food trucks selling $16 lobster rolls that are barely 4-5 inches long...The seller at the truck said I was the only person to buy one the entire day...I found nothing to showcase the neighborhood...nothing Caribbean. Nothing Creole. Nothing with pulled pork, no ceviche, no conch fritters. There was only one woman who had juices present and some baked goods for a decent price. The music aspect is the best part but is only for the last half hour. The rest of the booths were random institutions or banks that had nearly as much business of being at a fresh/farmers market event as you'd imagine. Meh, I'll just stick to the events in the city that make more sense. It supposedly occurs on Tuesdays throughout the Summer.
