I understand that the store thinks that timing their cashiers is efficient but to the customer it is the worst experience ever. I put bags in the cart for them to make it easier. They just throw the items in the cart. I understand that the prices are low but the expeience was beyond awful. I will spend my $200 somewhere else. Never again will you find me in Aldi and I will be sure to let others know my experience. I also asked the cashier's name and she wouldn't give it to me. This store is great! It's kinda no frills: bring your own bags (or you can buy theirs), bring a quarter to unlock the shopping carts, some boxes cut out and placed on the shelves as is. But the store is clean, the aisles are organized (once you figure out the plan). Big fresh meat selection, and their baby back ribs are so meaty and thick (and cheap!)! And the produce is lovely -- prices for organic are cheaper than "regular" at shoprite or other stores. Big Gluten Free selection and their breads are tasty. Love love love. read more

Am I missing something here? I walked in strictly out of curiousity. I used to do a quick shop for last minute items at Fresh Market so was curious what this place has to offer. First thing was a shopping cart you pay for. Bizarre. Don't care if it's 25 cents or 25 dollars. Bags are not provided. It's buy your own. More bizarre. After perusing the store, I couldn't understand the appeal, the offerings, the layout. It all felt weird. Went to Aldi Livingston for the first time since the start of lockdown and was greeted by the manager, who said he was very happy to see me back after so long. I continued my shopping then when I arrived at the checkouts I was presented with a bunch of flowers and a massive welcome back from both manager and staff. I was overcome with emotion and would just like to say thank you to all the employees for making me feel so special. The staff at the Livingston store are always very lovely and helpful and always smile and are happy to help me whenever I come to the store, couldn't ask for better service. So everyone in Livingston is ragging on Aldi but I'm a fan. I mean, look, it's not Shoprite and it's not Whole Foods and even though Trader Joe's supposedly owns it, it's not a Trader Joe's either. And people just need to get over that. Aldi's is a great go-to for quick, essential grocery items. While the brands they have are random and ones I've never heard of, to me, it's the same as if I brought a generic store brand. They've got some great produce, albeit limited in the vegetable department. Grapes, clementines, strawberries, blueberries, pineapple and bananas all at prices that are comparable or lower than the farmer's market (and frankly fresher) or any local supermarket. Breads are key to get here - they have a bunch of varieties ranging from like 99 cents to $3; and yogurts are a steal at 65 cents a piece for greek varieties. They have a huge selection of cheese to choose from, including brie, parmesan, and the like. The meat here isn't very appealing to me, but I've never bought it so I can't speak to its taste or quality. Baking products are super cheap too - sugar, spices, flour, etc. Aldi does carry some brand name products like Honey Nut Cheerios, Hellman's Mayonnaise and Kerrygold Cheese, as well as random products and gifts like blankets, toys, and seasonal items. Yes, you have to bring your own bags and use a quarter to get a cart so that you bring it back, but once you get accustomed to these "new" ways of shopping, you just roll with it. The employees could be a little friendlier, especially for a new store. For me, this is a great alternative to the farmer's market, which is hit or miss for me and for larger supermarkets when I just need a few items that aren't too specific or name brand. read more

What a bunch of whiners the concept of the quarters for the carts is so they aren't all over the lot damaging cars and also so they don't have to have someone out there grabbing carts , wahhh no deli no bakery well go down the road to sorrentos then , second it's a budget store geared towards people who are on a tighter budget on snacks and necessities deal with it , the same items you walk out with would cost you triple at ShopRite , I do agree I would stay away from the meats , I'm not a fan of the pre packaged variety. read more

25 cents for a wagon is silly because you can go to shop rite, kings or target and fill your cart! I don't care if it's refundable but who carries change these days? The selection was not limited to food but included bathroom rugs and sewing machines. Not opening until 9:00am? I do my shopping between 7 and 8 am. The fresh market although limited was much better. read more

Great place to shop but have to be very cautious when purchasing certain items. I've gone home on numerous occasion with expired expiration dates. This is the only Aldi's (Livingston location) that I've been to that I have experienced this problem. read more

Great addition to the community!well priced produce, snacks and healthy breads.... plus other healthy very reasonably priced dairy products.

Each time I go to Aldi, I hear a different iteration of the spoiled "ugly American" whine : "I can't believe you have to pay for a paper bag." or "How dare they make you put a quarter in for a cart. I'm never coming back!" To that I say, please honor your words, because that will make the shopping experience that much more pleasant for the rest of us. The prices on most (but not all) items are considerably less than one would find at other local supermarkets. There's usually at least one "steal" among the specials on items that they only carry for the week. I appreciate the German made items, e.g. chocolates, jams that I can't find elsewhere. The fact that this location is so much larger than others, with great parking makes it convenient as well. read more

Can get inexpensive yet surprisingly healthy items here! This is our stop now for cut mangoes, natural peanut butter, etc.

Aldi is a German based grocery store. They carry their own brands which are comparable to the products you are familiar with and much more.reasonable. it is eco.friendly and doesn't give bags so bring your own or purchase one there for 7 cents. Advertises items and doesn't carry it. Draws you into the store under false pretenses. Example December 12 ad showed ribeye roast $5.99 pound. After 2 trips to store found they were not getting roast in. Call to Batavia Illinois headquarters produced no satisfaction. I complained to Consumer Affairs. Consider this false advertising. I personally like this store a lot and am happy to have it nearby. I agree that they are often understocked in terms of produce and meat, and would love to see an improvement in that area soon. However, if you are like me and typically shop at more than one store each week, Aldi is a great place to start. I make Aldi my first stop and get what I can there for great prices, and fill in the rest at Trader Joe's and/or Shoprite. I have no problem bringing my own bags or using a quarter for the cart, and I LOVE that there is no music - it makes for a very pleasant shopping experience. The store is clean and spacious. I have had nothing but pleasant experiences with the employees, who were happy to give me change for $1 on the one occasion I didn't have a quarter with me for a cart. For anyone who has not shopped here before, Aldi has a Live GF line for gluten-free products and Earth Grown line for vegan products, both with a great selection and VERY competitive prices. Their Simply Nature line is also fantastic for those of us who prefer organic - I have gotten many products from this line including dairy, eggs, greens, snacks, oils, peanut butter, etc. and have not been disappointed yet, and the prices are significantly below other comparable organic brands. And while I am not vegan (or even vegetarian), I also really like the Earth Grown line for veggie burgers, etc. Another tip - Aldi has knockoff Girl Scout cookies (Thin Mints, Samoas, and Tagalongs) for 95 cents. I have shopped at another aldi store for the last 2 years. The Livingston store is closer to my home. Yeah! Ok the carts, the reason for the quarter is .... they don't have to hire someone to collect carts and they don't have to replace damaged carts, or replace carts that have found new homes. And no plastic bags to pollute our ocA money saver! And I personally welcome any idea that keep carts from being left in parking lots. You have to pick up individual bananas, oh dear how trivial can you get. No meat deli, no bakery, no fish counter ,NO. This store is for those counting their pennies. There are many grocery stores that could fit your needs , you have the option to shop where you want to shop and afford all those brand names you need. Our MONEY goes farther at Aldi. One note to company executives, stop sending out flyers, I know not all stores receive the items on sale , and if they do they may be sold out immediately and do not get another shipment, you are giving yourself a bad name by not making this very clear!. The one thing I do agree with others, good customer interactions should also be a top priority, that is not the case in your stores.
